Time is strange.
Sometimes it feels like time flies and then sometimes it feels like time is eternal. We all say these things when in reality time stays at a consistent pace no matter what is going on. And furthermore time doesn't actually exist. Seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, centuries, millenniums, eras, they aren't real. We made them up.
Time is strange.
Because we created it and don't completely understand how it works. We often wish we had more of it, we often wish we had less of it. The fact is though, that time keeps going whether you want it to or not. That's the one thing we do know.

But the 80 minute class you're in will end, Friday is on its way, 2015 will turn into 2016, you will turn 70 one day, and you will die one day and time will lose its meaning to you. But through that entire journey and process you'll never fully understand why...

Can I be frank with you
In the case of the incredible injustices in Congo, there really is no way of sugar coating the horror there. George Washington Williams understood that, he also understood that being completely honest and blunt in his letter to Leopold would be the only way his letter would lead to actual change.
With the use of persuasion techniques and the truth, Williams crafts a letter that starts a fire burning in anyone that reads it, causing shock and awe.
One thing Williams does not forget throughout the letter is to be respectful to Leopold, as well as embedding a few insults in a respectful and blameful way. Blameful in that he makes sure Leopold knows that everything happening in Congo is his responsibility to control; "You have named its officers, created its laws, furnished its finances, and every act of the Government has been clothed with the majesty of your authority." (page 122) He slyly insults Leopold, "your flag floats over territory to which yourMajesty has no legal or just claim." (page 121) He especially remains respectful at the start of his letter; "I have the honour to submit for your Majesty's consideration some reflections respecting the Independent State of Congo" (page 120) as well as at the end, "I subscribe myself your Majesty's humble and obedient servant." (page 131), he makes sure he recognizes the fact that Leopold is higher and more honorable than Williams.
The organization and structure of the letter further adds to the persuasiveness of the letter. Particularly the introduction of the charges Williams makes to the government, he organizes them well as well as adding a lot of them, twelve. Every charge is thoroughly explained and with evidence of some sort.
Williams does a great job of painting a picture for Leopold to see the truth of what is going on in Congo, through his great description. For example, "These ox-chains eat into the necks of the prisoners and produce sores about which flies circle, aggravating the running wound…These poor creatures are frequently beaten with a dried piece of hippopotamus skin, and usually the blood flows at every stroke when laid on." (page 126-127) Williams aims to put Leopold in discomfort by having him picture what he described, leading to infuriation and therefore some sort of change.
Williams creates the ultimate letter with proper evidence, great diction, wonderful organization, and most importantly pure truth.

I understand yet don't understand 'what is up with love'.
I am part of the majority that doesn't quite understand love. I do know that it's an incredible feeling, action, expression, desire, necessity…etc. Yet I do not understand how it has so much power. Although love is sometimes said to be a simple thing, it is NOT. Loving someone is liberating and beautiful but it is not simple at all. In literature love is expressed in various forms; positive, negative, as a burden, painful, confusing, fearful, invigorating, fulfilling…etc. Love is something we all experience in our lives whether we're the lovers or lovees(let's pretend it's a word), therefore it is something we all want to talk about. A way that love is talked about is through literature, writers often go deep into the concept of love and try to find the meaning or try to understand why love is.
Everyone has their own approach and viewpoints towards love but the one thing that is agreeable about love is that it is needed. Whether it causes pain or joy, love is necessary and everyone hopes to attain it. Let's appreciate the existence of such a powerful thing.
The best way I express myself is through songs, lyrics play a major role when I observe a song. I find song lyrics to be like literature, more similar to poems usually but definitely containing literary methods. These songs probably only make up 0.67% of love songs created but I believe they reveal a little bit about love in general:

My Time, Your Time, Their Time, Our Time
We live in a time where we are constantly exposed. Violence, Sex, Change is constantly exposed to all of us. Not much is withheld from us (I'm talking about America specifically). Don't think I'm being naïve, I know that there's A LOT our government keeps us in the dark about and I know that supposedly the pope has the secret to the end of the world and does not reveal it to the world and I know the CIA has major insight about world criminals and I know that even my mom has many secrets she doesn't tell me. However when I say not much is being withheld from us, I mean that information about pretty much anything is literally at our finger tips. If I want to know about the 12 people that were killed in France, I can just google it and be immensely informed about the terrible crime. If I want to know how to properly cook Peach Cobbler, I can watch a video on youtube and become a pro at making Peach Cobbler in an hour. If I want to know the name of an actor from a movie or tv show I can attain his whole biography in a matter of seconds.
I believe our era won't necessarily be known as the 'technological era' but rather the era that is informed and aware. There are many self-centered people in the world that do not care about what goes on anywhere else but their Instagram page but we all have the ability to learn and become informed about any topic and most people do use that to their advantage.
The amount of exposure we have at times is a bit scary or too intense but it's also beautiful. It's beautiful in the sense that our freedom is maintained. Don't get me wrong, I dislike Carls Jr commercials with half nude perfectly tan super fit celebrities, as much as the next person, but I respect the fact that Carls Jr has the freedom to advertise their burgers in that way. And if there's someone who doesn't like the commercials then that person has the freedom to take a stand against Carls Jr's advertisement techniques.
I believe there's no doubt our era will be misunderstood by people because we might be viewed as lazy, shallow, and narcissistic, but I do believe that we will be seen as an era that was passionate, caring, active, and charitable, because when I look at the world around me, that's what I see.

There's one word that's very difficult for me to say or even think about.
I hate thinking about other's possible reactions if I say it to them.
They could cry, be disappointed, hate me, never talk to me, scream at me, feel disgust towards me, punch me...
In all reality they might just say "Oh that's alright Tori" or "Not a Problem" or "There's always next time" but still I feel like I disappoint others.
I always think that people expect more from me or believe I'm always reliable but I'm slowly realizing that I'm the one that expects that from myself, if I don't do something that'll please others than I am displeased.
To the point where I can't say this simple word. To the point where I cringe when I think about looking at someone straight in their eyes and simply saying, no.
