For the fourth session of TIP // Theory in Practice we will be discussing Rebel Bodies via Silvia Federici’s text “Caliban & The Witch” and artist Beth Collar’s video work “Bring Forth the Sap of a Dark Age”.

From viewing both of these works, we will discuss accumulative labour  and capital, maligned bodies, and demonic/alchemical/outsider practices.

For the third session of TIP Theory in practice we will engage with the "Black Atlantis", a live recorded audio-visual exploration by Ayesha Hameed of the possible futures of the Black Atlantic in the wake of the mediterreanean refugee crisis, the legacy of slavery, and the numerous manifestations of Afrofuturism.

Bio: Ayesha Hameed’s work explores contemporary borders and migration, critical race theory, Walter Benjamin, and visual cultures of the Black Atlantic.  Her work has been performed or exhibited at ICA London (2015), Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin (2014), at The Chimurenga Library at the Showroom, London (2015), Oxford Programme for the Future of Cities, Oxford (2015), Edinburgh College of Art (2015), Kunstraum Niederoesterreich Vienna (2015), Pavillion, Leeds in 2015 and at Homeworks Space Program, Beirut in 2016.

For the second session of the Platform Arts reading group "TIP // Theory in Practice" we shall be looking to Laboria Cuboniks "Xenofeminism", a turbulent development in contemporary theory that builds universal networks across gender, race, and economic standings to realise new worlds and emancipation via alienation.

Bio: Laboria Cuboniks is a collective of currently six women artists that work across a variety of media. Xenofeminism is a collaborative project that takes a texhnomaterialist approach, as Helen Hester explains, "Xenofeminists debate over how existing technologies could be re-purposed to be more useful to society and – over all – not be used as a tool of gender discrimination.”

For the first introductory session of T I P we shall be reading Simon O’Sullivan’s essay “Art Practice as Fictioning (or Myth Science)”. In this essay, O’Sullivan advocates the speculative potency of artistic practices, where bodies, matter, and identities gain autonomy from “the-world-as-it-is” and diverts dominant coding.

Bio:   Simon O’Sullivan is a theorist and artist working at the intersection of contemporary art practice, performance and continental philosophy. He has published two monographs with Palgrave Macmillan, Art Encounters Deleuze and Guattari: Thought Beyond Representation (2005) and On the Production of Subjectivity: Five Diagrams of the Finite-Infinite Relation (2012), and is the editor, with Stephen Zepke, of both Deleuze, Guattari and the Production of the New (Continuum, 2008) and Deleuze and Contemporary Art (Edinburgh University Press, 2010). His collaborative art practice – with David Burrows and others – comes under the name Plastique Fantastique, a ‘performance fiction’ that involves an investigation into aesthetics, subjectivity, the sacred, popular culture and politics produced through, performance, film and sound work, comics, text, installations and assemblages. Plastique Fantastique have performed and exhibited widely in the UK and abroad and are represented by IMT Gallery in London. O’Sullivan is currently working on a collaborative volume of writings, with Burrows, on Mythopoesis–Myth-Science–Mythotechnesis: Fictioning and the Posthuman in Contemporary Art.
