my god the death flags have been there since the very beginning... I knew that first shot of kaito feeding those shadow things looked sus... the majority of ep 23 being mainly kaito worrying about luna and talking about "rewriting fate." this ep where he finally complimented her before luca, paid off his debt, and he actually built up the courage to ask her to dance. the fact that his character development had to end in his death (oh tkdb u MAKE ME SICK.)

but BUT BUT!!!!! HEAR ME OUT. from a writing perspective, yeah kaito had his HUGE character development and all BUT we still don't know his family history or the importance of his pendant.... so i'm like 85% our boy is coming back and that the TIME LOOP THEORY IS REAL from what elias and taiga seemed to be alluding to. also the fact that luna said near the end, "if I'd never met the ghouls, none of this would have happened..." this is a parallel to the very first chapter where she said, "if I'd known it was going to end like this, i wouldn't have fallen for them in the first place..." THEN she mentions "the words slipped out before I could stop them." WHY DID THEY SLIP OUT LUNA? WAS IT BECAUSE YOUR HEART AND BODY REMEMBERED AND NOT YOUR MIND....??? HMMMMMM??? and then our girl blames it on being tired right after.. yeah... we're getting that time loop guys...

in 35 days we'll see our comedic relief sunshine incarnate kaito alive and well and yelling at luca every 5 seconds.

anyways there's a whole LOT more that I need to to talk about because holy canole macaroni.. i'm going through the five stages of grief rn and still processing all the lore bombs that came from this episode. I'll probably replay the whole episode and create a thread thingy later. I've never made one before so we'll see... for now I'll just stare at my ceiling for the next 3 hours..

nahh my money is on her two besties hodge and podge making the dress. they're the only darkwick staff actively taking care of her during her depression. and i don't know if darkwick themselves even care enough to give our girl a dress one last time.. look at the state of clementia this whole game.

I also don't imagine luna taking the selena hodge and podge made with her to the gala.. so unless parts of her fabric or earrings have those herbs hidden somewhere, that gala is going to smell like flowers (it's ok though it'll mask all those musty students).

they finally posted the last house!! let's just pretend we all never saw it on that magazine a few days ago...

yuri looks very resolute in his expression and in the way he is gripping that bag for dear life. jiro, who is taking the fluids, looks more exhausted than usual and somewhat weak (poor guy..). they are not giving up on finding the cure that's for sure.

furthermore, there's so much clutter and test tubes scattered everywhere that it makes it seem like they're working themselves to the bone as the MC's deadline draws near.

also, I never noticed that yuri and jiro have matching earrings?? hello?? that is so adorable!! and you know what else is adorable? yuri's heart pin (oh what a cutiepie).

okayy so woah.. was not expecting this! the art style is different again, and ed is in the middle and he.. looks serious for once?! he's also the only one looking at us, and his expression looks like he's scheming something (either for the mc or for darkwick). his body is very relaxed though, but it definitely looks like he knows something.

lyca being the only one reaching was expected as he will undoubtedly continue to believe in saving the mc through any means. honestly, darkwick's treatment toward the mc and their ultimate goal to imprison and research her after she turns into an anomaly is extremely telling regarding their plans with the boys of obscuary (the house of "dangerous" non-human ghouls). so mayhaps these prickly slithering purple vines may hint toward darkwick's control over them (or maybe im just throwing words like candy).

now rui's illustration is very interesting because although he's unexpectedly the ghoul that's in the light, his face is still hidden in the shadows, and he seems to be blocking away the light with his hand. his expression is a surprise too! instead of looking devastated (flashback to ep 22 ending..), he looks almost angry and exasperated. it's definitely a face we've never seen on our cheerful boy before. there's skulls surrounding him too, so it's likely that he's probably at a breaking point with his guilt.

anyways, 8 more days until we find out if the 400 yr old grandpa breaks out of his laziness to actually do something (ed, really, i love u.. but the time is NOW!!)

oh gosh these poor ghouls 😭 the art style is different from the others, and everyone looks especially sad in this one! it doesn't help that the rain is making it look like haku and subaru have tears dripping down their face..

zenji looks crestfallen as if the ending isn't headed toward the way he'd hoped, subaru seems as if he's struggling to register reality, and haku has the most depressed expression of them all as if he's become numb and detached. while haku's demeanor is very closed off with crossed arms, subaru's hands are loosely folded, and zenji's arm lays freely on his body.

since haku's the one cloaked in shadow this time, he's probably feeling immense guilt toward the MC and helplessness at the hands of darkwick. it could also be that he knew about darkwick's plans for the MC all along (the kyklos running loose in the beginning has yet to be explained, and also haku has mentioned secret missions given by darkwick in the hotarubi introduction episode). zenji and subaru, on the other hand, seem likely to believe that a different outcome is still possible (knowing subaru, just because the MC will turn into an anomaly does not spell the end).

I don't have enough brain juice to ramble more, but this probably means obscuary is next, and oh my god I am not prepared to see rui's expression. there's a high chance lyca will be in the middle because of his whole "i will do it first and show you it's possible" mentality! I also predict ed will just be ed, mysteriously smirking nonchalant ed, not too worried about anything because he knows everything ed, "when the time is right i'll come to your aid" ed..
