i have this sweater (i am actually wearing it rn!) and i was like hm i canât decide if its giving me wylan or jesper then i was like. jesper definitely brought it but wylan stole it.
In fact, as soon as Drydenâs note had arrived requesting a meeting, several investors had been invited to a presentation on Zemeni oil futures that had nothing to do with the fictional Johannus Rietveld. Of course, Van Eck and Dryden didnât know that. The important thing was they believed they might lose their opportunity to invest. Nina was almost sorry she wouldnât get a chance to hear Jesper hold forth on the resources market for an hour.Â
  âRadmakker,â said Van Eck. âYou were there. You met with Rietveld.â   Radmakkerâs nostrils flared.
 âI know nothing of this Mister Rietveld.â
âBut I saw you. We both saw you at the Geldrunner-â
 âI was there for a presentation on Zemeni oil futures. It was most peculiar, but what of it?â
hello yes I am still obsessed with imagining Jesper giving this presentation in Crooked Kingdom, had to draw it.Â
-his favorite monster is the light pink one (ultra strawberry dreams)
-when he doesn't feel like articulating entire sentences into his phone he sends strings of emojis that everyone else has to figure out
-he's actually very well read because he listens to a bunch of audiobooks because he used to believe it could maybe make up for his dyslexia to his father, and then realized he actually just enjoys them
-he crochets
-after they start dating Jesper buys himself the kinds of sweaters that Wylan likes so Wylan can steal his and still like the clothes
-wears converse and paints them
-for their one year anniversary he took the pairs of shoes that he and Jesper wore on their first date and painted a lil matching design on them
-hates writing essays (obvi) but his argumentative essays are incredible
-everyone thinks that he doesnt really curse but once you get to know him it becomes clear very quickly that he actually curses like a sailor
-purposefully bombs his chair tests because he doesnt wanna be first chair
-hes that one kid thats like four grades ahead in math but then you ask him what his english grade is and he just side eyes you hard
-not in theater because his bitch of a father didnt think it was "respectable" but he was the first to volunteer to play in the pit for musicals
-eventually Jesper convinces him to go behind his back and try out for the musical (because its open to everyone) and Wylan absolutely slays it and gets the lead
-gets a job at a craft store or a local coffee shop
-wears a few rings and they're all fidget rings
-does not have tiktok but his instagram feed is comprised of videos about the most random shit (one is explaining very complex math/science and then the next is one of those reddit videos) and very cute animals (lots of snakes. LOTS of snakes)
-when he first meets Kaz he asks him if hes any good at chemistry and Wylan's response is "it wasn't the entire room, it was just one table. and it didn't even catch fire, it's just permanently scorched."
-was forced to play lacrosse by his dad and the crows remind him of it constantly

It was interesting trying to work with a simpler style than I'm used to.

1) Chunky cosy knit jumper that says no mourners no funerals
2) Jumper with a boat on it and underneath it says berth 22. And if thereâs enough space then it would either say Ferolind or Wraith on the side of the boat.
3) Six tiny plush ghosts, and then you display five on one shelf and one on the other because his ghosts isnât associating with their ghosts (I think Iâm really funny)
4) Izzy dolls of different characters!!!! I think these would be so freaking cute
5) Okay this one is one Iâve already made but I donât think Iâve ever talked about it on here so: scarves in kefta designs!! I made a healer one for myself and a durast one for my bestie and I love them sm. This was early in my colourwork journey (and when I say early I mean it, weâre talking about a time where I drew up rough charts with highlighters on square-paged sticky notes and then just went for it) so they arenât works of art but I still love them

It's been over a month since your manager was possessed by a demon. Yet, instead of fetching the nearest priest or throwing a bucket of holy water at them, you and your coworkers have just rolled with it, as the demon is WAY more bearable to work under.
This late at night thereâs only one lantern on. Itâs the one on his desk, and itâs burning rather low. Wylan taps his pen gently against the back of his knuckles, eyes scanning down a long list of numbers.Â
His head is a chorus of Jesperâs spoken words. Top to bottom â for fifteen pages so far â he checks the costs of their household expenses. Everything adds up so far, which is a small mercy. His afternoon was spent trying to flip through all his filed receipts to find a missing charge.Â
(He had found it, eventually; five and quarter kruge for two coffees and a biscuit. A business expense, allegedly, although if Wylan remembers correctly he had bought it for Inej.)Â Â Â
Itâs anyoneâs guess what hour it is. At a certain point the Geldrennerâs bell stops chiming, but Wylan can never remember what it is. All he knows is that the open window behind him has only brought the quiet of a summer night in. Perhaps it just hasnât chimed the final hour. It likely has.Â
He scratches his jaw. He should probably shave. He should probably trim his nails. He should probably do a lot of things.Â
Thereâs far too much to do.Â
This is what he should have expected his life to be. This is what he was born for; this is his birthright. Stealing it out from the hands of a man that paid to have him killed doesnât change the dull, gritty truth of what it is to be a member of the Merchant Council, or the head of an empire. Life for Wylan is, and was always going to be, long lists of costs and tax fees. The only difference is that now his papers are colour coded for him to make sense of them.Â
âWylan.â
He lifts his head and immediately winces. Thereâs a stiff crick in his neck; how long has he been staring at his papers? He blinks a few times, trying to clear his cloudy vision.Â
Jesper watches from the doorway. Heâs in a cardigan thatâs far too big for him, sleeves unrolled and drooping at his elbows. His arms are crossed tight over his chest, like heâs cold. Wylan shivers; heâs cold, too. He rubs a tired hand over his eye.Â
âIâll come to bed in a second,â he says. Jesper leans to the side, resting his shoulder against the door frame. During the day, heâs taken to wearing glittery pigment along his eyes. Itâs off, now, but heâs just as bright. He looks sleepy, though.Â
Wylan yawns.Â
âDo you know what time it is?"
âI mean it, Jesper. Only a second. I just have one more page.âÂ
Slowly, Jesper walks his way across the room. Wylan looks back down at his reports. The numbers have started to swim again. One more cup of tea, maybe. Thatâll do it. Then he can go to sleepâ for a little bit, at least. He has an early meeting, but when doesnât he?Â
With no noise or fuss, Jesper shuts the window behind Wylan, and turns it shut with a click. Then he sits on the arm of Wylanâs broad mahogany chair and kisses the very top of his head. When he runs fingers through Wylanâs hair, itâs gentle, and kind.Â
Jesper kisses his head one more time. âNo. I want you to come to bed, though.âÂ
âIâm not in the mood forâŠâ Wylan trails off. When Jesper brushes all of his hair out of his face to kiss the soft skin of his forehead, he lets his eyes flutter shut. âMm.â
âNo sex,â Jesper promises. âJust come to bed. Please?âÂ
Softly, Wylan hums. âAnd I really canât just finish this page?â
Jesper sighs, but heâs smiling. âYouâre going to hurt your eyes if you keep reading in the dark.â
He pushes himself onto the desk, though, taking the papers out from beneath Wylanâs resting fingers. Wylan doesnât protest. He just sits back in his chair and lets the warm note of Jesperâs voice start to wash over him. His eyes slip shut, heavy and aching. Slowly, he breathes.Â
