hey! this is my sideblog for music and my thoughts on it. reviews are sorted as below:

Album Club- I will be, as much as I am able, listening in each day to the album for Friend of The Band's Album Club

Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time- I'll be following the 2023 list, starting from 500 and counting up

New Release- New Release albums, likely from artists I'm already into, or maybe not!

Weezer Club- My friends and I listen to one Weezer album a week and discuss it like a book club

Other Reviews- What it says on the tin, misc

I'll be adding links to sort by release decade as well after I accumulate more posts!

Nick of Time ~ Bonnie Raitt

RS 500 Greatest Albums of All Time #492

Year of Release: 1989

Rating: 7.25/10

Genre: Americana, rock, blues rock

Vibes: The radio crackles on an old wooden stool in the brick alley behind an old diner, somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. You lean back on the wall, your feet tired from a shift rushing around on them. Next to you, the middle aged waitress, the one with a thick yet indistinct southern accent, the one that calls everyone baby and sweetheart but always genuinely, the one that will put the fear of God into the hearts of any customer that is rude to the younger servers- smokes a cigarette and gazes off into nowhere in particular. The radio only tunes to AM, blues crackle through it with the signal distorting the guitars in a way that feels like home. The older waitress tells you tidbits of her life, the things she's done and seen, the hearts she's broken and been broken by, all between long drags of the cigarette.

Overall Thoughts: I enjoyed this album! Its not something I would typically reach for on my own, but it was certainly an interesting listen! I especially liked the title track, there was something in it that, despite the frightfully relatable lyrics, felt comforting. Not something I'll probably listen to much after on my own but I am glad I gave it a few spins here.

Etudes for Piano Vol 1 No. 1-10 ~ Philip Glass

Album Club 3/29/26

Year of Release: 2001

Rating: 7/10

Genre: Classical

Vibes: A gentle meditation

Overall Thoughts: This blog's first review of a classical piece! This is a nice relaxing album, played solely on piano. I'm not uber familiar with Glass and his work beyond knowing he does score for film and television often, but I enjoyed this. It is a bit simple, but that lends to the beauty. Unfortunately I have conditioned myself for classical music like this to be study music, so the entire time I was listening to this I had a Pavlovian urge to look at a Google Doc, so thank you for the productivity Mr Glass!
