it being August tomorrow has me experiencing that specific kind of "summer is almost over" fomo sadness and it's the worsttttt. bitch you got like two months of decent outside plants time left and fall is also good and enjoyable and I have plans for more home renovation stuff this fall/winter and little beach trip at the end of september and still time to kayak and hike and such. why am I stressing

The summer I was thirteen, right around the end of July / start of August, my neighbor and his dad came down to our farm to do some Tractor Stuff in the evening. When we were finished, and they were walking across the driveway in the dusk, his dad said, "Them katydids are a-hollerin'"

and it nearly killed me on the spot

because the bugs DO have an end-of-summer song and back-to-school IS just around the corner and it hit so hard. Never forgot it. I've passed through many different life stages since then, but it always haunts me when the katydids start hollerin'.

Jeeves went to his first dressage show today! And his judge was also a mule judge, and she was so excited to see him - she gave us the names of the donkey/mule/mini shows she judges at and encouraged us to come.

Jeevie was great; we did have a slight issue when he left the ring at A ("We're done, right?) but it was a schooling show so I got an error instead of dq'd, amd I laughed through the rest of the test. My test reader was also cracking up. It was a blast.
