There is so much to this miraculous event and image that volumes have been written about it. She is the patroness of the Unborn and Mexico. She has been declared the Empress of the Americas. It is with this miraculous image that the Aztecs abandoned human sacrifice and turned to the once and for all sacrifice of Christ. It is under this banner the international pro-life movement is empowered and making great strides to defeat the culture of death today. I went with the original image that St. Juan Diego and the bishop first saw on the peasant’s tilma. I surrounded it with roses to imitate Mary when she arranged them on the tilma so that when it opened up a heavenly message gently fell before their eyes. Today I am asking for the powerful intercession of Mary under this title to combat the current corruption in the Church and how it is fueling the culture of death. I am doing a day of reparation. I recently install a security doorbell. I love it. A nice perk it takes pretty pictures. It has long been a common custom to give to Christ the metaphorical title of "King," because of the high degree of perfection whereby he excels all creatures. So he is said to reign "in the hearts of men," both by reason of the keenness of his intellect and the extent of his knowledge, and also because he is very truth, and it is from him that truth must be obediently received by all mankind. He reigns, too, in the wills of men, for in him the human will was perfectly and entirely obedient to the Holy Will of God, and further by his grace and inspiration he so subjects our free-will as to incite us to the most noble endeavors. He is King of hearts, too, by reason of his "charity which exceedeth all knowledge." And his mercy and kindness which draw all men to him, for never has it been known, nor will it ever be, that man be loved so much and so universally as Jesus Christ. But if we ponder this matter more deeply, we cannot but see that the title and the power of King belongs to Christ as man in the strict and proper sense too. Christ the King Double Novena for request & thanksgiving - Day 18 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me. This is the bread which came down from heaven, not such as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live for ever.” —- John 6-53-58 This is from John’s Bread of Life Discourse. Even though Jesus ascended into heaven to take His rightful place at the throne of God, He left us Himself in a tangible way - the Eucharist. It is a personal relationship with Christ. It is the Real Presence of Christ. It is Christ among us. It is the source and summit of our faith. It is food for our souls. We are tangible people. We fill ourselves up with Christ then go out to the world and bring it Christ’s peace. We proclaim His presence and His kingship. In the Eucharist, we behold the man, we behold our king, we behold our God. While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”--- Acts 1:9-11 There are Jesus Christ’s disciples looking upon our Lord as He ascended to His rightful place - the throne in Heaven.  It is the judgement seat.  He is a merciful and just king.  He is a king that sacrificed all for us. The disciples were not blinded but stared in awe.  It is seems they were in a spiritual ecstasy upon seeing Jesus in such glory. From this mountain, they would stay together for nine days and pray.  The Holy Spirit would then come upon them to give them the strength to go out to the world and preach all that Jesus taught them and proclaim all that that they saw.  Jesus Christ is King of All Nations. Christ the King Double Novena for request & thanksgiving - Day 16 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”” --- John 20:19-23 I selected this text because it continues with the Resurrection and includes the role the disciples played in witnessing it. However, “Peace be with you.” keeps jumping out at me. I wonder what that felt like for the disciples.  Three days ago, their rabbi was submitted to a violent and torturous death.  Moreover, there were two earthquakes in the time since. When He rose from the dead, there was an earthquake. They were earth shattering moments in time. The Resurrection is the promise of a life in Christ the King. The Resurrection is the crowning glory of Jesus Christ the King. Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him with pain. When you make his life an offering for sin ...”—-Isaiah 53:9-10 What follows Good Friday is Holy Saturday - Jesus’ body is lying in the tomb. The Via Dolorosa can manifest so much emotion within us. I appreciate and commemorate the solemn Entombment between the Death and the Resurrection. It is a necessary time. Waiting is a necessary experience.
