"The Beginning" Many of you have asked me if I was still going to be racing Western with my recent injury. I didn't have time to get a full MRI, but honestly it doesn't matter what the report showed because I'm starting this race no matter what! I've had so many of you reach out to offer support and encouragement and have been buoyed up by all of your encouragement and confidence in what's possible. It'll be a long day, but I'm going to give it all I have. Pray for shade!! 🔥🔥🤒

Lately I've been feeling overwhelmed. Family will always be my top priority which also encompasses my faith, making sure I'm doing my best in my professional career takes another massive amount of my focus, and I put what's left into the things I love doing which usually ends up being some sort of endurance challenge. This year I feel like all three areas are stretching me to my snapping point all at once. Yesterday's run which included 9 miles up the mountain at the hottest time of the day to see Oz the Great and Powerful (radar towers for those who don't know the reference) was a good bit of hay to put in the barn. 3 weeks will come sooner than I'm ready for. The Grand Slam of Ultra is probably more than I'm ready for. A lot of things in my life are probably more than I'm ready for. And that's what makes a beautiful life. (at Francis Peak)
One of the best has gone to rest
Some days it's pretty amazing to see what your body can give you. Just over 10 miles up and down the mountain at an 8:25 pace coming off the Grand Canyon rim to rim to rim was way more than I thought I had in the tank. Slowly building some much needed confidence for the 11 week battle that starts June 25th! #grandslamofultra (at Mueller Park Canyon and Trail)
My favorite scar. I've had it since I was 7 years old when I used my dad's pocket knife to open a Christmas present and accidentally sliced my thumb wide open. I vividly remember the searing pain of the blade, then the rush of blood. I was almost certain at the time that I had cut my thumb off. I recall running into my dad's arms, him picking me up, and then me staring at the wound as I clasped my hands around his neck with my head on his shoulder. I was hurt and frightened. The only thing in the world that held me together and made me feel comforted in that moment was my dad's warm and strong embrace, along with his assurance that everything would be ok. Throughout my life I have been fortunate to feel that embrace and hear those words whenever I was scared or hurt. I look at this scar often as it reminds me how much we all need someone to make us feel that comfort. Today I see my dad scared and hurt, more so than ever before. All I want to do is hold him and offer the same assurance.
