Simba the Lion King

AU SCENE - Start Post for Umi

Simba nodded with a small, approving smile when Umi seemed to grasp the concept so quickly. “The past kings look down on us from those stars.  They watch over us, they guide us.”

"It sounds like lions never rest, in this life or the next." She smiled to him. "It is late, I must return to my forest. You need to be careful out there King Simba." She patted his mane. "Until we meet again, try to be safe, okay?"

No, they didn't he realized, and he nodded.  She spoke then of leaving and he looked toward her. "Thank you, Umi. You are welcome here anytime.  Be safe."

AU SCENE - Start Post for Umi

"As long as spring comes." He nodded his agreement with that statement.  Looking up as Umi referrenced the stars.  He wondered how their brightness kept her awake, but then again the lions slept in the great cavern of Pride Rock.

'Simba, let me tell you something that my father told me …'

Even after the passage of time, Mufasa’s voice was clear and authoritative in Simba’s mind.

'Look at the stars! The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars.'

"My father’s star is my favorite." His brown eyes rose to a bright sky a bit west of the field

'…so whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you… and so will I.'

"Lions become stars?"She followed his gaze and smiled as she thought of it. It was an endearing thought. "Does that mean all your ancestors are gazing down upon you at night?" She glanced back at him.

Simba was a bit lost on her reference to gravity. She had dropped the rock, and therefore it had fallen. But he basically understood what she was saying, though he was beginning to wonder why she seemed so fixated on explaining away the problem of Scar, or Zira.

"Well, Scar is dead. My responsibility in that was to protect this pride and that’s what I did. It wasn’t something I took lightly…. " In fact he had needed more convincing than he cared to admit now.

When she spoke of bright moment, he shrugged. Ears flicked a bit against the dusk air. “I don’t know if everything falls that smoothly. I would like to think so.”

Umi beamed to him, “As long as the Spring comes, there is always room for hope in our hearts. Without hope, we cannot go on.” Her eyes drifted up to the sky. “How can anyone sleep out here with so many stars? They are really pretty! Do you have a favorite?” She felt that the heaviness of conversation was starting to put too much pressure on the feline king. What better way to distract a cat than point out shiny, twinkling stars?

The Sunrise - for young kopa

The rainy season was over, and Simba woke with the warmth of morning drawing into the caverns.  He stretched with a sight roar and walked out to the ledge.  The sun was rising over the Pride Lands.

With the end of the seasonal rains, Simba knew it was time to focus on Kopa’s training.  He took a look around for the cub, seeing if he was anywhere down in the grass or toward the watering hole.

Kopa was sneaking around trying to pounce on a lizard. He lunged and missed ” darn it. I’ll get you.” He went and tried again and pounced but missed and landed in some mud near the waterhole. ” perfect.” He mumbled.

He spotted Kopa down near the water hole and headed that way after descending the rock formation they called Pride Rock.  He paused a bit away, seeing Kopa pouncing after the lizard.  He smiled, remembering when his father had taught him to pounce Zazu.

"Kopa."

'Yes, I challenged him to reclaim this land after he stole it from my father.  I fought him and he nearly won, but I was able to defeat him.  I didn't kill him though, the hyenas did.  The same ones he used to take over and almost destroy this land.  He betrayed them and in the end they killed him.” 

He was giving her the answers as she asked, he wasn’t sure quite what all she wished to know but he was willing to answer her questions.

Her ears folded back and those sapphire orbs drifted off to the side. “I see.” She looked at him directly, “My family taught me before about responsibility for all actions and inactions.” To explain herself she picked up a small rock from the ground, “They taught me that even if you do don’t directly have anything to do with something, it does not take away the responsibility for what has happened before you.” 

With her hand raised, the stone slipped free and fell to the ground. “Technically, I did not make this stone fall. That would be gravity, the force that keeps us from flying too far away. However, it was in my power to catch it if I wanted to. I chose not to. It is partially my responsibility for it hitting the ground. It is this kind of thinking, this type of thought that can drive someone to crave vengeance for someone they love.” 

She reached out and patted his mane. “You are a good lion, King Simba. I am so sorry you have suffered and endured some of life’s darkest moments.” A smile was offered, “That means you will have some of the brightest moments that any lion could have.”

He shrugged when she stated about Zira.  He hadn’t known her before she first turned on him after Scar’s death and he had banished her from the Pridelands.  He could only go on what he knew.

"Because I challenged him and won.  He died in that fight. Technically I didn’t kill him, but Zira blamed me for his death."

Her gaze drifted up to the sky. “Grief for losing the one you loved can be binding and blinding.” She looked back to Simba. “May I ask how exactly he died? Were you challenging him to reclaim this land?” She was trying to follow along, but she felt a little like she was getting bits and pieces of a long story.
