i feel like pluto when it stopped being a planet
years later i find myself rereading dandelion wine, a book that will forever be associated with august for me with the melancholy of summer slipping away, of childhood gone, of memories so beautiful they almost hurt
this book always takes me back to my grandmother's summer house where plum trees grew in the little garden and raspberry bushes were scattered everywhere, where the milkman used to leave a jar of homemade milk by the door in the mornings, where the walls always seemed to be filled with the sound of children's laughter and where the tv would murmur quietly in the evenings while my mother and grandmother sorted through beans
it makes me remember the smell of burnt hay, dusty streets, wet earth. that feeling of cool air on your skin after the sun goes down, the little shivers and goosebumps you try to hide from your mother after refusing to bring a jacket
it was impromptu movie nights and karaoke sessions right there in the living room, searching the night sky for constellations. it was a life where every day was a small joyful adventure. it was serenity, lightness and love
Crazy how those old wounds will rip open again on a random Wednesday
or a Sunday
me: wow this blogger has basically the same body type as me!
the blogger: sorry guys i'm in the absolute worst shape of my life after giving birth to my fourth child
my 24-year-old unmarried childless ass: okay okay

you have destroyed and betrayed yourself for a nuanced reason
your worst sin is that you have destroyed and betrayed yourself for nothing
