first snow (zhang hao)
pairing: zhang hao x fem!reader || wc: 1.6k || cw: fluff!! kissing, playful teasing || warnings: none! || a/n: first work of the year and it had to be one of my jebes <3
the snow starts at 4:17 a.m.
you know this because you have been awake since 3:58, staring at the ceiling, listening to the hush outside that only fresh snow makes. you can feel it in your bones the way sailors feel storms: the city has gone softer, slower, muffled. when you finally peel yourself out of bed and tiptoe to the window, seoul is already wearing a thick white blanket, every streetlight haloed, every ugly rooftop suddenly beautiful.
"Part of you knew ༉‧₊˚." —A Zhanghao AU

Normally, I went home by 5:30 in the evening. But now I have to sit in for my friend's meeting. I should've been watching Haikyuu instead. "Make sure you double my pay here! Plus, a movie ticket" I demanded on the phone.
It's been 30 minutes since I've arrived. "Fine. I've already informed our manager about it anyway" she stated. "By the way, is he there yet?" It’s a man. Well, it's already common as someone who is working in a corporate field. She could've just given me a heads up though. "Not quite sure..." I said as I stretched my neck, looking through the seats and the windows.
"What does he look like?"
"Well, actually... I don't know..." Huh? How could she not know the appearance of her client? I couldn't help but to raise some suspicions on her. "Is this a set up, Rei?"
"WHAT?! N-no! Why would I set you up with a client?" Makes sense. Rei has been convincing me to give blind dates a shot. She told me that's how she met her long-term partner. Unfortunately for her, I declined her offers. I do not want to just randomly date anyone that I don't even know. And I also hate dating apps. I may be hopeless romantic, but I'm not that desperate to look for a partner in life. I can live on my own.
Our call ended with the details for the meeting. She told me that he was a slim-tall guy. Probably wearing casual business attire. But if he's not going to show up by six o' clock, then I will take my leave. I was about to pack my things, when a guy suddenly stood up right across from my seat.
"Sorry, are you...Ciella Khan?" I looked up to him. He looks exactly how Rei described him. He was tall, quite broad shoulders, and had milk skin. His bangs were framing his face just right. He also has a sharp fox-eye like. "Oh, yes" I stood up from my seat. The longer I stare at him, the more it feels weird. He oddly looked familiar to me.
"Sorry, Ciella Khan. An external auditor from Invest Co." I introduced myself, offering my hand to him. "Nice to meet you, Ms. Khan. Zhang Hao, CEO of La Musica Inc." he accepted my handshake and offered to take a seat.
Zhang Hao...? Have I heard that name before? "So, uhm...have you ordered anything?" He oddly asked me. I never encountered such a client asking that to me. We usually went straight on a brief synopsis of the meeting before ordering a cup of tea.
"Well, I actually prefer tea when it comes to a meeting with a client" I respectfully elaborate my reference. "Oh?" He tilted his head slightly. "I'm sorry...are you sure you're Ciella?" He questioned me again, leaning closer on the table. Now this made my brows frowned. "Y-yes. Is there a problem, Mr. Zhang?"
He straightened his posture, awkwardly laughing to himself. "I thought this was a...blind date?" A WHAT NOW?!
I took a deep breath in. Maintaining my corporate smile to his. I knew there's something wrong. There's no way a client is this too casual when it comes to a conversation. "O-oh..." I coughed to myself, just to lessen my embarrassment. "I'm so...sorry. Apologies, Mr. Zhang. I was probably just mistaken. I just got a pile of meetings recently, that's why" I reasoned, deeply feel bad about it.
Glad he's not seem offended about it. Goodness, Naoi Rei. Really didn't give up on setting me up. "Uhm...do you want to eat something?" He just casually washed the awkwardness off the conversation. I wonder if he is just genuinely hungry.
I decided to get myself a ceasar salad, while he ordered a durian cake. I stared at it for a while. Something with durian rings a bell on me. Reminds me of someone I knew. "Oh, do you want to try some?" I must have been staring at it for a while when it made him offer me for a bite. I politely declined.
"So...how was your work as an auditor?" He's trying to start a conversation. I stop from munching my food and give it a thought. "Well, I actually don't know how to put this..."
"O-oh" he put his teaspoon down. "I'm sorry, it may be a too personal question" he apologized. I shook my palm. "No, it's fine. It's just that, it's been a while since someone asked me about my career." I noted. It seems like everyone became less interested in my life the moment I graduated and got my license. It was a good thing, anyway.
"Well, that's good for you"
"Hm?"
"I mean, you label your job as a career. So I'm really glad you enjoyed it, at least" he even noticed that. How observant of him. I smiled after taking another bite of my salad. "If you don't mind, how was yours?"
He looked up for a few seconds. "This was actually not my dream. I wanted to be a musician" he says, a bitter smile written on his face. My eyes soften, feeling bad about it. I suddenly remember someone I know from my college.
"But for the sake of practicality, I need to take a business related program way back in college. So here I am, I ended up being a CEO" he giggled. "What instruments do you play then?" I was actually letting my guard down. Seems like my soul knows him, found comfort just by simply talking to him.
"I play some, but violin is my forte" I let out an amused oh. "I was actually part of a musical band when I was in college. Not to brag, but I was quite famous" we both giggled as he leaned closer to me. "Never thought you're this cocky, Mr. Zhang"
"Hao. You can call me Hao" he noted. I nodded in response to him. "So how about you, what are your interests?" He questioned back. "I was in a journalism club. Photojournalism, to be exact."
His eyes widened in surprise. "Then you must be a poet" I feel my brows arched naturally. "Sorry, I'm just like this" he giggled, reaching his fingers in my forehead. "You should avoid frowning too much. I might actually fall for you..." My heart jumped a little from his gesture. Another bell rings in my head.
No...it can't be...
After a few chats, Hao insists on giving me a ride to the station. "Well, looks like this is where we say our goodbyes" he says as I nodded my head. "Thank you for today, Hao," I smiled.
"Thanks to you too, uhm..."
"Ciella"
"Right, Ciella. Thank you for being my first blind date" he giggled shyly. A sudden curiosity arose in me. Something pushed me to ask it.
"This was your first?" I asked, quite surprised. He hummed. "I just thought if I should finally leave my first love behind and move on. So, I give this a shot" first love...
"I'm sorry..."
"Oh no, it's fine. That was way back in college already. Things are different now" I take time to memorize his face. Without a second thought, I asked him. "Hao, if you don't mind, which college did you exactly go to?"
"Northford. Northford University"
Oh, shit.
"WHATTTTT??!!!!" Rei screamed across the room as I told her everything, Including the last part. "That was...him?" She said to herself, biting her finger nails. Ever since I got into the bus, I was forcing myself not to scream. I'm already losing my sanity inside.
I sighed in disbelief, sitting at the corner by the door. Zhang Hao, simply Hao, was a senior of mine when I was in college. Long story short, he was my first love. I can still vividly remember how I went crazy over him. Yearning for the moments we could at least talk or see him. I was so desperate to see his face back then just for a month, and everything would be fine. Not until I decided to leave Northford in Junior Year. I wonder if he received my letter though. I can not even remember if I actually got to talk to him in person.
"Ciella..." I heard Rei sobbing beside me. I didn't even notice when she got here. "I'm sorry" she cried, hiding her face behind my arm. I left out a big sigh. "My bad, I actually haven't told you about him" I assured. "Are you mad?" She pouted. I stared at the ceiling for a while. Rei met him in a meeting. Naturally talkative, Hao accidentally told her he is interested in blind dates.
"Just give me the first half tomorrow," I said. I stood up from my seat and went straight to my room to wash up. I heard her complaining noises from behind. I stared at my reflection for quite a while after locking myself inside the bathroom. Good thing we forgot to exchange numbers. I suddenly remembered it.
"First love, huh? I wonder who it is..." I scoffed. I already have an idea, anyway. In fact, that person was the reason I let go of Hao. For them to be happy, and to free myself from the pain.
***
I went straight to Rei's cubicle after finishing my emails this morning. I need that half, I'm still missing a few from my Haikyuu comics collection. "Seriously, you will just slack off that money" she stated bitterly.
"It's for my sanity, Dumbo. Don't you believe that money can buy happiness?" I use the money as a fan. "I think it should go the other way," she smirked, making me roll my eyes.
"Whateve—"
"Ms. Khan!" I turned my head to the direction of the voice. "You might have forgotten, we have a meeting by ten" my brows knitted to each other. "Me? I thought it was..."
"The client requests it" oh? How can there be a client so picky and actually choose me? I'd rather go to the deep farms for inventory count rather than this. "I didn't know you're that famous," Rei teases from behind. I just gave her a stare. I looked back at my office mate. What else could I actually do?
I sighed.
"I'll be there in 5 minutes"
"Looked down?" I was doing my business on an ATM Machine, when someone suddenly stood beside it. I looked at him, it was Hanbin. His work was just a few blocks away from ours. He was an Architect there. He used to work here before, that's why he can just casually come in and out whenever he wants. "Oh, what are you doing here?" No such effort in my response.
"I don't like that" He pouted. "Don't like what?" My brows narrowed. "That tone. Did I do something wrong?" He lowered his head, looking through my lashes. At some point, I'm stuck. But I feel empty. I feel—.
"Ciella" a familiar voice shouted from the stairs. Both of us, Hanbin, took our turns where the voice echoed. It was Hao. My eyes widened. I was about to hide behind Hanbin, but I noticed how his eyes lit up. I know. Part of me knows.
"Is that...?" He looked at me. "Hao. Zhang Hao from our college" I continued, looking away. Hanbin probably noticed. "Are you ok?" I never got to answer his question the moment I felt Hao's presence from behind. I can not seem to handle this situation. I quickly got out and ran up the stairs, didn't even bother to greet Hao.
I feel bad, I do. But I need to do this, for my sake. I took a quick heavy breath, resting my head on the wall before entering our office.
I thought it was finally over...
I went to the meeting room. Apparently, it was Hao who is our client. What a great day indeed. The universe is probably laughing at me right now. "How about you, Ms. Khan?" My manager suddenly called. "Do you have any solution to this?" I looked back at my tablet, scan their company's financial statements. There was a problem with their working capital, it was negative.
I took a deep breath, reminding myself to remain professional. I looked up to them. "The thing is, maybe there can be an adjustment with their assets. Such as selling some of your non-currents. I suggest checking those, maybe some of them can be considered as junk now and can be sold instead" I explained, looking at each of them, then back to my tablet. I can feel my hands are getting numb.
"The goal here is to increase the current assets, and in order to achieve that..." I glance at Hao. "We have to let go of some of our long-term assets" a long silence occupied the room. "Woah, never thought you're that deep, Ms. Khan. Are you sure this is still about the working capital?" My manager joked, lessening the heavy atmosphere in the room.
Or maybe, it was just me. "Truly, a poet" he suddenly spoke, looking me straight in the eye. I know he was confused about what I did earlier. Or maybe, he knew.
The meeting ended with the conclusion to the problem. Looks like he will consider my suggestion. "Thank you again, our pleasure to serve" my manager smiled, took her bow before taking her leave. It was me and Hao now.
I was about to leave the room when he decided to interrupt me. "Are you free this Sunday, Ciella?" I stop for a moment, tightening my grip on the strap of my shoulder bag. "Mr. Zhang, we are at the office setting" I stated, turning my gaze to his.
"Right. I apologize, Ms. Khan. Can we hold a meeting this Sunday, then?" A smirk was painted on his face. "Ha?"
He just smiled at himself, walking right to my direction. "I'll wait for your response" he whispered through my ear, sliding something inside my bag. Zhang Hao really knows his way. The thing is, I don't know if he actually knows what he is doing. I closed my eyes in disbelief, putting my face on my palms. I genuinely do not know what to feel.
"Ha! It's been a while since we went home together" Rei joyfully slid her arms around mine, dragging me outside the building. I just nodded as a response. She looked at me from below. She pursed her lips together, as if she finally got it.
I suddenly heard a horn buzzing in front of us, a white car. It was Hanbin. "Come in" right. Very right.
***
Hanbin gave us a ride, which means he has plans other than riding us home. We went to this new restaurant. A Filipino Restaurant to be exact. "I just thought you need something that feels like home" he smiled, his whiskers-like dimples showing. He really knows me.
Hanbin was a friend—no, a best friend of mine since high school. He was my first friend the moment I moved here when I was fifteen. And somehow, we clicked. While Rei, we just got closer a month ago. So yes, that's why she didn't know me that much, and the same goes to me.
Both of them ordered adobo. I brought valencian instead. "So, he was here?" Hanbin brought it up. I nodded. "Thanks to this woman" I gave Rei another look. "Hey! In my defense, I haven't got to know your whole lore yet!" Hanbin laughed as if there was no tomorrow. "Spoiler, it was a rollercoaster" I slapped his shoulder, making him hold it in pain.
After a few chats, the three of us went outside. There was a small park near the restaurant. We could see the river from here. Quite romantic for the couples, youthful to the teens, comforting to the disturbed. Rei decided to give us a moment.
Rei 6:45 PM
Hey, make sure to talk things out. Then let me know after;)
I read her text. Such a nosy, truly a friend of mine. "Oh, where's Rei?" Hanbin went back, holding a cup holder with three halo-halo in it. "She went to the comfort room" I pointed from behind. He just sat beside me, feeling the cold touch of the grass. "Ah, this must be the “touch some grass”" both of us giggled.
"So, you didn't answer me earlier" I turned to him, confused. "Are you ok?" He repeated. Oh.
"Y-yes, I'm fine" I forced a smile. I don't want to bother him anymore. This was already in the past. I should get rid of this by now. "You know, I think you should give it a shot"
"Huh?"
"Zhang Hao, I mean. He's a good guy" of course you know. Of course you will say that. "Do you like him, Hanbin?" I asked, afraid of getting the response I've been thinking.
"Yes, I do," he admitted. "But not in a way you thought" my head turned around quickly. He was smirking, trying hard not to burst out of laughter. "You knew?!"
"Since college, stupid" he lay down on the grass. I was flustered. I don't even know what to say. "Well, I somehow liked him that way. But that was just a small crush" he continued. "But—"
"It's fine, Lela" that was his nickname for me. "I'm sorry, for assuming" I can not help but feel bad for him. He sat up again, leaning closer to me. "Don't worry about me, hm? Go get your man. You two are destined to be together"
***
I might finally get Hanbin's side, but I'm still not rest assured that Zhang Hao actually sees me that way. I was just standing by the entrance of the café. He was inside, chatting on his phone. It was me, the person he is talking to. I don't know whether to continue this date or just ghost him. But that's what I already did before.
I decided to delete my message and took a deep breath. A wind chime rang through the corners of the café. The smell of caffeine welcomed me. I noticed how Hao stood up immediately, waving his hand. I could easily notice him, even from this far.
Both of us just quietly sat down, there was a piece of paper on the table. I can somehow recognize it. "So, you must be Graciella" he started, posture maintained while looking right through my eyes. It's been a while since I could look at him this close. He was still the same, perfectly sculpted.
I nodded. He must be pertaining to my letter. "I... received your letter. Your confession letter" I glance at the paper. It was still neat as before. "But" my eyes landed on his. "I refused to read it."
"W-why?"
"It's because..." Hanbin. I already suspected he likes Hanbin. How his face lit whenever he saw him in the crowd. How jolly and child-like he was whenever they talked. They said they were just friends. I doubt that.
"Hanbin" my voice slit. I never meant to mention him. I panicked, covering my mouth. "I'm sorry, please excuse me" I stood up, immediately ran outside. I can not catch my breath. My heart was so tight that I just wanted to get it out of my chest. I ran for miles, and I didn't even know where to go.
I found myself on an empty road. Lights where the only things I could name. I didn't even notice how drenched I am from the rain. I was about to collapse in tears, when I suddenly didn't feel any raindrops on my body. I looked up, it was Hao. He was soaking wet. There, I gave up.
"Ciella—"
"Let's stop this, Hao"
"Ciella, I like you!" He screamed. Still holding the umbrella above me. I'm trying to move the umbrella above him. "You'll get sick"
"I don't care if I will get sick, or even die right in front of you now" my eyes widened. How could he act like this?! "Hao..."
"I like you—"
"STOP FORCING YOURSELF!" I burst out, tears flowing through my cheeks. "Hao, you don't have to force yourself to like me" I purse my lips. His eyes soften. His sharp gaze was nowhere to be found. "But, I do like you..." He looked down, let go of the umbrella. I don't know what to do. I was holding tight on the umbrella. At some point, my lips were shutted.
"I didn't read the letter..." He looked right to me. I was, somehow, drowned in his gaze. "....because I don't want your goodbyes. I want you. And I promised to look for you. To tell you everything" he leaned closer, it didn't bother me. “Ciella, I like you, please listen to me…” he begged. Inch closer to me. "I'm sorry" was the only thing I could say. He leaned closer, slipping hands through my waist and hugging me closer. I melted to his touch, wrapping my arms around his neck.
He leaves a small distance from our faces. He looked at my eyes first, dropping to my lips. I cannot comprehend everything at once right now. But one thing for sure, this is somehow...real. "Ciella" he pressed his forehead in mine. "Would you give us a chance?"It took me a moment to respond. I nodded, a smile formed on my face. "Yes"
A small giggle escapes from our lips, looking back at mine. "Can I...?" pertaining to a kiss. I nodded. Next thing happened, he landed his lips on mine. It was soft, gentle and slow as both of his hands found my jaw. Cupping face, angled it just right. I was shaking at first, probably because of the cold. And later on somehow, it was warm. His kiss was as warm as his touch. As if he's been looking for it, but his feelings remain. His love remains. Both of us smile through the kiss.
I never knew this is how life will bring us together again. I never even thought that we would see each other again. Things could end like this. I already gave up everything, not knowing he was fighting to look for me.
“I love you, Graciella…” he whispered, forehead pressed on my. “I love you, too. Hao…” I left another quick kiss on his lips. Who would have thought that my first blind date is going to be my first love.

————————————-
The moment the Disco Pang Pang ride came into view, Y/n knew Jiyoon was up to something.
“No,” she said firmly.
“Yes,” Jiyoon grinned, already pulling her toward the ticket booth.
“I’ll fly off. I’ll cry. I’ll go viral.”
“You’ll survive. Probably.”
———
And now here she was, fingers clenched tight around the center bar as she sat next to Jiyoon near the middle of the spinning platform. The music thudded through her chest like a warning sign.
Across the ride, three guys climbed aboard. Loud, energetic, full of teasing laughter. Y/n glanced up once and instantly regretted it.
The boy at the end of the row tall, black hoodie, jawline unfairly sharp was already sitting down, but somehow still looked cool doing it. He didn’t say much, just smiled faintly at something his friend whispered.
She didn’t know his name, obviously. But if looks could talk, his said: confident, quiet, probably popular, dangerous for your heart.
🎤 “Alright! Time for the Discooo Pang Paaang! Everyone ready to regret their life choices?!”
The DJ’s voice blasted through the mic, and the ride jolted forward as Y/n flinched tightening her grip.
🎤 “Let’s see, let’s see… who do we have sitting center today?”
The spotlight hit Y/n like a physical force and then she froze.
🎤 “Ooooh? What’s this? A shy one?! Look how she’s gripping that bar like it’s her ex’s secrets!”
Laughter erupted from all corners as Jiyoon laughed beside her, Y/n wanted to melt into the floor.
🎤 “Don’t be shy, center girl! This ride is a bonding experience! Now let’s check the other side… oh what’s this?”
The light landed on Gunwook.
🎤 “Tall, brooding, hoodie boy on the end what’s your name?”
Gunwook looked up, startled, but spoke calmly. “Gunwook.”
🎤 “Gunwook! Nice name! How old?”
“Twenty.”
🎤 “Yahhh! The youth these days! And our shy girl? How old are you, miss center?”
Y/n hesitated. “…Twenty.”
The DJ gasped dramatically.
🎤 “Same age?! Same section?! Same DESTINY?!”
More laughter. Gunwook gave a tiny smile, but said nothing. He glanced at Y/n just once then quickly looked away. The ride jerked as the disc spun faster and then bounce. Y/n shrieked, sliding slightly, she held firm but not for long.
🎤 “Let’s help her warm up! Just a liiiittle tilt!”
The ride tilted, hard.
Y/n yelped, her grip slipping and she slid, crashing sideways across the center mat and stopping right near Gunwook’s side.
The DJ lost his mind.
🎤 “OHHHHHHHHHHHH! She’s down!! Fallen for love already??!”
Y/N scrambled to sit back up, face burning red.
🎤 “Gunwook-ah! A beautiful lady has literally fallen at your feet. You’re not gonna help her up?! She’s going to think you’re heartless!”
Gunwook’s ears turned pink. He leaned forward slightly awkward, hesitant then offered a hand, barely lifting it off the bar.
Y/n took it wordlessly, using it to steady herself and sit upright again. Her hand was shaking and so was his.
They let go quickly, both pretending nothing happened.
🎤 “AWWWWW! What is this? A shy couple drama? Netflix, call me!”
The ride kept spinning. The DJ kept teasing. Gunwook’s friends nudged him. Jiyoon whispered, “you touched hands, Y/n!”
Y/n didn’t reply, She was busy trying not to smile.
Time skip-
When the ride finally stopped, everyone staggered off like a newborn deer.
Gunwook walked off quietly with his friends, hoodie pulled over his head a bit more now.
Y/n and Jiyoon followed the crowd. As they reached the exit gate, she risked a glance back as Gunwook looked over his shoulder at the same time.
Their eyes met for half a second before he gave her a tiny, almost invisible nod.
Y/n’s heart thumped. She looked down, smiling as Jiyoon grinned beside her. “You two said maybe five words total, but the tension? INSANE.”

hands
[ author's scribbles ! ] i am so normal about hands. very normal. normalest.
[ extras ! ] @kstrucknet + wc 244.
gyubin is busying himself, watching something on his phone. you too are busying yourself.
with his hand.
his palm is laid flat, the inner side up for you to trace. ever since you started dating, gyubin noticed your fascination with his hands. but he didn’t mind, quite the opposite. sure, it boosted his ego, but also he simply enjoyed your touch.
your finger traced the lines on his palm, feather-like touches. it tickled him a bit but he got used to the feeling by now.
his hand was huge. you mindlessly tracked the lines, only to start moving your hand around his fingers. as if drawing an invisible outline, you felt the roughness of his skin, the small bump on his middle finger from writing. even his nails: short but clean. you travelled down to the valley between his index finger and thumb. drawing a crescent with your fingertip, you returned back to the middle of his palm.
gyubin looked at you, soft smile on his face.
you slowly placed your hand flat on his palm, aligning fingers. they looked tiny on the background of his big hand, as if a giant’s grasp was to trap you.
and, quite frankly, it did.
gyubin closed his hand, fingers finding his way to rest next to yours. a giggle left your lips as you rose your interlocked hands up.
“look!” you kept grinning, amused at the ridiculous size difference.
but his eyes were only on you.
