Ok I know I’ve been dead for like a month and what I’m about to say might make no sense but I lowk need to yap about my theory about the book is bsd bc it’s plaguing my brain
Ok I guess Imma just jump into it
I don’t think the book is in Yokohama. I think the order of the clock tower had the book. The reason I think so is bc the book has already been used before the DOA acquires the page: Sigma. We know the book was found and used four years before the DOA uses it, we don’t know who either. We just know Fyodor is the one to go collect Sigma meaning he either wrote Sigma into the book or was sent by the person that did. Which also begs the question of what they did with the book after. They either A. Lost it somehow (which is unlikely) B. Hid it for some reason or C. Still have it
Also another thing, we’re never told how the DOA gets the page of the book, if the DOA knows where the book is (which is how they got the page) why not take the entire book? Why just a page? Them having the page in the first place means that at least ONE person in the DOA knows where the book is and was able to make an excuse for why they didn’t bring the whole book. The only person that is smart enough to figure out where it is and smart enough to manipulate Fukuchi into being happy with just a page is Fyodor. Fyodor must know exactly where the book is.
Now why I think that HE doesn’t have it but the ootct does. This scene:
Admittedly, this is a fan translation but I think it’s still really important, not enough people talk about this scene. For reference, this is right after Francis realizes the PM are not coming with Atsushi for the transaction. We see in the anime that he is talking to someone on the phone but not who, in the manga we do. He was talking to Agatha Christie. This basically tells us that the ootct is working with the Guild. And then right after that, Agatha tells that everything is going how THEY planned and that Fyodor can basically do whatever he wants now. Meaning that the ootct is not only working with the Guild but Fyodor as well which is incredibly suspicious.
This is what I think is happening: the ootct told the Guild the book was in Yokohama and that Atsushi was important, Fyodor told the ootct that which is how they know. Clearly Fyodor knows Atsushi is important, we see that in DEAD APPLE when he tells Shibusawa the same thing. He needs “the bookmark” to complete whatever plan he has. I think that the ootct captured Fyodor at some point (bc he’s a stinky little rat) and Fyodor told them about the bookmark and where it was. I think the book WAS in Yokohama so they retrieved it from there and wrote Sigma into it. Then their next goal was to get Atsushi. But the ootct didn’t want to just go into a foreign country and kidnap someone bc that would be bad for their country. Up to this point, everything we’ve heard and seen about the ootct has been good (or morally grey at worst) with us being told in several light novels and flashbacks that the ootct protect the queen of England and are essentially the highest branch of the military there. They’re government agents tasked with protecting the country. We also however see they’re a bit grey as well, in DEAD APPLE Agatha sends a user with an incineration ability to wipe out Yokohama before the fog spreads to the rest of the world. This is definitely morally grey considering she’s willing to wipe out an entire city but at the same time she’s trying to save all the other countries. It’s what she says after that gets me “Such a shame, the smell of a burning country would’ve gone well with my tea” WHICH LIKE

Wild thing to say considering we’re talking about millions of lives. But anyway, all that to say is that they at least project an image to the public that they are this holy force but do seem to have some questionable notions. Because they want to keep up appearances, going into a foreign country and kidnapping someone would not only look bad on their image and their country as a whole but would also likely get in trouble with the Japanese government. To avoid that, they sent an organization that “technically doesn’t even exist” to do the job for them: The Guild. They manipulated Francis into going to Yokohama to get the book by using his daughter as a motivator and told him to also get Atsushi. Obviously that didn’t happen and the plan failed (or maybe that was part of the plan idk, it’s Fyodor) and that’s why the whole DOA arc happened. I think Fyodor was likely going to take the book from the ootct after this whole thing (you know if he didn’t DIE, ha, loser) and use it for himself. To what end? That’s where you’ve lost me. Fyodor’s motives are very vague and foggy, we don’t actually know (as far as I can remember) why he does anything that he does. Whether it’s to rewrite the world to his wish or something I got no clue. I hope his motives actually get explored in part 2 (Sigma might find them while inside his head) but until then, I don’t know what the goal of all this would’ve been. I think the point of the DOA arc was to back Atsushi into a corner and force him to come with Fyodor. But when Atsushi didn’t do that, Fyodor gave up trying to kidnap him and figured he could complete whatever goal he had without Atsushi.
Anyway, that was a long yap and I probably missed some stuff but I promise if you think about it, it makes sense 😭

(Pretty sure April Fools is more of an American ‘holiday’ but let me have fun XD)
“DAZAI!” Kunikida shouted so loudly that Yosano poked her head out of her office on her rolling chair. Kunikida spotted her and stormed over, “Where is that bandaged freak?!” Yosano looked down at his hand and had to swallow down a laugh, both his notebook and his pen were glued to his fingers.
“He got you too?” She asked with as straight of a face as she could manage.
“Oh no, what’d he do to you?” He asked.
“You wanna see?” She rolled back and pushed the door open.
“What the hell?” He exclaimed when he saw the inside of the room. All of Yosano’s knives, scalpels, syringes, and bottles had been taped to the ceiling.
“I’ve been trying to get them off,” She said, gesturing to a pile of assorted items on her desk, "But they’re stuck up there good.”
“Has he gotten everybody?” Kunikida asked cautiously.
“I think so, he somehow managed to print and replace all of Atsushi’s paperwork in German, all of Kyouka’s draws were filled with fake rats, All the screws from Kenji’s chair were taken out so it fell apart when he sat on it, Junichirou’s computer was playing California Girls for twenty minutes before he finally figured out how to turn it off, he hid all of Ranpo’s candy around the office, of course, it didn’t take long for him to find it, and he even hid a recorder in the President’s office that randomly played cat noises.”
Kunikida sat listening to all this with his mouth hung open.
“That little— where is he?!” He exclaimed, whipping around.
“That’s the thing, he’s done all of this but no one has seen him all morning.” Yosano replied.
“What?!” He asked, exasperated. She simply shrugged.
“He is a terrifying man.” She said.
“The one day I come in late because I had actual things to do this morning.”
“Just so happens the one day you decided to show up late was April Fools. If I were him, I wouldn’t come to work today.” She added with a murmur.
“It doesn’t matter if he comes in today or two weeks from now, I’m going to strangle him!”
Chuuya finished brewing his coffee in one of the Port Mafia break rooms. He mixed in a pinch of sugar with a spoon and took a sip of the steaming drink. As soon as the taste hit his mouth, his face twisted and he nearly spit out the drink, swallowing it like it physically hurt him.
“What the fuck?!” He exclaimed, coughing.
“Chuuya?” Higuchi called from where she was sitting, “What happened?”
“Why does it taste like that?! It’s fucking sour!” He explained, squinting at his cup.
“Sour?” She questioned.
“Yeah, like someone put limes in it or something!” He opened the pot of boiling water, it looked and smelt normal.
“Mine tastes fine,” She said with a raised brow. Chuuya picked up the bag of coffee beans and examined that too,
“What—? Someone put fucking lime juice in the coffe beans!” He announced.
“What? Why? You’re the only one who uses those beans.” She pointed out.
“I don’t—” He paused, seeing the corner of a piece of paper inside the bag. He pulled in out and read the neat handwriting on it:
‘April Fools, Slug ;)’
“Why that little— DAZAI!” He shouted, crumbling the note in his hand.
