Please feel free to skip this lengthy bit that doesn't really relate to the story but I just want to give you some context for my mindset while writing this. In light of massive fandoms hitting the public eye in the wake of shows like Heated Rivalry and Bridgerton I have seen a lot (meaning the algorithm has served me a lot) of click bait, rage bait, discourse-y articles about the nature of fandom, the sexualization of gay men, and the women in fandom who are to blame. And I think it's fair to discuss all of that, I think at the core of fandom (as in the core of all things) there is something rotten, but man it was just so many bad faith takes. Like, thanks for saying all of fandom sucks, good luck on your Substack's SEO. So much it was just slyly misogynistic and homophobic. I'm so over the way fandoms are 'straight women fetishizing gay men' like yup. all of us. every single person in fandom.

Anyway fandom is a beautiful thing to me. It's our community. I wanted to write a love letter to that version of fandom. I'm just writing it in between the lines of gay fanfic 🤷
