Got a new shirt and socks from Banana Republic! I’m loving how fitted the shirt is and I’m always on the lookout for whimsical socks. The shoes and belt are from Nordstrom Rack. Pants are linen from Old Navy.

Feeling so Friday that I wanted to have some fun with colors. Today I am wearing a sailboat short sleeve shirt and green oxford pants from J. Crew (both from the Factory store, I believe). My shoes are Pumas, size 6 ½. Wearing my Original Penguin blue belt today as well. Not pictured: a blue heather cardigan from Banana Republic that has been keeping me warm in my super cold edit suite.

It's been a while! Today I'm wearing a shirt from J Crew factory, chinos from Gap, and a stretch belt from Penguin (purchased at Nordstrom Rack). My shoes are Women's New Balance 990s. Super comfortable and they're gender-neutral in terms of look. As an update: I got top surgery recently, so this blog will mostly focus on my fashion choices from here on out, though I still have plenty of tips up my sleeve for masculine folks who have to deal with large chests and small feet! I'm also happy to help with binder recommendations and there may be an old binder giveaway coming soon depending on if my old binders fit my friend. Stay tuned!

I went to my cousin’s wedding last summer and wore this suit. Not the best picture, but there weren’t too many great pics of me actually at the wedding. The suit is the Saint Harridan Lyon in Charcoal and the shirt is a quasi-custom Parker shirt with French cuffs. Très swank!

I cannot recommend the Lyon suit or the Parker shirt more. I was comfortable, confident, and got all the compliments. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up (There’s your 80′s film reference for the week).

This picture was for my sister (so pardon the goofy grin) and she commented on how I look ready for my run for Senate. I agree, though I think I’ll need an American flag pin before I start in on any of those types of shenanigans!

Last summer, my girlfriend and I took a trip to West Virginia with our friends. Her car broke down, so we were stuck for an extra two or three days at a motel right next to a small runway (highly recommend: tiny planes!). Since we were without a car, we had to find our entertainment on the surrounding roads. One evening - even though it was threatening rain - we took our chances to step out for a photo shoot.

Shooting when it’s overcast is best, but the sun broke through just as I took off my camera bag. Oh well, a little sunlight never hurt anyone. Except for me, cause I’m a pasty-white assistant editor who works in a basement.

Here’s another outfit from last summer. This Penguin shirt was okay until I gained some weight and now it is sitting in my pile of things to give to charity (haven’t decided which yet, anyone with a good LGBTQ-inclusive charity, hit me up). I have learned my lesson: no more slim-fit shirts for this tiny butch!

Tie - Penguin, June '14. This particular tie is no longer for sale, but I recommend their goods highly. Great quality!

Belt - The usual.

Pants - Banana Republic, Fall '13 (Emerson Vintage Straight Chino, Rich Ginger)

Shoes - Sperry Topsiders (Bluefish 2-eye Boat Shoe in Tan)

Watch - Seiko 5 SNK807. Not a terrible watch, but mine does gain a couple minutes a month and my day of the week/date mechanism is a bit screwy. You get what you pay for, I suppose! That said, it is self-winding and fits my tiny wrist. I must also mention that my dad has owned a Seiko for over a decade that he loves and never takes off, so it may just be a fluke. I think I’ll try out a Timex next time, or maybe spring for one of Seiko’s higher-quality lines.

I got a haircut! Nicole over at Barber of Hell's Bottom does a great job every time and the shampoos/head rubs are a great way for me to get into my zen place.

Pattern appreciation post. Shirt - Brooks Brothers, Summer ‘14. Picked this up at Nordstrom Rack. Mine on 18th and L doesn’t carry Brooks Brothers anymore, but you can always go to the Brooks Brothers stores or order online. This shirt is so soft and holds up very well in the wash.

Tie - The sad fact is that I cannot find this tie as of this writing, so I cannot relay the brand. I did, however, take the time to show off a half Windsor and a four in hand knot to show you the difference it can make with a collar. The four-in-hand looks better here, I think, though this tie does make a handsome half-Windsor knot.

I’d love to hear what you prefer as your day-to-day tie knot! Any full Windsor butches out there?

Glasses - Ray-Ban

Shirt - Brooks Brothers 346. This shirt was only available in their factory stores, but you really can’t go wrong with Brooks Brothers in general. Though I did buy a belt there once that hasn’t held up so well, but that’s an exception, for sure.

Pants - Gap. You can’t really see these, but they’re a pair of chinos. Great product for the price. These now belong to a lovely man who bought them up at a yard sale I had in May. Godspeed, beautiful, stripy chinos! May your new owner love you as much as I did.

Socks - Ben Sherman. These fit my feet very nicely and I haven’t had much trouble with the heel riding up my ankle. Sometimes they fall down, but I think that has more to do with the size of my left calf and my not pulling them up after I’ve gone to the bathroom. Was that TMI? You’re welcome.

Shoes - Converse, Chuck Taylor All Star. I didn’t really need to link to that, did I? Didn’t think so.

Rediscovering the Water

Another outfit from a couple of weeks ago. I took my suit to get altered, so I decided to wear the shirt and shoes I would be wearing with it for the fitting. French cuffs look silly without a jacket imho, so I decided to pair it up with my blue blazer and my new cufflinks!

Hair - American Crew

Shirt - Saint Harridan. This is a custom shirt that I got fitted for in the winter. It fluffs out of these pants a bit, but looks great with a higher-waisted style. I like that everything fits in my neck, arms, and chest. I'm certainly proud to wear this shirt. I custom-picked the fabric, but the classic light blue on their site looks similar enough.

Blazer - Brooks Brothers (Thrift store. Best guess: Three-Button Sack 1818 Blazer). This blazer was an excellent find. The sleeves aren't too long and it fits around the shoulders and chest. Plus: it's light enough for the summer months, even in DC!

Cufflinks - I got these wheat penny cufflinks from Manny Zeevi, who shows his wares all over the area and even sells them through Brooks Brothers. Luckily, when you see him at Eastern Market, the price is not nearly as high as it is if you buy through Brooks Brothers, so that's a plus. If you can catch him there, I recommend you stop in and take a look. His work is not cheap, but they make wonderful gifts and I love wearing a piece of history as second-generation coin collector.

Belt - The Usual

Pants - Gap, Fall '13 (Tailored Straight Khakis Grey Stripe). They don't seem to have this color grey anymore, but I do recommend the style of pant. They're comfortable, but dressy.

Socks - Gap, Winter ‘11.

Shoes - Bostonian, Spring ‘14 (Andover in Burgundy). Wearing these to the wedding I'm attending at the end of the month and I'm super excited about it. I'll be wearing them with a grey suit, so this gives you an idea of the look.

Here's one of my backlogged outfits from a couple of weeks ago. I decided to change my photo editing process to make the colors a little brighter. As a video editor in my professional life, I hate to post bland photos. The shirt is light blue with rectangular mini checks, so the tie photo is a little truer to life.

This outfit is also notable because I found a pair of men's shoes that fit me! Read on:

Hair - The usual American Crew Forming Cream

Shirt - Kirkland (spread collar). I can't remember the year on this, but it was probably 2012. This is the softest of my Costco Kirkland shirts. They have some of the best shirts for the price, and they fit really well even if you have a larger chest.

Tie - Personality for Linea Pitti, I got this secondhand at Eastern Market during the winter months. It's a beautiful tie and all silk, though I'm sad to read reviews that say the shop (Linea Pitti is local to DC) has an issue with female customers. I may have to check it out in the future and report back.

Belt - My everyday mystery belt.

Pants - Gap, Spring ‘13 (Slim Twill Pant in Dark Cranberry) I like how these look with the light blue shirt. As you can tell, I went with a two-toned look.

Socks - Happy Socks, Winter '14 (Big Dot Navy and White). I bought the size 9-11 sock, which fits my smaller feet pretty well. They divide their site into women and men, but the only difference is size. Whether your feet are big or small, the styles are all at your disposal. I like how colorful they are, though I have had some issues with getting the socks to stay up around my calves.

Shoes - Bostonian, Spring ‘14 (Andover in Burgundy). I cannot explain how happy I am the these fit. They are a size 6, which was not easy to track down in a reasonable price range, and they manage to feel just right on my size 7.5-8 women's feet. I especially like how these shoes don't make my feet look small and lady-like. They make me want to stomp around like I own the place. They're patent leather, so they aren't particularly soft, but they certainly do the job of making me feel dapper.
