I do believe in the power of story. I believe that stories have an important role to play in the formation of human beings, that they can stimulate, amaze, and inspire their listeners.

This video explores various musical connections within the original soundtrack for Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep. This story carries with it the burden of expanding Nomura’s universe while staying true to traditions established from the previous games. But with the help of Sekito and Ishimoto, Shimomura was able to musically provide interesting resolutions to the on-screen events by making use of motives from previous games to ground her tracks to the foundation of this game’s narrative. Her work explored many new avenues of instrumentation while still adding to her network of storied melodies meaningfully.
