red-on-white, matching bangs. trying on her glasses and squinting, hard.
his first thought is that something’s caught up to him. something he tried to down’s resurfaced all at once, the image of his baby sister catches the light behind his gaze catches the woman in front of him.
of course he recognizes something he’s done so much to distance himself from. bile oozes at the back of his mouth, dabi chews at his lip, the silence grows heavier with every passing second.

“I ran away not long after your supposed death. Maybe for closure, or because I wanted to be with you again. Who knows.” She gives a shrug. “I guess this is as close as I’ll get. So, thanks.” Wow, she really should be feeling more than this. It seems like maybe none of it mattered as much as she thought it did. Or, maybe, she is just too numb to process it.
“Will you burn me now? I heard you do that to people who bother you.” She’s not joking or teasing. It’s a serious inquiry.
