Writing
‘Write drunk, edit sober.’ This popular quote is often attributed to Ernest Hemingway since, you know, he was happy to have a drink or two.” (Phillip Greene, Dec 16, daily Beast, 2021)

Author Updates
Here you can find updates about me, Victoria Caplan.
As well as,
New and intriguing artists, and things I find inspiring for my creative endeavors.

And we’re off
Just submitted a short-story for a local writing competition. Which means that now, I shall pretend I never did anything, wallow in shame, and continue to self doubt. What a fun way to spend my weekend
This photo, taken in 1994 by Christopher Burkett. Many gallery websites provide an opportunity to see or purchase a print, but the websites are no longer active. Either the website isn’t used anymore, or this photo isn’t available there.
There is, however, this wonderful little treasure of a website that looks like it hasn’t been updated since 1994 http://www.photographywest.com/pages/burkett_photos.html.
Enjoy the collection of photographs on Christopher West gallery. The photos remind me of landscapes my grandfather painted. Simple elements of nature, without specific emotions or motives, existence set to remain regardless of how the landscape has changed over the years.
A wonderful blog post, written by the artist I believe, detailing the experience of capturing the photo and his journey to find the landscape https://christopherburkett.com/print/sunrise-autumn-blueberries
This image started it all. It is one of the first images I added to the moodboard for my series “Myths of the Immortals”, I don’t remember how I found it, and the internet isn’t helping. I found a tumblr that edited the image, but it didn’t post the source of the original. I could get this image from the plethora of Wattpad novel covers, but also not helpful in finding a source.
If we all agreed to mark art for the pleasure of it, and not for money, I wouldn’t care as much about finding a source. Sometimes I feel like this is the natural state of many artists, but alas that is not the world we live in. I don’t feel comfortable using someone’s art without giving them credit (in this capitalistic hellscape we call home), so I will have to do more work finding a source or say goodbye to a beautiful image.

Spotify Rewind
My Spotify rewind is just a collection of the songs I’ve listened to on repeat while I write
Tinyeye likes to think this image came from an article by National Geographics about the first thanksgiving, but the article doesn’t seem to exists (as far as I can tell). Alas, the image has no source
La moisson (The Harvest)1883Léon Lhermitte
This is me, attempting to put together the moldboard for the second book in my series, Myths of the Immortals, title pending so #Myths2, here goes nothing.
Enter Leon Lhermitte, a French naturalist painter and etcher whose primary subject matter was rural scenes depicting peasants at work. Wikipedia
See this painting at Kemper Art Museum, at Washington University in Saint Louis Missouri, USA
Editing
I’ve finished my rough edit of the second book in my series, Myths of the Immortals, and a piece of me has died. Now I will begin the arduous journey of planning the funerial, purchasing a headstone, and remembering to place flowers on it’s grave. Wish me luck
