In Germany we donât say âI donât careâ we say âDas ist mir Wurstâ which roughly translates as âThis is sausage to meâ I think thatâs beautiful.
no you donât understand we actually do say that
i crashed my car into a bridge
THIS IS SAUSAGE TO ME
We also say âThatâs not my beerâ for âThatâs none of my buisnessâ and I think thatâs beautiful
is germany even real
My roommate dated a German.  When I was making dinner one night, he asked my roommate, âthis food⊠does it taste?â
At our confusion, he explained that in Germany, food either âtastesâ or âdoes not tasteâ. Â Which he then said he supposed said something about German food.
To be fair we do say âit tastes goodâ and âit tastes badâ and many variations thereof, but when we want to be succinct, then yes, it just tastes or doesnât taste.Â
Other fun turns of phrase in German include:
âIch verstehâ nur Bahnhofâ = âI only understand train stationâ for when youâre confused
âHast du Tomaten auf den Augen?â = âHave you got tomatoes on your eyes?â for when someoneâs not seeing the obvious
âAuf die Schippe nehmenâ = âTake someone on a shovelâ, basically means to take the piss out of someone
âDu gehst mir auf den Sackâ = âYouâre walking on my sackâ for when youâre pissed off
the world is beautiful
also thereâs two more variations of âDu gehst mir auf den Sack.â (btw by sack we mean testicle. yeah.)
âDu gehst mir auf den Senkel.â = âYouâre walking on my shoelace(s).â
âDu gehst mir auf den Keks.â = âYouâre walking on my cookie.â
ALSO WE HAVE THE WORD âDOCHâ (basically means yes, but in response to someone saying no) AND IT IS A FUCKING TRAGEDY THAT THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE HAS NO EQUIVALENT
I MISS âDOCHâ SO MUCH you basically have to settle for âdoes soâ or âyes it doesâ or something not half as succintly defiant I also miss âaneinander vorbei redenâ = âto talk past each otherâ, meaning when people are completely missing each otherâs points / talking about two different things. Itâs such nice imagery.
And we call stupid people âHans Wurstâ = âHans Sausageâ (no matter if you are boy or a girl)
Yeah, if we are surprised we say âHolla die Waldfeeâ = âHolla the forest fairyâ
Seriously though, how do children grow up without âdochâ und âtrotzdemâ?
Holy mackerel I love this soooo!!
Cursing in German is the best c: Aufâs Fressbrett kriegen is my favourite, literally means âto [hit] someone on his faceplankâ. Or âich traue den Braten nichtâ âi donât trust the roastâ when you donât trust a situation. Haltâs Maul/Halt die Fresse for shut up. In dem Sinne, alles klar.
Your past mistakes do not define or taint your future success
