im so sad the guy making the 6+ language minecraft server sucks so bad because that is a perfect study for a linguistic anthropology person like me but knowing the person running it it will be a mess and people will be bummed with it in like 20 seconds
“ai will be used to translate everything” no!!!!!!!!! that is taking the fun out of it and the learned ways people can communicate across language barriers!!!! stop!!!!!!!!!!!!! ai sucks at translating too you will lose meaning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
not to keep dogging on this but the reason the spanish-english minecraft server is interesting is because most if not all people involved are interested in learning either spanish or english enough to communicate and continue playing on the server. there is a difference between using google translate/only translation dictionaries to find what one word means and trying to insert it into the other language (maybe will correct grammar, maybe incorrect! that’s the beauty of learning a new language) and then just straight up using ai to translate every single thing said. there’s beauty in people learning a new language and speaking that new language with a carried over concepts from their native language. sometimes it is broken, sometimes it is almost perfect, but the nature of language is constantly changing as a means of communication between people, and it’s cool to see difference! and frankly it is also awesome to see people attempt to bridge that gap in ways they can to make other people understand what they are saying :(
Hello my final miners and crafters, here are the final stats from round 5! What a round.
One thing that stands out here is how many more votes Joe Hills and Quackity got later in the round than Mumbo and Etho despite the Mumbo/Etho race being similarly close. My theory is that it's because there's a lot of overlap between Mumbo and Etho fans, so people voting for Mumbo weren't that motivated to try and beat Etho and vice versa. (I know @sapphicselkie and I were torn on that one! They are both very much MCYTblr sexymen.) Both close races did have a noticeable last hour push.
ok dsmpblr can we agree now that wilbur and techno have been knocked out that we all need to rally behind quackity like we never have before. can we agree on that. he has to go the distance for all of us.
