Honestly? My main piece of advice for writing well-rounded characters is to make them a little bit lame. No real living person is 100% cool and suave 100% of the time. Everyone's a little awkward sometimes, or gets too excited about something goofy, or has a silly fear, or laughs about stupid things. Being a bit of a loser is an incurable part of the human condition. Utilize that in your writing.

Of course!

So Melora is Arthur's daughter. By the end of the poem we are informed she's also Guinevere's. So this gal is obviously interested in knightly stuff, so she trains with the other ones; however, unlike the fantasy cliche, she also likes hanging out with her lady friends, cute dresses, sewing... Quite a rounded character

So one day arrives Orlando of Thessaloniki to the court. He's a nice fella, Arthur likes him and so does Melora. She begins dating him, and Arthur is all like "sure! If it makes you happy go for it!". So they're happy

BUT

There's a guy, Mador de la Porte or Mador if Spain, who's the doorkeeper... And wants Melora. So, he bribes Merlin, who imprisons Orlando in an Otherworldly prison in order to make him die of inanition. He can only be freed by a bunch of magic objects: the spear of Longinus (yes, the one from Percy's tales), the oil of the cursed king turned into the boar Tuis (nooooi, not a reference to the one from Culhwch and Olwen, not at aaaaall) and a magic jewel from an Asian princess (not a reference to to the Grail in von Esenbach NOT AT ALL)

So Mador threatens Melora. If she doesn't fuck/marry him, Orlando will be there forever. Melora is scared, has a panic attack but decides the situation can't stay like that, so she pulls a Mulan and names herself the Knight of the Blue Sleeves, and heads to Babylon

So the king of Babylon is scared 'cause the king of Africa has captured his son, Lavender. Melora swears to defeat him. Which she does. It's a one woman standing and yet she conquers AFRICA. The metal gen runs deep in her. She frees Lavender, befriends the king of Africa and reveals herself to the king of Babylon. Literally. She's all like "I'm actually Arthur's daughter". The guy believes her. But just in case, she shows him her breasts.

It's very uncomfortable

So it's decided Lavender is now her squire. He's basically the Kay of her Arthur in the sense that he's a brute. Both get the oil and head to Asia. Where they're captured for stealing the Spear.

BUT

They're freed by a British functionary in Asia, named Uranus. They make a plan and kidnap the king of Asia and his daughter, the one with the jewel. Her name's Verona btw. However, Verona and Melora become friends, she gives her the jewel and Verona and Lavender marry.

AND THEN

Melora frees Orlando after fighting with a hag who guards the magic prison/cave. Then they go to the court, Melora reunites with her parents and then she exposes Mador and Merlin. Arthur is like "MERLIN I'M TIRED OF YOUR BULLSHIT" and exiles him. Same with Mador.

Happy ending: Lavender is knighted, Melora and Orlando marry and they go to Greece
