Bechloe Week 2025 - Day 1: Coffee Shop AU
honestly there's nothing like bechloe week for reigniting my muse, I'm going to knock out as many of these as I can, but fair warning we're currently prepping the house for a rewire so there's a pretty high chance I won't get them all done, that doesn't mean we're not going to try tho!!
Beca practically stumbled into her favorite coffee shop one morning, exhausted from having stayed up late working on a demo track for her newest artist. What didn’t help was that what she had was, in her opinion, a steaming pile of shit. It was some really horrible rap, and she’d spent the evening racking her brain about how to create something that anyone could stand to listen to. She ended up adding her own vocals to it, and she hoped that her boss and the artist would like what she’d done.
When it was her turn to order, she practically got whiplash. There was a barista she hadn’t seen before with red hair and the most gorgeous blue eyes she’d ever seen.
Beca grabbed her latte and her breakfast sandwich and sat down. She looked at her latte and saw that the barista had drawn an adorable winking smiley face. It gave her a little boost of happiness. She wondered how someone could possibly be this adorable.
When Beca arrived at work, she saw the rapper “Pimp Lo” waiting in the lobby. She quickly dropped her things in her cubicle and handed the flash drive with the new track to her boss.
They met in a conference room, and Beca smiled as she heard her track over the speakers. Her boss asked who had done the vocals, she shyly replied that she’d done them as a placeholder for when they got a “real” singer. Just as her boss was saying that her vocals were pretty solid and that she’d done an excellent job producing “the shit out of his turdburger,” Pimp Lo spoke up.
“I hate it. I really hate it. I’m the artist, and this is my song. I feel like y’all should play my mix.”
Beca’s boss played his original track, and Pimp Lo began to gyrate, even grabbing his crotch while standing way too close to Beca.
”This is the ‘Bend Over’ the world needs to be listening to.”
Beca stood up. “Yeah, um, it's my job to make you the best little Pimp-Lo that you can be, and-and I want to get behind ‘Bend Over.’ And, as your producer, I would love it if you could trust me.”
“I would love it if you leave my track how it is.”
“I made your song great, man.”
Beca’s boss stepped in, and, unfortunately, sided with Pimp-Lo.
”I think what she means is, your song was always great.”
Beca stood her ground. “No, what I mean is what you gave me was a steaming pile of-”
Beca’s boss cut her off. “Pimp-Lo!”
She continued. “Okay. There's something that you should know. Uh, Beca is on her period.”
Beca was horrified. For one thing, she wasn’t on her period. For another, it wasn’t anyone’s business if she was.
“Wow,” she said in disbelief.
“Oh, it's shark week? Hot damn,” he said.
Beca couldn’t believe what was happening. She’d worked so hard, only to see her boss ready to throw it away for a rapper that she knew damn well wasn’t going anywhere without a lot of help.
Beca’s boss spoke up as she pulled Beca aside. “If you could just excuse us for a second.”
Her boss continued. “What are you doing?”
Beca wasn’t having any of this disrespect. “How can you take his side?”
“Sides? Well, we…Why are we always talking about sides? Okay, it's our job, brah. We're producers. We bring his vision to life.”
That was it. Beca had had enough. “You know what? I quit. I worked my ass off, and you loved my track until that little shit said he hated it. I’m going to go find someone who appreciates my effort. I’m out.”
Beca grabbed her things from her cubicle and walked out.
The next morning, Beca found herself back at the coffee shop. She knew these visits would slowly eat away at her savings while she was unemployed, but she needed caffeine and her roommate had finished the last of the coffee that morning. She knew Amy wasn’t going to replace it anytime soon, so there she was.
She was happy to see the same barista was there. She took a moment to read her name tag and discovered her name was Chloe.
Chloe did latte art again that morning. It was the face of a teddy bear this time, and Beca couldn’t help but think about how it was almost as cute as the barista.
As Beca continued on her search for a new job, she found herself making excuses to go to the coffee shop. Every morning, she got new latte art from Chloe. Her personal favorite was a sleepy bunny face, and there was also an elaborate swan another day.
One morning, Beca stopped for a latte on the way to a job interview. It was for Residual Heat, a competitor of BFD records, where she’d worked before. She’d done an internship in their Atlanta office during her senior year of college, and she’d reached out to Sammy, her boss from the internship, to see if their New York office had any openings.
Chloe smiled. “I see you’re dressed up today. You look nice.”
Today’s latte art was a fancy heart. She looked at her receipt and noticed Chloe had written on it: “Good luck today! Call me!” Below it was a phone number.
Beca found it very hard to concentrate during the interview, but she managed to get her act together. She even played Pimp-Lo’s original track and then her improved version.
Before Beca could explain what had happened at BFD, she found herself shaking hands with the interviewers and accepting a job on the spot.
She called Chloe a few hours after returning home.
”Hi, it’s Beca,” she said. “From the coffee shop.”
”Hey! Good timing. I just got back,” Chloe replied. “How did the interview go?”
”I got the job!”
”That’s great.” There was a pause for a beat.
”Yeah, so, thanks for asking.”
”Right,” said Chloe. “That’s…not why I wanted you to call me.”
”Okay?”
“So…you kinda set off my gaydar. I hope it’s not wrong, and…”
This was the first time Beca had noticed Chloe getting flustered. “It’s not wrong.”
”So, are you single?”
“Yes.”
“Awes! Would you like to go on a date with me?”
“Sure,” said Beca, chuckling. “Awes?”
“I like to shorten words sometimes. I said ‘totes’ all the time in college.”
Just when I thought she couldn’t get more adorable, Beca thought.
“That’s cool. You pick the time and the place.”
”Awes!”
”Yeah, awes.”
Beca smiled to herself. A new job and a date with the most adorable person she’d ever met. This sure was a stellar day!
Honourable mention: Britt said they never thought about Bechloe being more than friends when filming the first movie, but by the second and third, they knew what they were doing lol (yeah, pp3, *cough
