“I loved you first,” Jimin says, his breathing a mess at this point as he can barely hold back the tears that are starting to choke him painfully. “This isn’t fair.”
Jungkook doesn’t even look at Jimin — he can’t really bring himself to, because the sight of Jimin crying always, always do horrible things to his heart and to know that this time round he’s the cause of it, to know that this time round he can’t do anything to stop Jimin from crying, Jungkook doesn’t let himself look at him.
He knows just one look and the image’s going to haunt him for days. For weeks.
“I don’t need you to be sorry, Jungkook.” Jimin half-snaps in amidst of his tears, his hands shaking as he raises them to wipe at his eyes furiously like he’s still trying to put up a strong front in front of Jungkook despite how drastic the situation already is. You can just cry, Jungkook wanted to say, but he thinks he doesn’t have the rights to tell Jimin what to do anymore. “I just—”
Need you to choose me, need you to come back, need you to not go, Jungkook thinks he hears those in the long stretch of silence Jimin allows to seep in instead of finishing his sentence, and finds his own heart crumbling at how broken the other’s starting to sound (and if he already is hurting like this, he can’t imagine how much worse the pain Jimin’s going through right now is).
“You can’t do this,” Jimin settles for instead, his voice sounding so small, yet so broken that Jungkook’s heart clenches down uncomfortably. “This isn’t fair, Jungkook.”
“I’m doing this so that things can be fair for you, Jimin— you shouldn’t still be with me. I’ve been—” The word unfaithful sits uncomfortably heavy on Jungkook’s tongue, making it impossible for him to even admit the mistake he’s been committing for months (and he knows he can’t keep this going on anymore). “This isn’t working out.”
“Only because you chose him,” Jimin breathes out after a long while and buries his face into his hands, looking utterly defeated and exhausted at where he’s sitting, on the loveseat Jungkook remembers picking out with Jimin together just a year ago. “You chose him, Jungkook.”
Jungkook doesn’t answer Jimin — can’t bring himself to deny it.
“Jungkook I—” Loved you first, had you first. “Trusted you.”
The reminder of how Jimin didn’t believe in Hoseok when the older male found out about Jungkook’s change of heart months ago just sinks the atmosphere into something that hurts even more because god, of course Jimin trusted him.
Jimin trusted him too much.
“But you’re choosing him—”
Jungkook finally looks at Jimin then, just in time to see how red his boyfriend’s eyes are, already swollen and wet with tears he has been trying to blink back ever since Jungkook insisted that they talked instead of avoiding to discuss about their relationship that’s deteriorating rapidly. Jimin looks hurt, so fucking hurt, and Jungkook’s the cause of it.
“I’m choosing him,” Jungkook reaffirms quietly and Jimin closes his eyes right then, jaw clenched tightly as he finally lets tears spill across his cheeks freely. “I’m so sorry—”
“This isn’t fair,” It’s all Jimin can bring himself to say that moment as he plasters a hand over his eyes, breathing in and out roughly like he’s trying to stop himself from breaking into a pathetic crying mess. “I loved you first.”
