I had a lot of fun with this final project. I don’t usually draw myself, but when i found out I could do anything as long as it had my face in it, i knew i wanted to go the wizard route. I’ve been obsessed with fantasy and medieval settings for a long time, and Ive dressed up as a wizard for class and conventions multiple times. I wanted to add my own spin on what a wizard is, so i added a few little imps here and there as if i keep them as pets. As for the process itself, i felt like i couldnt get values that were extremely different for some parts, or that they blend together a lot. Either way, it was fun.

Being able to listen to my favorite music for class was actually really fun and at the same time the assignment allowed me to do pseudo-fan art of one of my favorite games. I’ll admit, i really dislike painting; i’ve never been able to mix and layer colors with paint well, so when i found out the assignment required it, i was kind of worried. Honestly, i like one side more than the other. And some parts did stress me out with how to identify the patterns and then paint them in a cohesive way. At the very least i got more paint practice.

I’m not the greatest painter, so i had difficulty with this project. I felt like the color mixing turned out too intense or too similar to the others, so i do feel sort of underwhelmed by the final result. Still, i really do like the fall color palette since it reminds me of Over the Garden Wall, and i love that show’s color scheme. If i had more time, i’d go over every square with more layers.

Perspective Collage

Magazine and comics, colored markers, Sobo glue

At first, I didn’t have any set idea in mind for this project. In fact, I didn’t have any of my materials gathered, until my parents retuned from a trip and handed me a couple of magazines from Yellowstone. I managed to use those magazines and a batman comic i had laying around (it was a freebie i got from a store a couple years ago, don’t worry) and decided to do a sort of faux-nature theme. I felt like the walls being solid with pictures of the outside world was an ironic twist that referenced how animals are sometimes treated in zoos like SeaWorld. Alongside that, the bears being put next to each other with different species, and the different types of birds stacked up poke fun at how unethically diverse Zoo settings are. The far background being a completely different theming (a snowy, dusky area) shows how jarring it is to go from a jungle setting to an arctic setting in a Zoo. The motorcyclists and Hot Dog Lady ™️ represent the absurd activities that might take place in those locations. The woman with the camera is meant to represent the audience taking photos.

Value & Texture Rock Gnome

I chose this specific object, a house gnome, because my house is riddled with them everywhere. I also felt like the fluffy texture of the original object would be fun to make an opposite of, hence why I chose a rocky texture. I had fun creating every small crack in the object, even if it was a pain to add value and shading to. In the end, it was a good project for me as I don’t have the best grasp of value and gradients.

Parking lot windows

I decided to do the side of the MDC parking lot building because I felt that the windows and their shadows would add a nice and consistent patter across the whole piece. That alongside the triangular roof and its support beams extended across the whole page, I believe added a nice contrast from the top of the piece to the bottom. Although I’m happy with the final product, I do wish I had done more interesting patterns across the top of the piece and some more support beams going across the page to add a little more consistency.
