Top Gun Month 2026
Hello everyone! This is an official announcement for Top Gun Week 2026, a fandom-wide event celebrating all things about our favorite naval aviation movies! It takes place from May 1 to May 31st to celebrate the 40th anniversary since Top Gun (1986) came out!
What is Top Gun Month?
A month celebrating the creators and fans of the classic franchise, Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick through all things fanworks!
To participate, you create a new fanwork and post it during the month of May. You must tag this blog or tag the post "top gun month 2026". The work must contain characters or locations from Top Gun or Top Gun: Maverick. Original characters are allowed, but the focus should be on existing characters or the OCs relationship with existing characters. Other fandoms may be used as crossovers, but Top Gun should be the primary fandom.
What types of fanworks are included?
Any! Fic, art, moodboards, gifs, playlists, headcannons, edits, rants - anything you can think of! AUs are also allowed. I just ask that the work is new, or at least has not been shared publically before.
If you are posting art, it is not required, but would be helpful if alt text is added!
If you are posting a fic, you can link to AO3 or post it on tumblr. If it's in ao3, please add it to the collection!!!
What if I don't have any ideas?
Don't worry, there's prompts for that! Each day of the month will have both a general prompt and a character prompt. Feel free to mix and match prompts! You do not have to follow the prompts if you don't want to, they're just to get your creativity going! (Prompts can be found here)
What type of pairings are allowed and what is not allowed?
Any! Both shipping (romantic) works and gen (platonic) works are allowed! This includes x reader and OC ships, however the work should contain at least one canon character in order to keep the focus on the primary media!
Please note, for the comfort of everyone involved, works containing incest ships or adult/minor ships will not be allowed (unless it’s within a couple years). Aged-up ships are fine.
Also, this should be already a given but NO AI!!! If AI is used in one of your fanworks, I will refuse to reblog it or affliate it with TGM26.
