dancing with our hands tied // taylor swift
— CHRONOPOLIS, or whatever these people were calling it, was big, Valkyrie would give it that. Or, big for a cage, anyway. That’s what this is, isn’t it? They’re trapped here — like rats. Valkyrie let out a deep sigh, turning a corner as she headed towards the bar which had quickly become one of her favourite places in this wretched dome. She spots a head of dark hair, walking along the opposite side of the street, and has to stop herself from laughing. Of course he’s here. “Hey — Lackey!” She calls out before she can stop herself, casually crossing the street towards him.
@xmischief
—– A FAMILIAR VOICE calling out from a rather derelict bar across the street startles Loki out of his thoughts. With confident strides, the Asgardian crosses the road, barely sparing the sparse traffic a second glance. Loki’s not sure how to feel, but he’ll count it as a plus if it means he’s found another ally in the confusing bustle of Chronopolis.
“Valkyrie — a pleasure,” Loki replies. Drones zip by overhead, the grey sky made only darker by the strange refraction of light through the ever-present panes making up the dome. He takes another look at the cheap dive across the street, unimpressed. “Lovely weather, isn’t it? Not quite where I’d prefer to settle down, but it seems like you’ve certainly made yourself at home.”
IRONVITALS:
can’t help the twitch of unease in the out of his stomach, sight of loki bringing back new york in breathless flashes. glad he’s in the suit, alloys able to protect him from the scepter’s influence since he no longer has the arc reactor to shield him.
immediately suspicious of the god’s pleading, scoffing within his mask. “poor terms?” he echoes, hiding slight discomfort with teasing snark. “you defenestrated me.”
“congratulations, you saved your home world. it doesn’t make you a good guy.” and tony knows the truth in that. saving the world– saving people can’t begin to compensate the lives that have been taken by his weapons; weapons he has designed, weapons that stane had distributed because tony had too much faith – had been too naive.
“thor? haven’t seen your brother in a while.” two years, in fact. but he’s not counting. tony definitely doesn’t miss his friends. “doesn’t have a phone.”
—– “YOU SURVIVED,” Loki remarks, with a small raise of his eyebrows. “And you look great — well, the suit does, at least.” He shrugs, hands raising in a noncommittal gesture, palms open and empty. Loki doubts Stark has it in him to open fire.
“And, well, I never claimed to be good, exactly.” He can’t help the purse of his lips, the way his eyes drop to the ground. But that’s what they want me to be, he thinks, with a hint of bitterness. The Tesseract lies safely in his pocket dimension, echoes of Thanos’ words still lingering in his mind, a quiet horror. Can’t say I did what I did for good, either.
It makes sense that Thor hasn’t been on Midgard — he’d been battling his way across the Nine Realms, last he’d heard, before Thor had come to Asgard and unmasked him. And yet, he’s surprised at his brother’s lack of contact with his band of ragtag vigilantes, though Loki supposes that’s none of his business.
“I want to get out of this dome. You want to get out of this dome. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, no?” As if to punctuate his point, a swooping surveillance drone zips by them, entirely too close for comfort. “Maybe we should take this inside.”
‘ i’ll be right here. don’t worry. ’
soft angst starters
—– GREEN EYES dart away, fixing themselves on the ground as a comforting hand comes down on his shoulder. Loki keeps his face neutral, conflicting emotions rising hot in his chest.
“Reassuring,” he murmurs, dry, but it’s not entirely a lie, he thinks, as the quiet whir of Stark’s machinery hums in the background, electricity in the air a soft buzz against Loki’s senses.
He purses his lips and closes his eyes, allowing himself the weakness, and his fatigue follows him swiftly into sleep.

—– “TRUST ME,” he mutters, a flash of green in his hands dulling to reveal twin blades. “They’re open.”
A flash of steel from behind her catches Loki’s eye, and with a sharp gesture, a blast of energy launches from his fingers to throw the would-be assailant back into the air. For all her martial prowess, Loki takes satisfaction in the fact that he, at least, has one card up his sleeve.
“Watch your back,” he replies, with a smirk, already turning to his next target, launching a gleaming blade with a swift sweep of his arm.
‘ don’t talk. save your strength. ’

—– HE SNARLS and struggles against his restraints, a wild thing until the end.
“Easy for you to say,” Loki hisses, through his teeth.
His chest is heaving with the effort it takes to keep breathing through the pain, fingers aching and twisted, still twitching towards the fragments of energy he feels making it through the walls, starved of magic after days of being trapped in that stone prison. He pitches his voice low, trying not to let his fear and despair make it into his words. Thanos has control of the Tesseract, and by now, likely Midgard as well, but —
“Thor,” he grits out, “Asgardia. The colony: are they safe?”

XSIGYN:
Sigyn gasped slightly when his appearance changed, despite knowing who he was from the moment she laid eyes on him. Her heart was thundering, despite convincing herself for years that she didn’t care. His disappearance didn’t bother her — so nor should his reappearance.
She looked him up and down — not much had changed, from the last time she saw him. Though somehow he was different, older, perhaps? Though she guessed she, too, had aged in the past few years.
“It certainly has.” She said, trying to keep her voice level. He was difficult to read, always had been. What Sigyn once would have given to be able to see what was going on inside his head — now, though, she wasn’t sure she really wanted to know.
—– HE’S NOT SURE what she wants from him. It’s been — what? Years? Has it been that long? Time had passed differently in Thanos’ realm, and even more so on Sakaar. In any case: it hadn’t been as if he’d kept count.
She is the same as he remembers: hair shining like woven gold, even in the dull light, the strength in her eyes and in her body hinting that she is more than mortal, Asgardian blood shining through an unassuming exterior.
“You didn’t know that I had returned,” he says, quietly. “Which means that you weren’t there, during Ragnarok.” His stare grows appraising, emotionality retreating firmly behind the defense of shuttered eyes. “Where did you go?”
THUNDERCOUS:
Thor had come barrelling around the corner, not really paying attention, nor caring about his own direction. He had started walking, weaving down alley and street until they had all blurred into one. Another corner. Another crosswalk. He had barrelled into the other person before realising. Thor jerked to the side, circling the person until he facing the way he came and staring right at them. Eyes, the colour of a summer sky, flashed with confusion first. Soon, it was replaced by a swirling mix of horror and utter surprise. His mouth dropped then closed, gulping down a fast breath. The person before him did not look like his brother, but the curve of his lips, deep set of his eyes and ropey form told a different story. It was Loki. He knew in his very bones that it was Loki. Thor couldn’t talk for a moment, his tongue seemed heavy in his mouth. The pair stood across from one another, looking more blood related than they ever had. “Loki..” his name was a rush, a surprising prayer that he had missed saying. He urged to reach out, but Thor kept his arms tight by his sides. “What…you’re here?” Thor sounded surprised when he knew he shouldn’t be.
—– THOR. It shouldn’t come as a surprise — after all, where ever Loki finds trouble, he finds his brother.
They seem inexorably, unavoidably intertwined, Loki thinks, with a hint of resentment. His lips quirk at the sides, eyes lighting with surprise and hesitant acknowledgement as he drops the glamour. He can’t stand it, looking so much like Thor, not when he’s standing across from him.
“Well, yes, as you can see,” Loki replies, gesturing with a hand to himself. “After all, we did come on the same ship — semantics, I know, but you’d think that after destroying our childhood home together, we’d have a little more familiarity with each other, no?”
He shakes his head, amusement rising to replace the instinctual bitterness. It’s been days since Loki’s seen him, the chaos of whatever magic had distorted their world throwing him headfirst into deciphering Chronopolis’ sudden origin — and his sudden captivity.
“Thor,” he says, finally, the name familiar on his tongue. “I never thought the day would come when I’d say this, but — it’s good to see you.”

SPYDER-BITE:
⁅🕷⁆HER BROWS FURROWED IN DISPLEASURE AND IRRITATION. ❝ Pardon me, ❞ she mutters with a hint of sarcasm. The lanky man takes up nearly half the sidewalk with his jaunty walk. She hears the sound of drones getting closer and sighs. They are like sharks smelling blood in the water. She isn’t about to feed them. She takes a few measured breaths to calm herself. This man isn’t worth the trouble she tells herself. A drone flutters close by her head. ❝ Oh, buzz off! ❞ she sighs as she swats away at the drone. ❝ There’s nothing to see here. ❞ She watches the drone hover off toward the distance before taking a moment to observe the man in front of her. There is something strangely familiar about him, but that is a common feeling to have in Chronopolis. ❝ Have we met before? ❞ she asks.
—– THE BLACK WIDOW, Loki remembers, with a hint of amusement at her alias. And they call me dramatic. Her stance fakes the air of relaxation, even as he can see the tension in her shoulders, the rehearsed alertness of a soldier drilled into each muscle. He considers revealing himself, before the rest of his short-lived stint as Earth’s ruler makes itself painfully familiar in his mind.
Barton, he recalls, with a faint wince. Best to tread lightly, with this one. He turns, feigning a double take, Midgardian accent thick on his tongue as he holds up two hands in front of him in an apologetic gesture. The glamour cinches itself tighter around him, cementing the illusion to human eyes.
“Sorry, sorry. I doubt I would forget a face like yours — wait, hold up, aren’t you an Avenger?” He steps closer, eyes wide and pleading, as he sends a silent thanks to SHIELD's publicity.
“I’ve been out of a place to live ever since waking up to this mess,” he mutters, looking up at her and meeting her eyes. “I don’t s’pose you know somewhere I could hole up, at least until this blows over?” The manipulation is as familiar as it is grounding, calming: the one thing that he can rely on, even now, magic or not.
TITANDAUGHTER:
Gamora had been enjoying a peaceful stroll around the city; making note of which buildings had moved and taking count of the recently arrived inhabitants by their looks of confusion and sometimes fear. Standard taking it day-by-day coping.
Naturally, the universe had to ruin that for her– Gamora had memorized the faces and names of Thanos’ allies ( the identities she had been privy too ). Made a nice little list ( ’who-to-kill’ ) for the future and the way he addressed her only enticed Gamora to bite.
“Loki, so sweet.. Thanos had me helping someone of your.. caliber, I helped kill him, and now I’m trying something new. It’s a work in progress.” Gamora smiles with her teeth, wide and threatening, as if she would have any other reaction when meeting someone from her past.
“Before you even ask, no, there’s no way out and I’m not letting you out of my sight; we should take this somewhere private.”
—– HER THREATS fall on idle ears, and he looks over lazily, unimpressed, even as his body tenses for a fight, magic already winding invisible threads around his arms. But there’s no rush: only Gamora’s dangerous smile and the promise of information. He weighs his options, silently. A real charmer, isn’t she?
THANOS. The name brings a familiar shiver to Loki’s spine, awareness of his limited time ever the more clear, even as the Tesseract spins safely tucked away in his conjured pocket dimension. Memories, still fresh and healing, blur to the surface, and he swallows them down — there will be time, he tells himself, when all of this is over. If I survive it.
“I didn’t ask,” he said, with a sly, easy grin, falling into pace beside her. “A lovely idea. How are the in-laws?”
the end of the fucking world (2017)
XSIGYN:
Was it really him? Sigyn suddenly found herself unsure. His appearance was a little off, the help of the glamour, she guessed, but the eyes, she would never forget those eyes. The eyes she once loved, the eyes she would’ve once done anything for, even if their owner felt vastly differently about her.
Seeing him here stirred up an anger inside of her. She remembered the feeling, the loss, after he fell from the bifrost. After he ‘died’. It was still fresh, despite Sigyn convincing herself to move on. In doing so, she would only later find out, she’d broken the sacred bond of fidelity. He wasn’t dead. He never was, and here he was, standing in front of her, feigning the accent of a Midgardian.
“Drop the act.” She said, more softly than she’d intended. She meant to be firm, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. “You know who I am.”
—– HESITANCE. It gives him pause, swallowing down his misgivings: if he concentrates, he can almost smell the fields of Asgard, arnica and wheat sweet on the wind. The urge to RUN grows ever stronger, seidr a smooth draw over his fingers, waiting. A breath, then two, and then: you owe her this. The remnants of his conscience, maybe. He recoils. I owe her nothing.
Seidr falls in green waves across his face, invisible to anyone untouched by magic. When the ripples clear, he is LOKI again — if only to Sigyn. Long black hair falls in neat waves around a gaunt face, eyes searching, shadowed with mixed emotions. She angers him, in her gentleness. Goddess of fidelity, he thinks, vindictive and contemptuous — dubbed by my dear Father, of course.
“Sigyn,” he says, voice neutral. “It’s been a while.”
