"Sunbaeᝰ.ᐟ"—A Jaehee AU
📚—Due to the pressure of uncertain future, Jiyeon decided to face the real world and drop off from college. Started working as a barista, where she met the unfamiliar junior, Jaehee, that looks up on her. She never knew that a student like him would see and respect her as a genius senior. All she know is that she sell her books to him on an unacceptable high value.

"Are you sure about this, Ms. Kang?" The dean asked the young lady for the nth time, handling her clearance up. As if Jiyeon did not know what she was doing. Well, in fact, she indeed never knew what she was doing. She pressed her lips together in shame, taking a deep breath before nodding her head. She could almost get neck pain after this.
The dean closed its eyes, resting her temple on her fingers. "Alright, then" sighed as she put down the paper beside her computer, still unable to digest the fact that one of the most anticipated students of Southern University is actually dropping out. "I'm sorry, Mrs. Lee" was the only thing Jiyeon could say. She's been standing in front of the dean for ages that she forgot her made up reasoning just so she could let her go. "How about your scholarship? Hm? You are just gonna let that go?" The dean stormed her with questions she didn't get with answers.
Silence was the only thing that circled around the office. Jiyeon keeps on brushing her arm, praying that the dean will just bite on her pity-looking posture. "Fine, we can figure that out next time" the young lady closes her eyes in relief, right palm resting on her chest. "Thank you, Mrs. Lee" Jiyeon smiled as she bowed her head a little and quickly turned to the door. "So..." The dean spoke as she was about to turn the doorknob, heart racing.
"...what are you going to do now?"
"WHAT—" Jiyeon quickly catches Yunjin's mouth, shutting her off. "You don't have to react like that!" She whispered, calming her friend down beside the bench. Jiyeon rests her back as she shut her eyes, letting the sun kiss through her skin. While Yunjin, still in shock. As if she froze on her spot. "B-but—YOU COULD—" Jiyeon gave her a quick look, opening her right eye. "...you could have told me beforehand" Yunjin sighed, feeling like she was betrayed and left behind in the dungeon by her dear friend.
Jiyeon brushes her hand on Yunjin's shoulder. "I know..." She started, sitting up while admiring the sky as the cloud slowly covered the sun. "...but, I also knew you would stop me if I told you" Jiyeon looked at her, who is now pouting. "But still. We're sophomores now. Last two years of suffering 'til we graduate" Yunjin stated, still trying to convince her to stay. "Two years is still two years, though. We can not just underestimate it just like that"
"Ah Jiyeon"
"Yunjin, I'm doing this for my sake, ok?" Yunjin bit her lower lip, fidgeting the hem of her shirt. "I'm sorry..." Jiyeon smiled in pity, and moved a little closer to Yunjin. "Don't worry, it's not like I'm dying anyways" Jiyeon tried to lighten up the mood a little, which only made Yunjin slap her shoulder. Laughing for a successful bait. "By the way..." Yunjin changes the topic.
"...do your parents already know about this?"
"Of course, not"

How much is Intermediate Accounting 1 practice book market price?
Jiyeon reads in her mind as she typed on her phone. She just finished stacking all of her books since her freshmen year. She could already imagine how much money she would earn just by selling these things. "Oh, that much?" Jiyeon doubted as the internet gave the answer to her question. "This must be a joke. I literally bought this for a double" she cursed as she looked for a different site that would give her a satisfied answer.
"Are you sure you're gonna sell these?" Yunjin asked her, probably the third time. Jiyeon dropped her arms, looked at her with dead eyes. "Of course. How could I move on from this nightmare if I'm not gonna get rid of it?" She hissed as she went to the kitchen, searching for a glass. "I mean, you could've just given this to the library. You know the Accounting section is literally short in books" Yunjin suggested as she flipped through the pages, checking if there was any damage on the paper.
"Ugh, as if they will let me sell it instead of donating" Jiyeon drank her water in one gulped, hearing how the librarian will keep on convincing her inside her head. "Agh, I'm already frustrated just by imagining it" she says irritably as she puts her glass down, walking through the living room again.
"Oh, speaking of which" Yunjin suddenly hunched in surprise, showing her phone screen to Jiyeon. "Looks like you are lucky today" she commented.
Kim Jaehee
LF: Accounting Books
Willing to pay at any price!
Jiyeon’s eyebrows are knitted on each other. "Are you sure this is not a scam?" She asks as she took the phone from her, checking the profile of whoever posted it. "I mean I'm pretty sure it's not. He is a scam if he is not that desperate for books" Yunjin stated in a matter-of-fact tone, as if she knew this person ever since. "Besides knowing you, I don't think you would let that person trick you. You are not the master of our ObliCon class just for nothing" Jiyeon scoffs at her dear friend's praise. "Didn't know you can still call me a master after failing my finals and having to stand for three hours" she contradicted.
"Hey, to be fair, you are still one of the highest. And it's just one lecture, duh" Yunjin defended while Jiyeon is still stalking the unknown guy. "Kim Jaehee, student of National University..." She summarized, narrowing her eyes. "Looks like a smarty pants with great wealth" she nodded, seeing the money rain on her from above. "Hey..." Her fantasies got interrupted. "Don't—"
"Why?" Jiyeon asked in confusion, sarcastically. "It would not be that bad if I would sell it on triple price"
"Jiyeon" Yunjin warned her, but was still frankly frightened for her. "He is rich. And I need his money"

"One large Caramel Machiatto, anything else?" Jiyeon repeated as she tapped the order given by the customer. "That's all," the woman replied with a warm smile. It's been a month now since Jiyeon started her first job as a barista. It was a roller-coaster ride. Every customer has its own personality and attitude to the point it gets on her nerves sometimes. Yet, she chose to stay. Unless she wants her family to completely disown her existence. "Name please?"
"Yunjeong" Jiyeon stopped for a moment before giving the receipt to the customer. Yunjeong...how familiar. "Oh, looks like another school year is about to start" a young man suddenly showed up beside her, patting the towel on his palm. Jiyeon just looked at him before she could doze off again. Right, its enrollment season. No wonder why Yunjin has been a bit busy recently. "Ms. Yunjeong, a professor from Southern University," the young man introduced. "Aren't you a student from there?"
Jiyeon opened her mouth a little, nodding as the bulb finally lit inside her head. "Right, she was my professor from one of my minor classes," she added. "How did you know her, though?" Jiyeon turned her head as she watched the guy refilling some of their pastries. "She used to be a professor in National University—a dean, to be exact" Jiyeon's eyes widened, realizing how amazing this professor was. "Speaking of which, aren't you gonna apply in your university yet? I heard you guys still have exams before you become a sophomore" the man changes the topic as he also switches the tray of croissiant and bon chocolat.
Jiyeon just closes her eyes, resting both of her palms on the counter. "Riku, I'm a drop out, remember?" She irritably reminds him, making the guy bite its lower lip. "I was just hoping you will still consider" he sighed, approaching her to tap her shoulder. "We still have a long way to go" Jiyeon just gave him a look before she turned her focus on the counter.
Before she could even think, a customer came in straight to the counter. As usual, Jiyeon gave her a warm welcome to the stranger, scanning every corner of the person in front of her. What kind of attitude is she going to face again this time? Will this person be the first customer that will pissed her off? A big head? A first timer? Or just an ordinary one? She always hopes for the last.
"One Iced Americano medium, please" the person finally spoke as she tapped their order. "Anything else?" Jiyeon followed up, finally meeting the eyes of the stranger. For some reason, the guy was stunned from his place. As if Jiyeon froze him on the spot, not even wanting to move a finger. "S-sir?"
"Senior?" A what? Jiyeon could not help but knit her brows together. "Sorry, what?" She clarifies, leaning closer to the guy. "Right, you are my senior" the guy pointed out in excitement, as if he finally met the celebrity he has been a fan of. Meanwhile, the young barista was still confused. What does he mean his senior? She hasn't even met this guy before. Worse, she does not know any junior from her university or any younger person.
"Sorry, have we met—"
"Excuse me, could you please be quick. I still have a meeting in twenty minutes" of course, karen will interrupt in a scene. Jiyeon shortly apologized and went back to her work, trying her best not to be distracted by whatever this guy just said, ten in the morning. "Name, please?"
"Jaehee" the guy left with a sweet smile, leaving Jiyeon to rewind everything that happened to her in the past few days. Has she talked to any juniors of hers before dropping out? Surely she made sure not to talk to any freshmen cause for sure she will end up scaring them rather than encouragement. No, not because of their program, but because of the university she used to study in. Days passed by, the Jaehee guy never showed up again. Jiyeon badly wanna ask Yunjin if ever that certain name rings a bell, but it would probably take decades before she could even reply. She just hoped that this Jaehee guy would never show up again. Well, that's what she thought.
"May I take your order please—"
"The usual, sunbae" Jiyeon stopped in the middle of tapping on the screen, slowly raising her head to see a familiar feature. Small yet puppy like eyes, a face like a celebrity. Surely, this guy is a famous student. She took a quick glance at his ID lace—National University. "Pardon?" Jiyeon clarifies. "Ah" the guy responded in disappointment. "I thought you already remembered my order" a scoffed escaped from Jiyeon's mouth, loud enough to be heard by the others. "I'm sorry, sir. But I think you are getting out of the line"
"Sorry?"
"First, you address me as your senior and start acting close with me, when in fact I couldn't even remember if I have actually met you before" Jiyeon dictated, leaving the young boy confused who just wanted to get his Iced Americano. "And now, you are being a so-called regular customer that assumes the cashier already knew what he would order without saying a word. When in fact, it's already been two weeks since you buy whatever drink that is" she added, making sure that every last word of hers to be marked on his mind. "You are not the only customer here, sir. So, if you'd be so kind, just tell me your order and we are done" Jiyeon ended her statement with a smile, a sarcastic yet professional smile. Well, that's what she said.
"Ah—"
"Excuse me," Riku suddenly came up from behind, nudging Jiyeon to step aside. "Let's talk later" he quickly whispered before fully taking the counter over. Jiyeon knew she actually messed up, but she also believed that she just stepped up for herself. She can not just let this creep junior to be so-so friendly and acting so close with her. Minutes passed by, Jiyeon kept herself busy inside the kitchen. She is taking a quick glance from time to time. To her surprise, the guy was still there. He does not even look like he was affected by what just happened earlier.
"He is a regular" Jiyeon almost jumped from her place, holding tightly to the curtains covering the kitchen from the outside. "Can you stop doing that?" she complained, pressing her palm on her chest. "I will if you will also stop doing that" Riku stated, glancing at the guy seated near the window while tapping on his laptop. His cup was half full. "Kim Jaehee, a student from National University. He is a regular here, especially once the classes start to resume again" Riku explained, crossing his arms on his chest. "And I don't like how you treated him earlier, hm?"
Jiyeon groaned in frustration. "Just because he is a regular?"
"Because he's a customer. Now go on and apologize" Riku commanded, as if he was the one who gave birth to her. "No, I won't" Jiyeon firmly refused as she turned her back on him. "Ok" Riku simply accepted her decision.
"Unless you want to be fired"
Before she knew it, Jiyeon was now standing across from him—Jaehee, who was calmly sipping his drink. "Jaehee, this is Jiyeon, our cashier and newly hired barista," Riku introduced. On the other hand, Jiyeon could not maintain eye contact for some reason. She was just looking at his table, fidgeting her fingers. "I sincerely apologize" she finally said it, bowing her head. As she raised her head up, Jaehee seemed so relaxed in his place. He does not even look bothered with her presence nor her apology. "Hmm" he put down his cup, looking straight into her eyes.
"I do not accept apologies in that way, though" Jiyeon's eyes widened as she already thought of all the possibilities that this guy would ask instead. He is a student in National University, she does not think he will ask for money. But what could it be? Be his servant? That is old fashion. Do his homework? Surely he is a genius—.
"Be my tutor" he finally spoke, displaying the same sweet smile earlier. "EHH?!" Jiyeon could not help but exclaim her confusion. She? A tutor? That would not be possible. She is literally drop out from college, and now someone asked to tutor by her? Jiyeon quickly clears her throat. "B-but sir, I'm a college drop out" she tries to explain her side.
"Does that make any difference?"
"Sir—"
"Call me Jaehee. If you want me to accept your apology, then accept this request of mine"
Jiyeon was left hanging, still dozing off while looking through the window. How can he act so calmly after her impulsive crash out? But she would truly choose to pay a price rather than tutoring someone. She can not even teach herself. "Don't worry, it's just Jaehee" and he appears again, as if she just summons him everytime she is deep in thoughts. "He is really just fond of you," Riku continued as Jiyeon watched him, holding tightly to their mop.
"Really..." Jiyeon responded in a low tone. Still not convinced. "How can you be so fond of someone that didn't even know you?"
"You mean being a fan?" Riku giggled as he stood up straight. "Just let him be, and you should show up too" a heavy sigh was the only thing that the young lady could respond, as she turned her back to him. "You should really stop running away, Jiyeon"
She froze. No words even dare to escape from her mouth. Her heartbeat is the only thing that she could hear, not until Riku tapped her shoulder. She swears to herself, she does not know a single thing about this Jaehee. So why is she so bothered about it? It's even crazier for Jaehee, of how relaxed he was. As if he is going on a blind date tomorrow, his usual sweet smile displaying on his face before he goes to bed.
"Oh, you came" Jaehee stood up the moment she saw Jiyeon, who is not a barista for today. They both decided to do their first study session in the cafe she is working at. Of course, it was no biggie for Jaehee since it has always been his to-go whenever he gets tired of the libraries. Besides, it was suffocating to study there sometimes. "You told me to," Jiyeon whispered under her breath as both of them took their seats.
"Ok, where do we start?" Jiyeon immediately asked, trying to escape every chance for a small talk. Jaehee stopped for a moment before he reached for the books inside of his backpack. One by one, he stacked them one by one on their table, slowly. Jiyeon was confused at first, as if he was showcasing these books to her. Not until it hit her. These books are not just ordinary accounting books. They were oddly familiar.
"Here" Jaehee said as he placed the last book on top. "We will start here, sunbae" Jiyeon's eyes widened as she saw the last book. No way, there is definitely no way. "You know, the moment I used these books as my reviewer for our upcoming qualifying exams, it really helped me to understand the concept more" It definitely is. Every page, every sketch, every little note, every highlight, it was hers. Jaehee is no ordinary stranger, he was her—.
"You said I was your savior, but I guess that's the opposite for me" Jiyeon slowly raised her head to see him, who is now smiling. It was mischievous. "Jaehee...you—" the price. The price she named suddenly pops on her head. Is this the reason why he is teasing her to death? Is this revenge? No, she can not just burst her rage. She knows she is at fault here. In her defense, she also needed that money, and he paid with no questions or suspicions.
"Are you—"
"No, I'm not gonna sue you" He assured. "It's not even like I have a plan to" he added, still leaving Jiyeon confused. "But, why?" Jaehee pressed his lips together, looking away. "At first, I was just hoping to see you again. I don't know, but I really wish to. But, now that I actually saw again, I suddenly want to get closer to you" Jaehee explained, finally meeting her eye to eye. Jiyeon could not help but chuckle. "Why would you even want that? I'm a drop out college student—"
"And I do not care about that" He interrupted her again. Guess Jaehee does have a thing in interrupting her. "And you are my senior also, and it really helped me a lot how you explained the concepts here" Jaehee added, patting on the books. Jiyeon looked away, lost of words. She never received such compliments like these. Well, she never even showed this to any of her blockmates, so how would she know? "So, it would really be an honor to have you as my tutor," Jiyeon looked back at him again. Does he actually know what he is doing?
"Please?" And now he used his puppy eyes. Jiyeon didn't even realized how she was captivated by him. How her heart races. She just cleared her throat, grabbed the book and just randomly looked through every page. And there he was, giggling on his own. Maybe he was too, haven't realized the connection he already had with her. It was different from the rest. Something that can not just be simply explained to anyone, not even to themselves. As long as they knew they both existed, now sitting across each other, the world suddenly spins differently.
“By the way,” Jiyeon suddenly spoke. “Drop the senior, I’m literally the same age as you” Jiyeon stated, which made Jaehee widen his eyes.
A few days passed by, they didn't even realize it's already a month since they started these tutor sessions. Until their routine changes, when Jaehee finally decided to drop the bomb.
"Why don't you try again?" Jiyeon stopped stacking the books, looked back to Jaehee. "Jae, I already told you, this is definitely not for me" she reminded him as she went back to cleaning their table. "But the way you explained it, the way you solve these problems, I can see your passion for it" Jiyeon stopped again, sighed. "Then get this passion of mine away from me" she dictated, leaving Jaehee stand in despair. He knows to himself that he was not fascinated by her just because he has always been jealous of people who are good at their major, but he just knows this was for her. And he never wished to have it.
"I can't," Jaehee simply replied. "That was you, and you know this is really not what I wanted". It's only been a month, and miraculously, they already knew a lot about each other. Jiyeon turned her back, just to be surprised by Jaehee who is now standing behind her, closer than usual. In her mind, she knows she has to move. But for some reason, her body decided to stay. "Try it again? Please?"
Before she even knew, Jiyeon was already in the examination room, filled with students. Some were eager to pass, some were already losing their last hope. Some were asleep, some were just there. Jiyeon? She didn't even know why and how she bit on his bait. She really hates his puppy eyes, and she hates how he knows it works on her. Last ten minutes, and Jiyeon is in the middle of regretting this. Well, at least she tried for the last time. She really does believe it was her last chance, who would have thought that the dean did not process her drop out application.
She walked out of the room along with the other students, hoping she would not run over with someone she knows. Too late to wish for that, Yunjin already saw her from a distance. "Jiyeon!" A familiar scream of excitement echoed from the other side of the field. There, a student who seemed not so stressed fresh out from the examination room, waving a red folder. Jiyeon was about to run away, not until Yunjin found its way to catch up on her. Oh, she is indeed doomed.
They decided to chill in the cafe, where Jiyeon used to work. "So the rumors were true! Gosh, why didn't I notice it in the final list?" Yunjin just kept on chatting ever since they went there, as Jiyeon was just silently taking a sip from her tea to calm her down. "As if you ever check the master lists" Jiyeon finally makes a sound, but still staring out of nowhere. Yunjin cleared her throat, putting down her cold matcha frappe. "Hey" Jiyeon barely turned her head.
"Did tita found out?" Yunjin asked, almost a whisper. Jiyeon could notice the worries from her tone. It took a minute for her to respond, just to shook her head. "Then what made you try it again? I mean it's not that I don't want of course but,"Yunjin sighed, interrupting herself. "I might actually get hurt if someone convinced you better than me" she pouted, right palm on her chest. Jiyeon laughed at this sight of her friend. The reason why she is avoiding her, was this. She knew she would act sulky if she found out. "Well, do you still want me to tell you or I will just keep this to myself?" Jiyeon asked in mischievous smile, making Yunjin's pout more visible.
"Jiyeon—"
"Yeonie!" Another familiar voice shouted her name. What wrong timing, she thought. Before she could turn around and give him a sign to go away, Jaehee was already running towards them, holding tightly on his backpack. "I've been looking for you around your campus," Jaehee said, almost running out of breath. Jiyeon was just stunned, glancing at her friend, who is now also frozen on her seat. Right, there is a chance that she could remember him better. Jaehee finally noticed the shift in the atmosphere. He leaned down, a little closer to her ear. "Who is she—"
"Who are you?" Yunjin straight up asked Jaehee, firm in her voice. Their eyes met. Jaehee was about to introduce himself, until Yunjin finally recognized him. "YOU—" she was immediately interrupted by Jiyeon, who was shushing her from across. "No, who—"
"Ah, Jaehee, you seem tired. Please take a seat" Jiyeon decided to break the awkwardness of the two, making him sit beside her. "Jaehee, this is Yunjin, a dear friend of mine" Jiyeon introduced, making Jaehee greet her back with his usual sweet smile. Yunjin, on the other hand, was still confused. "Yunjin, this is Jaehee, my..." Jiyeon stopped for a moment, glancing at Jaehee. He seems unbothered by whatever she is going to address him.
"My—"
"Her boyfriend" Riku, once again, suddenly showed up along with a four bowl of ramen on a tray. Yunjin wasn't able to catch what Riku said, she is more invested in the ramen Riku got. "Since when did you guys have ramen on the menu?" Yunjin giggled as they watched Riku placing every bowl, sitting beside Yunjin. "It's on the house" Riku simply stated, receiving cheer from the rest. "By the way, who is he again?" Yunjin went back to their conversation. Jiyeon thought she already escaped. "He is Jaehee, Jiyeon's boyfriend. Didn't you hear what I just said?" Jiyeon was left dumbfounded, and can not even find a proper word to deny such accusation. It's not that she does not like Jaehee, she was just afraid to make him uncomfortable. But why? Why does she care?
"What?!" Yunjin drops her bowl, which is now half empty. Jiyeon laughed nervously. "Hey, stop joking around will you?" Jiyeon glanced at Jaehee, who was just quietly eating his ramen. "Hey" she softly called, leaning a little closer. "Are you ok?" Jaehee looked at her with a smile. "I think I should be the one to be asking you that" both laughed at their own little world, forgetting the existence of their two dear friends, who are now just silently watching them.
"Told you they were dating," Riku whispered, still chewing his noodles. Yunjin turned her head to him "No way, Jiyeon literally scammed him" Riku just nodded in satisfaction. As if this is the best love story for him. "And he knows, my boy just doesn't know how to make a proper move you know?" Yunjin just laughed at his statement, and can not even believe what she just heard.
Time passed by, the group just waiting for Riku to close the cafe before they went home. "Do you need a ride?" Jaehee simply asked Jiyeon from behind. Jiyeon looked at Yunjin. "Nah, I might stay in Yunjin's place" Jiyeon refuses, which made Yunjin turn her head quickly. "Ah no no! My boyfriend will fetch me up. I'm going home tonight, just to loosen up a little" Yunjin stated, which immediately made Jiyeon think where this is going. "Go on, take her home safely hm?" Yunjin pat Jaehee's shoulder.
It was just a quiet, yet a calm ride home. No one dares to speak, but they know it was also ok. They don't have to force themselves to talk, and that alone is the summary of whatever is going with them. Because even themselves, they can not still figure it out. Well, maybe it's different now with Jaehee. Maybe he was just playing with his mind. Maybe he really does like her.
Jaehee parked his car smoothly, just by the building of Jiyeon's apartment. "Thank you, Jae" Jiyeon unplugged the seatbelt, was about to open the door until Jaehee stopped her. Right, it's their own rule. Jaehee opened the door for her, shielding her head. "You really don't have to do that," Jiyeon commented as Jaehee closed the door. "Why not? It's been our rule now anyway" Jiyeon giggled. "I mean, that thing is only a couple things. We are not even—" Jiyeon stopped, gripping her shoulder bag as she met his eyes. They were different this time. His gaze, something she had never seen before. She cleared her throat to loosen up the sudden tension. "Alright then, I have to go now" she turned her back on him, thinking it was finally the end of the day.
"Jiyeon" she stopped, not wanting to turn around. Jaehee gave himself a thought for a moment before he could finally speak his mind. All the what ifs are storming inside his head. But nothing will happen if he will just let these things stay the way they were. "What if..." He started, his voice was about to crack.
"We date?" He waited. He already prepared himself from the worse, and that is ok. Besides, the first thing they knew is they will just be there for each other. On a random day, in a not so ideal way. But that's how life works. It has its own way to make the soulmates meet each other. And for their case, both were on a verge of confusion and uncertainty in their future. And now, they are here, risking the relationship they had built.
Jiyeon finally took the courage to turned, scoff. "First, you convince me to try it again. And now, you want us to date" here comes her usual dictation, not moving an inch from her place. "Jiyeon"
"Jaehee" softened her voice a little, still enough to be heard by him. "We both know we are in a different phase, right?" Jiyeon bit her lower lip, trying her best to not get too emotional over a small thing. "But that does not matter to me. All I know is I like you. I like you, Jiyeon" Jaehee firmly said, stopping himself from running to her embrace, scared to break such a thing that could shatter anytime. Jiyeon closes her eyes, sighed. "Let us just keep things the way it is now, Jae" she left, heart full of regret. Jiyeon knows to herself she never wanted to let out those words. But for her sake, for their sake, she chose this. She chose to keep this unknown relationship of theirs. That's what she thought.
After that night, everything still goes the same as usual. But she knows something is different, something is not right. She went back to their dorm and passed the exam. Technically, everything went back to the way it used to be. Jiyeon went to the cafe, not as a barista, but to resign from her first ever job. "I really enjoyed working here, I learned a lot," Jiyeon gladly stated, walking beside Riku out of the kitchen. "Good thing you did, but I guess there is one thing you haven't learned from this place" Jiyeon just looked at him confusedly. Riku just smiled at her, glancing by the seat near the window.
Jaehee.
"There is nothing wrong with being true to yourself, Jiyeon. Or else, your regret will just eat you alive one day" Riku stated, as if he knows what is running through their head. She just secretly admires him, sitting there beautifully. She does not know how or where she got the courage, but all she knows now is she is standing in front of him. I missed him, she thought. She was about to run away, but not in Jaehee's phase. He immediately caught her wrist, making both of their worlds stop for a moment. "Stay" was the only word that escaped from his mouth.
Jiyeon sat across from him, fidgeting with her fingers. Jaehee watched her closely, carefully choosing the right word to say. "H-how have you been?" He started. Jiyeon looked up. "Fine, I passed the exam," Jiyeon informed him, humming his response. "Congrats, I passed mine too," Jiyeon nodded as he congratulated him as well. "You know, I never thought I would actually stay in this major," Jiyeon listened closely.
"I was planning to completely drop out and work on my own, but that was just a little difficult for me" how odd, their destiny is almost a mirror on each other. "I don't know if you will believe me, but you are truly one of the reasons why I stayed" Their eyes met, after a long while. Jiyeon finally saw his beautiful eyes again. "And you gave me the courage to try again" words suddenly came out from her mouth. She wasn't thinking, she was just speaking what was on her head. "You made me believe in myself again" Jiyeon took a deep breath. Thinking if this is the right time. But how would she know if she won't give it a shot?
"Jaehee" she called him, he waited. "What if we..."
"...date?" Jiyeon holds tightly on the hem of her sweater, lips pressing together. "I'm not doing this just because I felt bad. I'm not doing that anymore" she suddenly explained. "But, I'm doing this cause I want to be true to myself now"
"I like you, Jaehee. I really do. And It's ok if you don't feel the same anymore"
Jiyeon waited, ready to receive his rejection. Only to hear him giggle. She was again, left dumbfounded. "Yeonie, do you really think I could just move on from you just like that?" Jaehee leaned closer. "I still like you, sunbae" Jiyeon felt her checks heat up, quickly looked down on her lap. "Stop calling me that, really" Jaehee giggled in her annoyed town, pout visible on his view. "What should I call you, then? Baby? My angel?"
"Kim Jaehee!" Jiyeon exclaimed, revealing her now tomato-like face. Jaehee stood up from his seat, still clacking up, sitting beside her. "So, should we do your suggestion?" He teasingly asked. Jiyeon rolled her eyes, turning her head on him. The distance is oddly closer than usual. Jiyeon glanced down on his lips first, going back to his eyes. "It was yours, though. You decide" Jiyeon immediately stood up, hooking her bag on her shoulder as she walked out the cafe, swaying her hips. While Jaehee was left behind, surprised by the sudden change in her behavior. He touches his lips confusingly, there is no way she is about to kiss him. Was she?
Jaehee stood up, made a quick eye contact with Riku who was making his two fingers kiss, which made even Jaehee more embarrassed now than before, running after her now love of his life.
"Gosh, I can not believe I'm still a bridge for two people’s love story" Riku complained, turning around just to be surprised by his co-worker, handling his phone.
Oh Sion

Here you can donate to the families in Gaza. We have collected $3,312 / $20,000. 🙏🙏
The voice of truth for every Palestinian 🇵🇸
An Israeli soldier is seen firing randomly toward civilian homes and displacement tents in Gaza, describing the act as “for entertainment.”
At a time when civilians are being killed daily by stray bullets coming from the eastern areas of the Strip, violence is treated as a game wituhout accountability, and without humanity.
This is not an “isolated incident.”
This is not a “mistake.”
It reflects a reality where civilians are dehumanized and treated as targets.
Documenting these acts is a duty.
Silence is complicity.
After the ceasefire !!
Airstrikes targeting displacement tents in Gaza despite claims of a ceasefire and narratives that the war has “ended.”
For civilians on the ground, there is no post-war reality. There is no safety. Only changing methods of the same violence.
A ceasefire on paper does not stop bombs in the sky.
And declarations of peace mean nothing when tents are still being bombed.
Donations for GAZA!!
This donation campaign is for ANAS family. Not for strangers, not for a cause I'm distant from but for the people who raised me, the people I love, the people I'm terrified of losing.
They are in Gaza, trying to survive something no human being should ever have to endure. Constant bombardment, displacement, hunger, fear, and the feeling that tomorrow is never guaranteed. Every day is about staying alive one more night.
If you choose to help, you are not donating to an abstract crisis. You are helping real people with names, memories, and lives that matter to me more than anything.

This is written in filipino, so please do not translate and repost it without my permission:>. My basis was mostly from my own experience and vibes, personality, and how wishes interact with each other. Anyway, ENJOY READING !

"Let's go out" I said, zoning out while resting my whole body at the monoblock chair. "Right! Where should we go..." Gaeul thought, resting her chin above her hand. "How about the newest cafe I mentioned yesterday? It was just a few blocks from here" Eunchae suggested. She's referring to our campus. It's been a week now since we finished our finals. And I'm telling it for real, I genuinely thought it's the end of life. Well, I lowkey kinda accept it.
"No," I interrupted. Both of them looked at me, confused. I usually just agree to whatever they want to do. But this time, I wanted something different. "Let's go for a drink" I looked up to them, brows were frowning. I get it. I don't usually drink. "You mean at your place, right?"
"No," I firmly answered. "Let's go at the club"
The two almost jumped from their seats. "Are you sure about this, Jaeyi? I mean, the first time we asked you out, you declined it" Eunchae said in the matter of fact. Well, they are not wrong. They've been inviting me to try clubs, but its just really not my cup of tea. The loud music, the clumsy people, and random guys asking for your number. Yeah, no thanks.
I honestly don't know what's on me right now, but I really just want some rebellion. Maybe, it was the academic pressure effect. I've been slacking off with my studies. The others must have been disappointed at me, especially my professors who always have this high hopes for me. And now, I'm just a total failure, too tired to do things I used to be good at. That's how humbling college is. And I hate it.
"Yeah, I'm fine" I said, closed to their ears. As expected, the bar was loud. Music here, music there. But at least it was on fire. We sat near the counter. "Since this is Jaeyi's first time, the payment is on me" Gaeul smiles as Eunchae cheers beside me. I let them decide on what to get for me, since I'm not quite familiar with the beverages here.
Gaeul got me a beer, it smells sweet yet bitter to taste. They were just chatting, I don't even notice if they are talking to me. I just keep on drinking and drinking, just to remove the heavy pain inside my chest. I honestly could just kill myself. And choose to do it slowly.
After a few drinks, my head was already heavy. I rest my temple on my palms. "Hey, are you ok Jae?" Eunchae check up beside me. I just nodded, too tired to speak. I heard her call the bartender for a cup of water. "Here," she insisted. I drank a little and stood up. "Excuse me" I said, looking at the floor. I noticed her small flinching, trying to catch me. But I didn't bother.
I walked through the crowd, everyone was dancing. I need to find a comfort room. While looking for it, a guy from the dance floor catches my attention. His moves were amazing, precise and sharp. Lack of energy, but the groove was there. What a great dancer. A small smile formed on my lips, unconsciously. Later, the crowd gathered again. He is with them. Smiling beautifully, while jumping with the crowd.
And somehow, my body forgot about the restroom. I went to the dance floor, looking for something. I decided to dance with them, just small moves. I miss dancing. I miss the feeling that takes me away from reality, even for a short time. I didn't even notice, I forgot what I was looking for and danced with the music. Hands in the air, hips moving with the rhythm.
Everything was going smoothly, until I bumped on someone. We both turned on each other. It was him. The dancer. I didn't know he was more beautiful up close. Wait? Am I calling a guy beautiful? How odd. I looked at his eyes, hypnotized. I love how his glasses frame those ocean eyes of his. His wet look hair is not even helping. Who is this angel in front of me? Making my heart race for the first time.
"Sorry. Are you ok?" His honey voice asked, worried. I never got a chance to answer him. My left mouth opened, but no words came out. "Ms—" I tiptoe, both of my hands resting on his broad shoulders. I interrupted him with my own lips, pressing on to his. The moment he kissed me back, I almost fell from my place. He quickly grabbed my waist, both of my arms were around his neck. Our faces were so close. I can feel his breath.
I jumped out from him. What's going on? Why am I here at the dance floor? And who is this guy in front of me? Wait—WE KISSED?! The moment I realized what was happening, I quickly ran where Eunchae is, not knowing she's already by the stairs. "Jaeyi! I've been lookin—hey, you ok girl?" She asked, catching me from falling. I regret wearing a dress and heels now. I can not somehow catch my breath. "Hey, are you guys ok?" Gaeul came, holding a glass of mojito.
I just nodded, convincing them that I was fine. But they know me too much, especially Eunchae. So we decided to go home. I was just staring at nowhere again, thinking about what happened earlier. Maybe, it was just in my imagination that I kissed him, right? Right. Maybe it was just the alcohol.
***
"Hey" a guy suddenly appeared in front of me, placing a cup of water on the table. "You've been zoning out" he chuckled. I looked up to him, smiling apologetically. "Sorry, I just don't feel well right now" I said, massaging my temple in a circle motion. "I told you to slow down when drinking, you know your tolerance is not that good" he scolded, sitting across from me.
"I know, I know. I'm sorry, Jaehee" I apologize again while sipping in the cup he gave me. I flinched a little, it was green tea. He giggled, making his eyes disappear "No need to apologize, at least you have fun right?" I almost spit my drink. The face of that guy showed up on my head again. That unreal human. I can not even tell if he's a real person or just my imagination.
I coughed so hard, Jaehee is now kneeling beside me holding a handkerchief. "Hey, are you ok?" He asked worriedly, caressing my back. "Y-yes, I'm fine"
"Did something happened that night—"
"NO!" I stood up, making Jaehee shocked from my action. Gosh, what the heck is wrong with me. I suddenly felt dizzy again, which made me sit back in my seat. Jaehee is still there by my side. "Take it easy, ok? I'm sorry for asking" he apologized, taking a chair from the other table.
"Ohh~" someone suddenly came by, it was Eunchae. That teasing smirk is visible from her lips. "Did I interrupt something?" She said while sitting across, eyes were narrowed. "Eunchae" I gave her a look, while Jaehee was just giggling beside me. "Well, you kinda did," he said as he stood up from his seat. How can this be so casual to him? I really hate this side of him sometimes. But I know I never stood a chance, he already rejected me anyway.
Eunchae looked at him, frowning. "Kidding. Gotta go now, I still have classes by three" he said as he bid his goodbye. "Don't you ever come back here again!" Eunchae shouted and faces me. "Hey," she called. "Don't tell me you still like that guy? He is such a flirt" Eunchae said while side-eye-ing the door where Jaehee just left. As far as I know, I have already moved on from him. But whenever he's with me, I don't have a clear answer to it.
"Gosh, Jaeyi. Forget about Jaehee. Why not go for that guy last night?" my eyes enlarged as he was mentioned again. Why can't these people just stop talking about that. I honestly regret going to the club at this point. I just wanted a drink, and now I ended up having this connection with a stranger. Gosh, this is why I hate clubs. "Stop mentioning it" I said irritably. I went to Mrs. Anna's table while Eunchae was still teasing me from behind. Grinning ear to ear. "So you actually met a guy last night, huh?" She said teasingly, resting her cheeks in her hand. Wait, she didn't know?
"N-no—"
"Who met who last night?" Mrs. Anna came, holding a bunch of books. I quickly stood up from my seat and took the books from her. "Ah, thank you Jaeyi. Just place it by the table" she assisted while I'm doing exactly what she said. Since I'm not doing well in my academics recently, I decided to apply as a Student Assistant here in our university. Glad I got accepted as an assistant here at the campus library. So far, it was pretty helpful. Not only financially, but also mentally. I may not be the biggest bookworm, but I just love looking and arranging different books here.
"Oh, Mrs. Anna! Did you know—" before Eunchae could even spill something, I shut her mouth using my hand. "Excuse us, Ma'am. Eunchae still has classes, right?" I glanced at her, forcing a smile. Hoping she will get what I mean to say right now: leave. She was mumbling something to Mrs. Anna while I guided her outside the library. As I successfully got her out of this place before it could get worse, I saw Mrs. Anna laughing at her table.
I looked at her, head tilted. "So you actually went to the bar, dear?" She clarifies. She was the first person I told that I wanted to go to a bar. "Hmm," I nodded. "I just wanna experience it" I smiled as I sat at my designated space beside her table. She hummed while nodding. "Did you find yourself a fine man?" She asked while smiling sweetly. I sigh. "Mrs. Anna, I don't have time for that" she just laughed at my response. "Whatever you say, kiddo" I just laughed at her statement. I couldn't even remember his face anymore.
"By the way, I heard one time that you're speaking Korean by the phone" Mrs. Anna changed the topic while arranging the papers in front of her. Right, I forgot to inform her that I'm also tutoring foreign languages as another side-line of mine. This is my karma after losing my scholarship, I need to kick my ass here and there. "Are you perhaps fluent in it?" Mrs. Anna added, fingers under her chin. I give this a thought.
"Ah, yes Ma'am. I'm actually doing tutors as my other source of income" I smiled politely, which made her thank Heaven. "What a great timing" she cheered. "Why did you ask, Ma'am?"
She sighed, leaning on her office chair. "My nephew needs a tutor in Korean" she stated. I listen to it carefully. It's been a week now since my last client. "Actually, he refused to have one. But I insisted on getting him one. He's kinda sloppy on it" she giggled as she whispered the last statement to me. So, another knuckleheaded kid? "Don't worry, Mrs. Anna. I also once handled a kid, no worries" I assured her, which made her laugh out loud. Did I say something funny?
"Oh goodness, dear. He is not a kid" I was utterly shocked by her correction. "Oh, I'm so sorry Mrs. Anna" I bowed down, feeling embarrassed by what I just said. "It's fine, dear. To be fair, he really is still a kid" she noted while looking through the window. "So," she held both of my hands. "Will you accept this commission? Don't you worry, I'll pay you"
The moment I heard the magic word, my eyes lit. As if there's a big hope right in front of me. I don't care anymore if this is a kid or just an annoying teenage boy.
"I'm in, Mrs. Anna"
Today is the day I will finally meet my new client. I can already see the pile of money raining above my head. The thought of it just makes me more excited. I ran up to the campus library, carefully twisting the doorknob. "Morning, Mrs. Anna" I greeted with a smile, placing my bag on the table. "Morning, dear. You seem to be in a good mood today, huh?" She noticed, which made me giggle. "It's Mr. Reyes. He moved our deadline for our paper" I reasoned, which made her nod. Seems not satisfied with my answer.
"Oh by the way," I stopped for a moment from piling my notebooks on the table. "He's here" she whispered. My eyes widened in surprise. "Where is he?" I wondered. Mrs. Anna glanced behind me, moving her hands in the air. "Come here!" She yelled. Good thing there's no students that much yet. I slowly turned my head. I can not deny it, but I'm a bit nervous on this one.
I narrowed my eyes a little to see him clearly, walking towards us. He's wearing a knitted cream vest, light blue shirt underneath. Good pair for his khaki pants. I can't see his eyes clearly though, his bangs were almost covering it. The more he came closer, the more visible his height was. Well, maybe to me, he's a bit taller. "Ms. Jaeyi," Mrs. Anna called me as soon as the guy was standing right in front of me. "This is my nephew, Yushi Tokuno," she introduced. The Yushi guy smiled sweetly and bowed his head. How polite of him.
"Yushi, this is your tutor—Jaeyi Park. She's my assistant here in the library, and also a brilliant student here" she followed, which made me flustered a little at her last statement. I shook my head a little. "Nice to meet you" I offered my hand instead, which was accepted by him. "So, you may use that small area over there during your sessions. Don't worry, I've already informed the school president about this" she noted, indicating us the corner of the library. What a privilege to be co-owner of this campus.
"Sure, Mrs. Anna. Thank you so much again" I smiled, holding both of her hands. "No problem, dear. Thanks to you, too"
I lead the way where Mrs, Anna's referring to, which is where Yushi came from. He is just following me from behind, quiet. "So, your name is Yushi, right?" I clarified as we reached our little corner. I was about to take the chair for me, when he suddenly did it for me instead. I was a little flustered, but thankful. "Yes. You can call me that" he confirmed, sitting pretty across from me. "Hmm, what a great name" I whispered, while taking my notebooks from my bag.
"Hmm?"
"Ha?" We both looked at each other without missing a single beat. He heard that?! I SAID THAT OUT LOUD?! "I-I mean—uhm, nothing" I panicked, quickly took a seat. Gosh, what was just that? I heard him laugh, fingers covering his mouth. "Well then, how should I address you? Ms. Park? Ms. Jaeyi?" He then asked me back, giving suggestions how he can call me. Goodness gracious. "Oh, you can just call me by my name, Jaeyi," I clarified, shaking my head.
"Hmm," he hummed, looking down. "Jaeyi," he repeated. I looked at him, head tilted. "You have a beautiful name, Jaeyi" he suddenly said, revealing his sweet smile again that could captivate anyone. How hypnotizing. I blinked twice—no, almost thrice. I looked down for a minute, hiding my face. I could actually feel my face burning. I took a small glance at him, he was smiling shyly. As far as I know, he's a knucklehead, not a flirt.
"S-shall we start now?" I changed the topic while opening my notebook and clicked my pen. He just nodded, lips were pressing on each other. Since it's our first session, we mostly focus on addressing his personal knowledge first so I could easily track where we can start. Then jumped right after to our first topic. "You're a fast learner, Yushi" I complimented him, which is just casual to me as a tutor. He just smiled and glanced at me. I felt how my heart skipped a beat there. What is this unusual atmosphere?
"Ok, that would be our lesson for now" I wrapped up our session. I took my pad again and turned it to him. "So these are my proposed schedule for our study session" I briefly explained, motioning my stylus pen beside it. I saw him leaning closer to the pad. "It's only for a month?" He asked, quite surprised by it. "Yes, it's the longest timeline I could offer for now since I'm also a student" I stated, which made him nodded.
"Why? Are you not satisfied?"
"Ah no. It's not like that" he said, waving his palm. "I think we could go for every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday" he suddenly picked his choice. "You sure? That's thrice a week" I clear up. I saw his schedule earlier, and it was hectic than mine. "Hmm, I'm fine with it. Besides, this is also a benefit for me" he explained. "Well then, that would be our final schedule"
"Uh, Jaeyi" he suddenly called me, which made me stop from standing. "Can I ask you something?" I leaned closer to the table, signifying him to shoot his question. "I'm sorry but, have we met before?" Huh? Before? My brows frowned a little, trying my best to think. "I don't think so?" I answered, still unsure about it. "Oh, I'm sorry. I probably mistook you for someone" I nodded. "Well then, I need to go now" he informed me before departing from our campus library.
So far, he doesn't seem to be the kind of person that Mrs. Anna described him to be. "Are you sure? Hmm, seems like our Yushi is getting mature now" Mrs. Anna commented after telling her everything that happened during our first session. I heard her laugh bitterly under her breath while I'm sitting in my chair. That must be the feeling of witnessing a child going from a total naughty kid to a matured adult. As if they were a different person.
"Well, maybe not fully matured yet" this catches my attention for some reason. "What do you mean, Mrs. Anna?" I turned to her. She scoffed "The problem is, Yushi is such a big flirt. He also likes to drink, almost every weekend, he's at the bar" she complains, massaging her temples. So that's why he acts that way, I see. "I even heard from his friends that he already had his first kiss. Hays, that kid"
Kiss? His question to me earlier ran into my head again. Wait, he can't be the guy that I met that night right? No way, that guy was way different from Yushi. It's probably his girlfriend or something for sure. There's no way that's me—
"Worse, he never had a girlfriend. He got his first kiss at the bar"
Oh good grief. What a big joke in a small world. I looked down at the floor in shame while hearing her still muttering about Yushi. I mean, maybe I really had met him that night. But there's no way I kissed him?! Oh goodness, Jaeyi. I closed my eyes closer, wishing all of these were just a dream.
Despite my realization, our session still continues. I taught him, and he listened like a good student. He never even brought it up again. But since I'm still a little conscious about it, not because I cared, but because of my friends. I know how crazy they would react if they saw me walking around the campus with a guy, especially Eunchae who seemed to know something and just pretended to be joking about me seeing a guy that night. Even some of my schoolmates were giving me a look one time when we were walking in the hallway. There, I found out that Yushi is actually a famous student on their campus. The usual campus heartthrob. But somehow he never had a girlfriend.
"We can't talk outside the library" I stated, which made him confused. "Why not? Is there something wrong? Is someone bothering you?" He spammed me with questions, worried what could possibly go wrong. "No, i-it's not like that. It's just my personal preference" I reasoned, hoping he could understand my request. "Then what about outside of your campus? You sure we can still talk, right?"
"No," I firmly answered. I can see how his emotions shift down. "But why?" He asked, almost a whisper. Looking at him from my point of view, he looked like a confused kitten. I sighed as I closed both of my eyes. "We just... can't" I stayed on my decision.
"You have a boyfriend?"
"I don't—wait, why are you even taking this too seriously?" I asked in curiosity. He seemed to be so affected by my small request. I mean, we can still definitely talk in messages anyways. Besides, we are just a tutor-student here. Nothing more, nothing less. "You really can't take a hint, aren't you?" He looked straight into my eyes. Is he trying to drown me by his gaze again? He cleared his throat after "I understand, Ms. Jaeyi" His sudden change of addressing me caught me off guard. Ms. Jaeyi?
"Oh, I might not be able to attend our session this Wednesday," he noted while hooking up his shoulder bag. "I have something important matter," he smiled bitterly. Why do I feel bad about my sudden decision? I mean, we do not even have a personal connection. "Hmm, understood" I accepted his excuse before he could bid his goodbye.
Tokuno Yushi, why are you making me feel this way?

I stare at my phone for the last time before running to the building across. Looks like the audition has already started. I'm not part of this dance crew anymore, I just left a few months ago due to my academics. Not gonna lie, I miss being here. Despite that, they still invited me as a judge. I honestly don't know how I became qualified as a judge for dancing. I know a thing and two, but not a professional for sure.
I knocked first before entering the room, a loud music welcomed me in. I duck down a little, hugging my bag in front of me. As soon as I found an empty seat by the front, I hopped there. "I'm sorry I'm late" I whispered to my seniors, while Eunchae was sitting to my right. "You almost missed it," she whispered back. I bowed my head a little as an apology.
After the performance, my seniors gave them a few comments. Since I just came by, I just quietly nodded to their statements. "Ok, next please—oh, hi Jaeyi. I didn't notice you're here already!" Karina waved at me. "She's been here for ages, actually" Hanbin joked, which made Karina slap his shoulder. As the next person entered, I took a quick peak at the list. Someone's name got my attention. Goodness, even here?!
"Hello, I'm Yushi Tokuno from...," he then introduced himself while I'm reading his name on the list. I slowly looked up to him, it really was him. I gulped. "Oh, Yushi. What made you audition to our dance crew?" Hanbin then asked. I noticed his small glanced at me before raising the mic below his mouth.m"I audition here because of how amazing your dancers were, and..." He looked at me, I avoided it. Don't even mention—
"... I'm just really interested in dance. That's all" I sigh in relief. I looked at him again, he was still staring at me. "Ok then, you may start" Karina gave him the cue. As the music started, his aura also shifted. His eyes turned into a dark gazed. His body was moving with the beat, owning the song. As if he is not here for an audition, but rather a performance. What a dancer—wait. This technique, this moves, this groove, it was all the same as that guy from last night.
No way, I can no longer deny it anymore. Everything that happened that night is running in my head again, but clearly. The guy I bumped into, those eyes that hypnotized me. Those lips that I kissed out of the sudden. Those hands that catch my waist. It was all him—Tokuno Yushi. "Jaeyi," my neck almost jolted in pain as I turned my head to Eunchae. I noticed her small flinching from her eyes. "He's a good dancer, isn't he?" She ignored my unusual action.
I looked at him again, still dancing through the rhythm. "Quite handsome too" she complimented, which made my stomach flip. "Right," I heard Hanbin agreed with her. "He got that face, definitely a center material," he added. After his performance, I didn't notice that the mic was in front of me. Eunchae tapped my shoulder first before I could even realize. My hands were shaking.
"Y-you're..." I put my gaze at him. Still waiting for my feedback despite his heavy breathing. I cleared my throat, sitting properly. "You're definitely full of surprises," I commented. I notice how their head turns from my peripheral view. "I mean, is not that I know him," his emotions shifted again. I'm sorry, Yushi. "But he definitely surprised me." I smiled bitterly, which he did too.
"What a great dancer, Mr. Yushi" I noted, which made the room applaud for him. After a few checks, they already announced who the chosen ones were. That's how fast they were in choosing a potential great dancer. "Now, I need your opinion for our upcoming performance at next week's music festival" Hanbin immediately hopped on to the meeting. I was supposed to be out by this time, but Karina begged me to stay. Since they missed me already, they said. They also thought I could add some ideas for the performance, which is what I usually do in the past.
"I actually have an idea by now," one of the dancers stood up. "Why not let's make a love story type of dance performance?" he added, which received a few reactions from the crowd. "Right! Maybe we can take Yushi as one of our main characters.” Everyone cheered as one of the dancers pointed at him. I looked at him, he was smiling shyly. He really is shy whenever someone compliments him. I giggled under my breath, unconsciously, while caressing my lips. "Yes, let Yushi be the leading man!" Another added. For some reason, my chest tightened.
"I volunteer as the female lead then!" One of them raised its hand, I turned to her, studying her face. She seems new, yet familiar. She's probably from my campus. I tried to remember her face again, and I was right. It was the girl that glared at me while walking with Yushi in the hallway. A few cheers and awe echoed in the room again. I heard she likes him. Something uncomfortable shivers my whole body. I somehow can't sit right with this. "Would there be a kissing scene—"
"NO!" I yelled, following my impulsive thoughts. Everyone suddenly went quiet, no one dared to say a word. Eunchae turned at me. Goodness, I just want to bury myself alive right now. I blinked a few times before I could manage to open my mouth. "I-I mean, that might be too much. The k-kissing part..." I clarified, which kinda works to fool them. But I can still sense Eunchae's suspicious stares at me. While Yushi, he is probably smirking by now.
"You seemed suspicious earlier" Eunchae brought it up while looking through the window. Good thing I still have good control while driving despite her surprising me just like that. "Could you please give me at least a warning?" I warned her, which made her laugh hysterically. "I knew there's something going on!" She cheered while I rolled my eyes. "So, who is this Yushi guy, huh? And why is he making my best friend act weirdly, hm?" She teases, sitting like a madam in her office chair.
"Nothing, really"
"Oh come on, Jaeyi Park! Stop lying! You know I know you very well like your mother" she said in the matter of fact, again. I honestly don't know if I like her or not sometimes. But these questions of hers always saves me from my confusions over my own emotions. "So who is he?"
"It's complicated" my grip tightens at the steering wheel. "What do you mean it's complicated?" She asked confusedly, thirsty for answers.
I stopped the car the moment we reached her house. "You're here" I stated, looking through her window. "But you didn't answer my question," she said in disappointment. I sigh. "I will tell you once everything is settled."
***
"So," I jumped a little from Yushi's sudden voice. "Why...did you act that way at the audition?" He asked, bringing up the situation last time. "Don't take it personally" I cleared up, avoiding his eyes. I pretend to be busy at my pad, though I was just scrolling to nothing. I heard him chuckle a little while sitting across me. He cleared up his throat. "Did you know why I'm studying Korean?" The sudden change of topic stops me from whatever I'm doing. I turned my gaze to him.
He smiled. "It's because I'll be leaving by next year," he added. My heart somehow stopped beating for a minute, as if everything would start to fall apart. He leaned back to his seat, hands inside of his pocket. "I'm still not sure if I'll be accepted," he said bitterly. "But I still hope I do" he followed while staring at the ceiling.
I admire him for a moment. I could definitely see myself in his situation right now. "I'm sure you will, Yushi" I assured him, which made him look at me. "How could you be so sure?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. I just smiled at him sweetly. "Because you're Yushi. I saw how amazing you were on that dancefloor. And I can deny, but you really amazed me" I explained. I'm not even sure which of his performances I was referring to.
I saw him laugh under his breath. "Is that why you kissed me that night?" My eyes widened at this sudden topic he brought up. I think he also knows now at this point. "You—" my head tilted, glaring at him while he's trying his best not to burst out of laughter. "Of course I know. I'm not drunk that night unlike you" he teased, which made me roll my eyes. "I actually still wonder why you kissed me out of nowhere. You just literally appeared there and then—"
"Then why did you kiss me back, huh?" I cut him out, which left his hand hanging in the air as he exaggerated his storytelling. I even wondered why he kissed me back. His charming smile formed on his lips again. "You really can't take a hint" huh? What hint did I actually miss?
"Well then," he suddenly talked. This is probably the first time he talked way too much. He's usually quiet. But when he talks? It's either a question of his flirtatious words. "I think you should go for it too" is he talking about me? My eyebrows raised a question. "You should continue doing what makes you happy," he added.
I realized what he meant by now. The dance crew. "I also noticed how determined you were" he commented "Don't worry, I won't accept the male offer unless you're my partner" he leaned closer to me. My eyes widened at his sudden flirtation agenda again. I slapped his shoulder, which made him burst his laughter that he's been keeping to himself. "Shh" I heard Mrs. Anna scolded us. I glared at him, still laughing on his own.
Both of us went outside after our session. I suddenly remembered Eunchae's invite for a cup of coffee near our campus. Although we go out together, we still tried our best to pretended of not knowing each other. I noticed some few glances from my schoolmates to him again. Well, I really can't blame them. He is truly majestic. Yes, there's no way I can still deny it at this point. As long as I'm not saying it out loud to him
"Gosh, we've been waiting for you for ages" Gaeul complained, which just made me smile at her teasingly. To my surprise, even Jaehee was here. "Why are you here, huh?" I greeted him, sitting across. "Why not? Eunchae and Gaeul invited me anyway" he said in a smug, which made me roll my eyes. I noticed they already ordered something for me.
I was about to take a sip, when Eunchae suddenly shoved me. "Why is he here too? Are you guys a thing now?" she whispered, eyeing Yushi from the other table. I frowned at her for a moment. "He said his friends were coming too," I explained. "Hmm, I wonder if his friends were good-looking too" I pinched her shoulder, which made her yell in pain.
"Hey! Cut that down" Gaeul scolded us while Jaehee was just laughing beside her. "You two are making it more obvious," Gaeul said to us, which made me confused. Don't tell me even she knows something. "What do you mean by that?" I asked nervously. I can sense Jaehee's worried look at me. Gaeul scoffed. "Oh come on, everyone knows that you like Jaehee" oh no. Right, none of them knows I already confessed my feelings to him.
"Oh right" Eunchae joined in, which made me even more pissed. I took a quick gaze at Yushi's table. His friends were already there, but his focus was on us, on me. I looked at Jaehee too, avoiding my eyes. He already rejected me last month, and I also moved on by now. Yet somehow, something feels wrong. I'm worried, but not sure what the exact reason is. Gaeul keeps on going. "I mean, you two look good together anyway" Jaehee gave me a short glance. "Gaeul—"
"I like someone else now" I cut him while I'm stirring at my coffee, which made Gaeul a bit surprised. She decided not to ask me further and changes into a different topic. I took a quick glance at Yushi, who is now laughing with his friends.
I wait for them to leave first before us. "Why did you have to make it worse?" I whispered beside Eunchae, pinching her arm again. "I'm sorry, It's the only way that could save that conversation" I know, I also don't want to make Gaeul embarrassed. Plus, she doesn't know anything yet.
As we walked quietly by the entrance of our campus, all of us bid our goodbyes. "I'm sorry about earlier," Jaehee broke the silence between us. "That's fine, I'm sorry too" I apologized. We stopped for a moment, while Gaeul and Eunchae were still walking behind us. "Did you bring your car today?" He asked in curiosity. Oh right, I didn't drive it this morning because of my Dad. "Do you want me to walk you home?" Jaehee offered. I was about to say a word when I suddenly heard a motor machine behind me. I turned my head to it, watching the rider taking off its helmet. It's Yushi, his black hair was messy. "Jaeyi!" He called me, smiling sweetly. I quickly ran to him before he could do it first. I stare at him for a second, not saying a word. I never expected him to do such a bold move, despite my request.
I looked back at my friends, Jaehee and Gaeul have this huge question mark on their faces. "I'll take my leave now" I shouted while waving my hand in the air. "Let's go?" I looked back at Yushi, which is now smiling ear to ear.
***
"We are here" he stated as he stopped his motor in front of our gate. I jumped out from the seat and went on his side, as he gently took my helmet from my head. His fingers give me shivers. As he successfully took mine, our faces were unexpectedly too close to each other. I step back a little. "A-are you not mad at me?" He broke the awkward silence. "Hmm?"
"I mean, I suddenly showed up in front of your campus. I talked to you in front of your friends. Aren't you supposed to be mad at me?" He elaborated what he meant earlier. I laughed at his question, which made him confused. "Can't you also take a hint, Tokuno?" I tease him, quoting what he said to me last time.
"Oh, so you're calling me by my last name now?"
"It will be mine in the future, anyway" his eyes widened at my sudden flirtatious move. I was even surprised by what I said. What's with the air today? As if I just want him to be mine, and me to be his. A silence occupied our space.
"Yushi—"
"Jaeyi" we called at the same time, which made us both giggle. There, he handed me a ticket. I scanned it—the festival. "Jaeyi," he called me again. "Would you go out with me?" He asked. His soft voice sent shivers through my body.
I give this a thought. "I think you need to clarify what you mean by that" I teased, which made his brows almost stitch each other. "I mean, I might misinterpret it you just want me to accompany you as a frien—"
"I like you, Jaeyi" he suddenly confessed, gazes were pinned on me. I could not even look at him properly, I was just holding too tight on the ticket. "I really do," he added. Gosh, I hate how his voice made me shiver. I turned my head at him. "Are you sure about this, Yushi?" I asked worriedly. This might be the reason why I still can not admit to myself that I like him. He will be away by next year, and don't think I actually deserve him.
I only received silence. Instead, without even a second thought again, I kissed his cheek. His small scar was covered in faded rouge. He looked at
me, eyes widened. "I'm sorry" I apologize before going inside. I even forgot to clarify what I'm sorry for. I hope he doesn't misinterpret it. That I won't see him again.
It's been a week now since the last time we met. Our tutor session has come to its end now, too. Mrs. Anna handed me the money. Somehow, I hate it. I don't want to accept the money. I want our session to be extended. But to Yushi, he is good now. For some reasons too, he is also not answering my calls and messages. I knew it, he misunderstood my apology. How stupid of me. Still, I went to the festival. Eunchae advised me to go and fight for us now. "You deserve him, and he also deserves your clear answers" her words echoed through my head as I drove to the venue.
I sat by the grass, eating my food. Good thing the festival starts every 5:30 in the evening. So the heat is not a big problem. The performance of our dance crew is the opening. Maybe I could see him there. I stood up as the mc announced their performance. I looked at each performer coming up to the stage, trying to name each of them as much as I could. Unfortunately, he was not there either. A lot of negative thoughts run through my head. No, it can't be, his flight was supposed to be next year. But what if he got accepted and left immediately? Is that possible? How much was the fare to Korea? Gosh, Yushi. Where are you—
"Looking for me?" I almost jumped from my place by the sudden presence of Yushi beside me. I admired him for a minute, laughing. Without a second thought, I hugged him tightly, wrapping my arms around his neck. I couldn't say anything, but I felt my tears running down. "Yushi," I cried. He giggled softly, hugging me back by wrapping his arms around my waist. "I thought you're going to leave me" I sobbed. "I think I should be the one saying that," he joked, making both of us laugh.
He distanced himself a little, right arms on my waist while his left found a place on my cheek—wiping my tears away. I rest both of my hands on his shoulder. "You're still beautiful as the time I met you" he suddenly brought up. I smiled at his sudden sweet words. "And you're also pretty as the time I kissed you" he giggled softly.
A sudden beat from the stage caught our attention. Or maybe it was just me, I can sense his gaze pinned at me. "Jaeyi," he called, looking at my lips. "Would you like me to give you a proper kiss now?"
"Are you saying I didn't kiss you properly?" I protested jokingly, which made his charming smile form on his lips. Eyes were still looking at my lips. I looked at his lips, before meeting his eyes again. I smiled softly as a response as he leaned closer, pressing his soft lips to mine. This time, it really was better. Both of his hands were at my jaw, caressing my cheek while I wrapped my shoulder around his neck, pulling him closer, deepening the kiss. His lips dance with mine as his tongue slips through my mouth, slowly and passionately. As if memorizing every minute.
Both of us break the kiss, gasping for air as he rests his forehead to mine. "Will you be my future wife now then? Ms. Park" He said jokingly, continuing my joke from last time. I chuckled, and took a quick kiss at his lips. "I do, Mr. Tokuno"

[February 14, 10:30 PM]
Eve called me to meet her by the bridge. I asked her if she just missed me already, or was excited for our wedding. I proposed to her last month, and by that night, she was officially my fiancé now. We are planning to have a beach wedding, just like what she has been wishing for.
I stopped near the end of the bridge and decided to take a walk to where she was. I didn't know it was this far though. As I saw her long silky hair flowing through the wind, I ran immediately. "Baby," I said softly, hugging her from behind, kissing her neck.
She turned to me, eyes were lifeless. My heart dropped for a moment. She was just jolly an hour ago. We actually just had our date earlier. I wonder what happened. "Baby..." I called her again as I embraced both of her hands. "Is there something wrong?" I lower my head a little.
She was staring at nowhere. As if I was talking to someone who doesn't see me. "Eve—"
"Oh Sion" my heartbeat stopped the moment she said my name. My full name. It was sharp. I straighten my body, studying her eyes. This was not her. "Eve, is there something wrong—"
"Let's break up"
There. I feel like I was hit by the truck. Like this is just something that could be easily let go. I can not comprehend any word that she said. This must be a dream? No, a nightmare.
"W-what do you mean?" I giggled in disbelief, trying to light up this heavy unknown atmosphere. "I-is this some kind of joke?"
"I'm serious, Sion"
"But why?"
I hold on to my tears, trying to understand everything. I can not even recognize the person in front of me. The person I love my whole life. The person I gave everything. The person I was about to marry.
She closed her eyes. Palms resting on her knees. I was just staring at her, can not even move a finger. Seconds passed, I heard her sobbing. I was about to approach her, when she suddenly hugged me. It was tight, not wanting to let go. But she have to. I feel it. I let myself embrace her, for the last time.
I closed my eyes, imagining our supposed life in the future. Laughing in the kitchen, watching our favorite movies, and having dinner on the balcony. All of it is just our imagination now.
I felt my tears go down through my cheeks as I rubbed her back. I have a lot of questions to ask, a lot of unsaid words. But I choose to keep these to myself. I have to free her now. Even though I don't know why.
"It's ok, my love" I whispered, as the wind slowly took her away from me.
Present...
[February 13, 9:30 PM]
"Sion! Here!" A person screamed across the room. It was Riku, an old friend of mine from college. I walked to his place, near the bar stand. I wasn't planning to attend this reunion, but Riku insisted on me.
"I mean, you might get a date here" he says jokingly. I don't even know if he is actually joking or serious. I've tried to attend some of his blind dates set up for me. And somehow, none of it works. Maybe, love was not for me. Not in a way everyone expected it to be.
"I don't think so. Besides, they were just the same people from before, anyway" I said as I took a sip from my shot glass. The alcohol was fire. "Right...I wonder if she was here," Riku says, almost whispering. I took a narrowed glance at him. "Who?"
"Oh stop pretending you don't know who" he scoffed, drinking the alcohol in one shot. He's right, she might actually be here. But knowing her, I also do not think she will take the invitation. She is more of a staying in the house for days type of person.
I noticed Riku taking a glance at me. "Hey" he called. I looked at him. "Don't tell me you're actually expecting her?" I laughed nervously. I can feel my cold sweat from my temple. "Of course not!" I defended myself. "I've moved on already," I added.
"As you should," Riku says with a smirk painted on his face. After a few drinks, I decided to excuse myself for a moment. I never thought the venue would be this full of people. Some greeted me, some avoided me. Same as before.
I wonder if I could also take us back...
After finishing my business in the toilet, my eyes landed at the huge glass sliding door. I could see the city lights from here. I decided to step outside for a while, embracing some fresh air. The moment I stepped out on the grass, I saw a woman by the balcony.
I suddenly remember her. I thought I have already moved on. Maybe, there's still something in me, that was yearning for her presence. Her hair was flowy, dancing with the wind. Wearing a white-silk long night dress. As if she was attending someone's wedding. As I moved forward, her head turned. Our eyes met.
It was her.
She was still beautiful the day I lost her. "Eve" I walked to her, slowly. Even she was surprised. I want to hug her, and tell her that it was ok. I'm fine. But deep inside, my heart was full of questions. Why did you leave me? Did you even love me? No, what did I do wrong for you to leave easily?
Instead, I choose to stand silently in front of her. Admiring how beautiful she is tonight. "H-how have you been?" I can't help but start a conversation. As if we never knew each other before. "Sion—"
Someone suddenly interrupted us. It was a guy, standing next to her. I saw how he softly put his hand around her waist, pulling her closer. "What's the matter, Love?" The guy checked up on her. I was flustered. Love? I looked back at Eve. She was smiling. Eyes were sparkling, the same as before. Now, it is glimmering for a different person. "Nothing—"
"We used to be in the same class" I cut her off, noticing the worries in her eyes. "I hope you won't take it in the wrong way" I assure, as the man smiled back at me. Eve was still confused, avoiding my eyes. I excuse myself and take a leave, embracing my chest inside of my coat.
I ran to the parking lot instead after taking my leave from the venue. I want to go home. Or else, I might just die here. I was about to open the door of my car, when I heard a few clicks from someone's heels. I turned where it came from, it was Eve. She was breathing heavily. I can't help but run to her. I still can't manage to see her being hurt.
"Are you ok?" I took a quick glance at her ankle, kneeling. "I'm fine" she assures, trying to stand up. "Are you sure—"
"Why did you do that?" She suddenly asked. I was quite confused. "W-why not?"
She ran her hand through her hair. "Why...are you not mad at me?" I stared at her for a while. "Sion, why—"
"Then why?" I decided to follow my mind. It was for the better. In order for me to move on. I stood there in the cold, waiting for her answer. "Why did you leave me, Eve?" I followed, searching for her eyes. Silence. All I received was silence.
I scoffed. "Am I just a joke to you?" I asked in disbelief, still waiting for her to look at me. "Sion, no—"
"Did you even love me, Eve?"
"OF COURSE, I DO!"
"THEN WHY DID YOU LEAVE JUST LIKE THAT?!" I burst out, which made her flinch from a distance. My eyes soften, as if the anger inside me left my body. I feel ashamed. "Who is that...?" I asked instead, avoiding her this time.
It took a minute for her to answer. "M-my boyfriend" she says, hesitant. I closed my eyes to control my emotions. How could this be so easy for her? Easy for her to replace me just like that? I didn't bother to ask anymore and went to the car. Ignoring her calls from a distance. I drove away. Faster than my usual pace. I want to leave this place. Quickly as I could. Until I didn't notice the place anymore. A loud honk echoing through my ear. I turned my head to it, just to be blinded by the flashy light. Blocking my sight. In a moment, everything suddenly went black. I heard voices, it was not clear. All I saw was my hand, covered with blood.
[February 14, 10:30 AM]
I shook my head. Trying to get out of something that was holding my wrist. Someone was calling for me, yet somehow, I could not see them. All I could see was white. I'm getting dizzy.
"Sion!" At last, my eyes opened. I was breathing heavily. It was all a dream, Is it? I looked at the white ceiling for a while before I turned my head at the person that called. Her worried look made me more conscious of what's happening right now—it was my mother. "Mama". I said, my voice was still shaking from whatever I came from.
"Are you ok, my dear?" My mom said in a hurry, trying to help me to sit up. I narrowed my eyes. I take a minute to look at my surroundings. The sunlight was shining through the window to my right. I looked down, admiring the light blue bedding. I raised my left hand, slowly. I had a dextrose. "Are you hungry? Do you want to eat something?" I was so occupied by my thoughts that I forgot my mother was here.
I shook my head in response, trying to form a smile on my face. A moment later, a knock from the door interrupted us. "Oh, she's here"
She?
I heard the door locked, footsteps coming through the room. There, a woman standing by the other side of the room. It was Eve. I look away, not wanting her to see me in such a mess. I heard her footsteps getting closer. "Sion—"
"Get. Away. From me "I firmly said, still looking through the window. "I'm sorry"
"I SAID LEAVE!" I shouted in rage as I turned my head to her. She was still standing there, not even flinching from my action. How could she still be like this? While I'm slowly losing my mind, wondering what went wrong?
I looked down, biting my lip. I can not somehow manage to look at her eyes. It will just take me back from that night. The night she left me, and the night with a man treating her just like how I did before. Suddenly, she embraced me. Hugging me tightly. "I'm sorry, Sion," she said, sobbing.
I can feel her heart beating. As if it's been waiting for this to happen. "I'm sorry, for leaving you. For failing us" she followed. I let her hug me for a while. "I just did it, for us. For you..." I closed my eyes. "Because I love you, Sion. I really do"
I took a deep breath. "Please, leave" I said. My voice was cracking. She left a small distance between us, looking at me through the eyes. She put her hand at my cheek, trying to memorize every detail of mine. "Sion"
"Leave" i repeat as my mother slowly approaches her from behind, whispering something in her ears. Later, she left a bitter smile before taking her leave. That's what I wanted, right?. Yet, my heart still aches for her presence.

"So she basically just ragebait you, right?" Riku asked, munching at his lunch beside me. "You don't have to note it like that" I scolded him. Making him chuckle under his breath. "Sorry. I mean, I'm not wrong though" he added. I just left a sigh.
I actually regret what I did earlier. But it was also for the good, for now. I'm still fresh from the accident. "But hey, glad you're alive" Riku says casually, as if this was just a normal thing for him. I gave him a look. "Hey, I'm genuine bro. Do you want me to hug you—"
"No, no. No thanks" I stopped him, waving my palm in front of him before he could jump on my bed. He just laughed it off and went back to his business. Everything went quiet for a moment, until he suddenly talked again. Seriously. "You know, Sion," he started. "I think you should give her a chance"
I looked at him, my brows almost knitted together. He is even the one who always reminds me to move forward in my life. And now, he's insisting on giving this another shot. "I mean, this is what you want right? Answers" he said, motioning his arms in front of him.
He is right. Everything that I'm yearning and looking for is in front of me now. "I know it's hard. But that's life, truth always hurts us the most" he added. "We don't have any other choice but to face and accept it. Or else..." He looked at me. "...it will just eat us alive, till death"
I went to the rooftop for a while, thanks to Riku's help. I decided to inhale some fresh air and give myself a break from the smell of the hospital room. I look through the city, tall buildings. How strange, that life could change in just a snap. "You still love to admire the city, don't you?" A voice echoed behind me. It was Eve.
My heart used to race inside me whenever she's with me. And now, it's different. Riku's words run through my mind again. I just looked at her while walking towards me. She stopped by my side, looking at the view I was admiring. "How strange, It was still the same from before" she commented. I looked at it. "I'm sorry, Sion" she apologized, again. "I was wrong, for leaving you just like that"
I scoffed under my breath. "I can't believe it needs to take this far before you could say that" I said in pity. I heard her sighed. "I was a coward, actually," she admitted. I stay silent. "I was too scared that I couldn't even fight for our relationship," she continued. I knew it. But I still choose to hear it from her. "The guy you saw last night, I was arranged with him" I closed my eyes once again. My heart was tight, as if there's needle.
"I—" her voice cracked. "I was threatened," she says, sobbing. I can not help but also shed a tear. I turned to her, pulled her in my arms. "It's ok now, Eve" I lied. "I'm sorry, too. I was not able to protect you" I said, trying to stay firm. We stayed there for quite a while, trying to memorize every last moment we had before we could put an end to us. A clear end.
I took a deep breath first before putting a distance between us. I saw the confusion in her eyes. "Thank you, Eve"
"For everything" I added. She smiled, bitterly. It really was the end now. I may not have fully recovered everything yet, but I had to pretend that it's ok now. It's for the best. It's for us.
"I love you" I was a bit surprised by her words. Maybe, goodbyes can not only be bitter. It can also be sweet. "I love you, too”
