“If it isn’t Thanos’ lapdog,” Loki said, unkindly. Of all the people he’d expected to run into again here, Gamora hadn’t been on the list. “A pleasure to see you again — have you lost your collar, at last?”
He frowned, taking a deep breath. This complicated things, of course. It was difficult enough as it stood to put the past behind him, without other agents of Thanos in the picture to drudge up unpleasant memories: namely, of a certain Chitauri invasion.
— of course, there was no point getting into that now. Moreover, it gave him a double-edged sword: the possibility of contact with Thanos, himself. It made a shudder run up his spine, the fingers twitching at his sides eager to tug at the threads of seidr winding around him like a protective cloak.
He looked over impassively, meeting fierce eyes. “So you’re trapped here as well, then? Didn’t expect to see you on Earth.”
Gamora had been enjoying a peaceful stroll around the city; making note of which buildings had moved and taking count of the recently arrived inhabitants by their looks of confusion and sometimes fear. Standard taking it day-by-day coping.
Naturally, the universe had to ruin that for her-- Gamora had memorized the faces and names of Thanos' allies ( the identities she had been privy too ). Made a nice little list ( 'who-to-kill' ) for the future and the way he addressed her only enticed Gamora to bite.
"Loki, so sweet.. Thanos had me helping someone of your.. caliber, I helped kill him, and now I'm trying something new. It's a work in progress." Gamora smiles with her teeth, wide and threatening, as if she would have any other reaction when meeting someone from her past.
"Before you even ask, no, there's no way out and I'm not letting you out of my sight; we should take this somewhere private."
“New thread on Reddit claims that each of the stripes on the Guardians’ legs in prison represents a crime. This IS true, The color of each stripe is a category (murder, arson, burglary, grievous bodily harm). The pattern of each stripe explains a bit more exactly about the crime and its severity (a sort of criminal law morse code).
However, it also claims the gray line on Rocket is indecent exposure, and this is NOT true.
The line designs were the product of our costume designer Alexandra Byrne’s creative brain, and I wrote down and gave her the list of convictions.(…) It’s also important to note that these are just crimes they’ve been convicted for - not crimes they’ve committed and gotten away with, which is probably a lot.
Rocket’s are mercenary activity, grievous bodily harm, arson (he blows up a lot of stuff), escape from prison, and, I believe, public drunkenness. Quill’s crimes are penny-ante robbery, grift, criminal conspiracy (from his gang involvement with the Ravagers), and having sex with members of a royal family (consensual but on some planets considered an outrageous crime for someone from his caste). Gamora keeps things simple with her long list of murders and assassinations, all at the behest of Thanos. And Drax’s crimes are grievous bodily harm, murder, and every variety of destroying stuff you can imagine.” - James Gunn

“This is not how I wanted to visit Terra–” Gamora says in lieu of a proper greeting; of the hug she wants to give him, followed by the slap for worrying her, even though she knows he’s completely capable of looking after himself. “..or I guess, Fake-Terra-with-additions like it’s some sort of demented theme park… or better yet, a zoo.” She knows Peter’s silhouette like it’s painted on the back of her eyelids–
“You promised me what exactly– a long walk on the beach, fireworks.. milkshakes.” Gamora keeps her tone light, as if she hasn’t spent hours looking for the right words to tell him when ( if ) she saw him again. “–Nothing about a madman with killer robots for pets. This is feeling awfully like a job.”
Peter may jump head-first into the first signs of trouble, but Gamora is definitely following close behind him.
“It’s only missing Rocket complaining about our pay, Drax and Groot fighting over something inane and the other two somehow managing to break something nearly unbreakable.”
“Ah, well ..” It takes Peter a good second to fully register who it was who addressed him–and all he can do is nod dumbly and laugh aloud when he does. There’s a face he thought he’d never see again–a voice he’d never hear. Quill’s features soften into something fond–relieved, almost, as he crosses the distance between them; he leaves his I missed you unspoken and smiles warmly at her instead.
“This wasn’t how I envisioned you visiting it either.” A sobering pause–and Peter reaches to brush the tips of his fingers against the backs of her hands just to be sure she’s real. “There was less evil conqueror, and more–I don’t know. Dancing?” And milkshakes, and fireworks, and beaches, like she said. And romance. Definitely romance. But Peter decides this is fine, too. They’re together, and both in one piece. That’s all that matters.
He makes a mental note to thank Stark for organizing this gathering.
“Maybe we could still do all those things. It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve dealt with killer robots–” Peter means to suggest it as a joke, but he’s being totally serious. “..After we’ve found the rest of our crew, I mean. And devised a way to get out of here.” He wished that last part was optional.
It's easy to slide her hands into his-- easier than confessing how much she missed him, but Gamora hoped it conveyed her message anyway. "We'll make it work. It fits us.. and the guardians. Besides, demolishing robots can be a nice.. what did you call it? ‘bonding experience’?"
They were stronger together, them and the rest of the guardians for sure, but there was something about existing in the same space together that softened her. As if all the light that Peter exuded made her a better person by proxy.
"Did you get into any trouble?" She could feel an eyebrow raising at the mental image of Peter not causing trouble for once. Gamora didn't mention the trouble she got into ( minor things okay, no murder ) and she's not offering up that information first, because Peter will give her that look.
“More importantly, do I have to kill anyone?”
A Poem for 2018
Sooner or later I’m going to run up against the thing that will kill me.
But it’s not today, and it’s not you, motherfucker.
I can’t fake it, I’ll just make it on my own ( on my own ) I can’t blame them, I’ll just maim them on my throne ( on my throne )
ironvitals:
should know by now curiosity doesn’t suit the man —— tony’s inquisitive nature and demand for solutions don’t necessarily benefit the people around him ( or himself ) , despite well - meaning intentions .
hands rest by his side , casual show of comfort and ease despite the threat that comes from the stranger . green skin — alien , probably ( another one of quill’s friends , perhaps ? ) and a dangerous look that convinces him she wouldn’t hesitate to follow through her words .
❛ you mean out MY window ? tell me — is being rude to the people that host you a thing you do ? ❜
“--I hear idiots bounce." Gamora bites back, half jealous of him being able to keep something in the ‘upheaval’ even if it's just a building. Which is fuel for her anger and it feels great to have someone to direct it at again.
"Do you even have a contingency plan for when we get caught? ..and that's a when, not an if, unless you're on the other side."
If that were the case, Gamora knew exactly where to stick the pointy end of her sword, and she hopes the glare she sends him conveys that.
"Terrans," she mutters, gesturing to all of him as if it would get her message across. "--are you all like this?"
rockctman:
There is something fundamentally wrong with ‘this universe’ if Peter Quill isn’t having a good time at a party. Even if the term ‘party’ is used loosely. Sure, there are drinks–he’s helped himself to a fair share of them already–and there are some fine folks here he would have loved to chat up—-But not tonight.
Tonight Quill has slipped away from the heart of the gathering and taken to roaming the halls, listening to music blaring through his earbuds while he gets himself lost in a maze of corridors. It’s clear Peter doesn’t know this building, and in his tipsy haze he decides he doesn’t care enough to remember the way back to the others; there’s an unbidden sense of adventure that comes with wandering in unfamiliar territory, anyway–and Star-Lord lives for that feeling.
Or–at least–until he gets caught.
The feeling of eyes on him is what makes him stop; a prompt for him to remove one earbud and feign surprise. Like he wasn’t just about to intentionally walk into (what he assumed was) a restricted area–
“—-This isn’t the way to the bathroom, is it?”

BIG MISTAKE. a wave of regret crashes through, taking steps back in an instant. if his hands weren’t occupied searching for WARMTH in the pockets of his jacket, they would be raised up, easily. no need to succumb to that however, a small grin sufficed. he had a HABIT of making rounds during any social event, assuring guests are greeted warmly. though it’s not EXACTLY his duty to do such, the habit’s been established for quite some time. it even gives an opportunity to build connections too. a large part of him wants to confess he didn’t simply stumble upon the area, but had planned beforehand to say hello. the REACTION he’d received wasn’t exactly what he expected, he learned to place it in a POSITIVE LIGHT nevertheless. ❛ should i come back at another time ? ❜ the question leaves his lips, amidst glancing back and forth in case someone else DECIDES to join them. truthfully, steve means no harm, ignoring guests leaves an awful taste in his tongue. a pause. ❛ or… maybe never. ❜
"No-- I.. uh.. It's fine. Did you want me to move?"
It's his soft eyes that have Gamora pausing, reminding her of another and it leaves her feeling homesick. There's something about these Terran boys that leave her staring a little too long.
"Sorry, I'm a little.. twitchy."
She turns to face him fully with her eyes never leaving his ( out of caution and to let him know she's taking this seriously ), and attempts to school her grimace into an apologetic smile. It's only with a lifetime of practice that she manages to slouch in faux-comfort. As if accepting open invitations is something she does regularly without any concern to her own well-being.
"--being kidnapped will do that to you. It's.. nice knowing I'm not the only one out of place but is a large gathering really the best idea? Plus alcohol and idiots are never a good combination on any day--"
Gamora trails off, realizing she's outpaced him in the conversation, that her loneliness is making her vulnerable. "--I'll move."
I know we’ve all got our problems and it’s a blessing that we made it here so far
Rag'n'Bone Man - As You Are
She wasn't the only one in hiding out in the shadows, away from most of the crowd, but she did attempt to smile politely at anyone who caught her eye. None of the food or drink were to her fancy so she ended up leaving her arms crossed against her chest to alleviate the need to keep her hand on her sword.
Gamora had taken up a post by a window-- some sort of Terran Tech' that allowed them to see out but kept the roving drones from seeing in. Handy. She wanted to be the first one to know when things went sour, and the window would make a great escape route when the time came to leave.
Hyper-aware of someone moving into her personal space, she bristled, "If you come any closer, I'm throwing you out that window."
i’ve been heckin’ busy lately sleeping in-- just like this for a starter and i’ll think of something for when I wake up tomorrow.

Erik sits there stiffly–hunched over the bar with a half-empty tumbler in hand.
Somewhere in the middle of his memory is a gap. A space he was painfully aware of where there was nothing but light crashing in on him like a hammer; a light so great and primordial his consciousness had no chance of survival. –He thought he was dying.
After he woke and wandered his way in here–it took him a time to realize with growing unease that this place and time wasn’t death, and the whiskey he’s currently nursing is his unfortunate way of coping with that–
“—-What are you staring at?”
Gamora had ducked into the first open door she saw the moment it started to rain. Of course, it's rains while she's out of contact range with the Milano and as much as she wants to fiddle around with her ‘Rocket-Grade’ communicator, it doesn't work so well when it's being drowned.
What she finds inside is an empty bar and it's lone patron and feels a grimace starting to form on her face. She had been hoping to find it empty, but Gamora can 'do' polite-casual-- if it'll keep her out of the rain and out of trouble.
Gamora forces the tension out of her shoulders by rolling them, bring her hands up to show she's not openly carrying a weapon as she leans up against the bar. "..Well. I'm hoping you're not going to try to kill me."
--or blunt honesty.
"I'm looking for answers, I want to know what's going on." She continues, "...and I might as well ask everyone I meet before they have the chance to run off. Plus, it's raining, and I don't have a change of clothes on me."

─ ★ ─ the dome l o o m e d overhead and encapsulated the entire area; yet from within, it seemed to be expanding with the addition of new cities, new countries at every turn. exhaustion had called her to a numbing embrace and katya found herself rising from much need rest in another place entirely, trading the b i t i n g cold of siberia for humid, smoke-filled streets of god-knows-where. instinct saw body roused from sleepy haze, feet hastening in tandem to the steady rise of her pulse. it had hardly been a year since the cryostatis chambers had been cracked open to eradicate the line of winter soldiers for good yet she already longed for the return of an induced c o m a t o s e state ( it was either impenetrable slumber or a bullet through the skull ) to relieve her of an earth she no longer understood ─ a pause was given to destructive thoughts, the prickling upon the back of her neck familiar in it’s silent threat.
fingers reached for the concealed weapon; the s t i n g of the blade piercing through the plump flesh of her thumb made her smile. “is there something i can help you with, друг?”
Peter had told her about Terra ( she did listen when he was intoxicated even though she had told him otherwise ). What it looked like, the food, the people, whatever would prompt Peter into oversharing about his childhood.
That meant as soon as she spotted something that resembled the Terra of Peter's memories, she went to explore. The sentiment driving her to connect.
Gamora had stolen what she assumed was food and had taken a full bag of them after the initial taste test. The bright red of its skin was soft to the touch and went easily down with every bite she took--
"I'm guessing you've also been taken--"
Gamora meant to snoop and felt very unapologetic about it, she was beginning to recognize the look of a lost person. The distance between them kept her on guard but as Peter liked to remind her ( nag, snark, whine ), making friends ( allies ) meant not trying to kill them at first glance.
"--want one?" she offered one as a sign of peace.

KURT was lying on his back , hanging upside down with a book dangling in front of his face by way of TAIL. he was mumbling verses under his breath in german when the door creaked open , frightening him into teleporation. with a BAMF! he disappeared , book clattering on the floor , as he reappeared directly behind the intruder , “ you should not sneak up on me. “ it had hardly been sneaking really , but he was EMBARRASSED by his reaction and if his skin wasn’t such a dark shade of blue a blush may have been NOTICEABLE.
Gamora had taken refuge in the nearest habitable-looking building, unwilling to track down the rest of her friends ( if she kept an ear out for explosions she'd probably find them easily ). It was getting dark and she was nowhere near done with her investigation, having learned absolutely nothing new.
The new plan was to find somewhere to sleep and something to eat. She hoped whoever lived here would be amenable to having company. She wasn't spoiling for a fight, it was part of the whole ‘turning over a new leaf’ thing.
She kept the hood of her sweater pulled up; she had learned early on that her skin color had drawn unwanted attention, and until she could go back to the Milano and get one of the cloaking devices, she was stuck hiding in the shadows.
It was the light spilling out from underneath one of the closed rooms that drew her closer, and she should have knocked, normal people knock first.
She let the door swing open but before she could even take a step inside the room, she heard someone behind her.
Instincts prompted her to go for her sword as she whipped her head around; keep the enemy within your sights.
“--Sorry. New to town.”
