I can't get over the misogyny of making it canon that Claudia claimed lestat threatened to rape her on the train, just to have that be a lie she told. They had a woman lie about a man sexually harassing her to ruin his image. It doesnt matter that her actions are justified in a watsonian reading. These are fictional characters who were designed to say and do these things. There is a vast history not only of women, but girls specifically being considered biologically predisposed to lie about rape, especially at the hands of their fathers. This show just cares so much about rape victims that they have to promote rape culture, eh?

sure, let's have a black woman be basically a caricature, call her black father a nappy-headed slave, claim she never cared for him even though the past two seasons make it very clear that's not true, say she hates him more than her rapist and the people who murdered her, claim she intentionally and maliciously lied about being threatened with rape, say she prefers her white father (who horrifically abused her for 30 years btw) over him, and then have said fathers not show a single intense emotion over it afterwards. you know, since we can have characters just do ANYTHING now.

The death of this show will be caused by the thousand and one quips, that the amc writers' room have convinced themselves are quirky and funny. Notice how all of their jokes this season are made at the expense of lived realities that are far different from those the writers themselves may have faced? So you will have a pronoun joke here and a little racism there, with a dash of misogyny sprinkled in between. I cannot get over their little jokey "justice4antoniette", not only because the history of s1- the man of the house cheating on his black spouse with a racist white lady, who was then entrusted with the task of killing the black girl child this marriage produced-but also it feels like such an insensitive jab at the phrase in itself. Something that's so often used as a call to action for victims of violence, and sure we joke around with the phrase too and in fact mayhaps at times diluted it too- but this? THIS?? with the context we have of a TV show that once centered two black leads much to the chagrin of many, so now when there's someone else to lead the show, the characters both black and brown are being made into caricatures and flattened to death in an attempt to soothe the ruffled feathers... Yeah, that's just nasty. Also when you have "Louisiana fried chicken"/"big bad wolf"/"cancerous jackal" all wrt to a black gay man, and then a piece of costume which goes:" hip hop sucks" then the writing is already on the wall, no?

Buck should confess to Eddie and Eddie should reject him because he "doesn't feel that way" but bc he can't stand to see Buck sad (#bucksads) he tries to comfort Buck by giving him a kiss on the lips and of course it's pouring rain and when he steps back Buck Could be crying or it could just be the rain but he looks devastated and betrayed so Eddie pulls him back in for another kiss but deeper this time and Buck pushes him back and they just stand there. looking at each other.

Honestly, Eddie's reaction to Buck saying it would've been better for Chris if he was the one who got shot is actually crazier than it was for him to change his will and just not tell Buck. Because that's an objective truth. Of course it would've been better for the kid who already lost his mother if his dad didn't get shot. It just would be. Chris has a solid support system, but that doesn't replace his father. But Eddie takes personal offense to the implication. Because changing his will made Buck a parent in Eddie's brain, he just didn't inform Buck. So he realizes he needs to let Buck know that he is a parent in Eddie's brain. So that he wouldn't say things that imply he's not. And that's just a fascinating glimpse to the way Eddie himself doesn't realize just how tangled in his life he's making Buck be.

i do think if someone were to point blank ask eddie if he was in love with buck he'd be like Oh. like he might go to say No or even say No but would also immediately realise that Oh wait. that might not be true actually. oh. Guys if you want queer shit written by queers on our own terms you're going to have to start seeking out weird independent media. I'm sorry that's the only place you can regularly find it idk what to tell you, we can't keep acting like there's nothing if we're not getting blockbusters and triple A titles or whatever it is we're waiting around for. I say this with so, so much care: Real queer shit written by real queers can and will sometimes make you uncomfortable. That's one of the defining features of weird, independent queer media. And weird independent media more broadly. Art that comes from true individual passion and authenticity has edges and bite to it that mass market corporate products intentionally do not. Has a rawness that can offend.

You are allowed to feel uncomfortable about it. But don't ask for queers to self censor for your comfort.
