U know what pisses me off the most about butch/femme discourse? Is that the conversation is almost always taken over by white people. If u study black/brown lgbt history u would know that in the ballroom scene gay/bi black and brown men have been using butch and femme for fucking decades and bi women were using the terms right along side lesbians. To act like butch/femme were lesbian only terms pisses me off because u r completely ignoring black/brown lgbt history. Watching white lesbians/bi women come after black and brown bi women and gay/bi men for using these terms literally makes me what to scream “Shut the fuck up colonizer!”. And honest to god what is it going to do if a bi women uses these term?? Like what is it honestly gonna do? And I swear to god if someone responds to this with “but it’s gonna make men think lesbians are available to them!!” I’m gonna lose my fucking mind. Men think that about every women no matter what sexuality u are. A women can walk around with a shirt saying “I love women ❤️❤️❤️” and a man will still approach her. Also please for the love of god shut up about stag/doe and “make up your own terms” crap because a lot of bi woc have made it very clear as to why they don’t want to compare themselves to fucking animals. And to be blunt I think if bi women were a monolith and did make up r own terms that we all mutually agreed on I think people would still have something to critique about it because a lot y’all hate the fuck outta bi women but just do it in a low-key way. To act like bi women don’t have complicated relationships with gender or how they present themselves let’s me know that most of y’all think of bi women as white and feminine. Leave bi women the fuck alone and instead having meltdown because some bi girl somewhere decided to call herself a butch why don’t y’all go out and help bi women women who r trapped in abusive relationships or do something about the high rates of alcohol abuse among bi teens/adults.
