so I used to have like this Mateo x Rufus shrine in my therapists office (they were fine with it obviously) that I started in like freshman year where I’d find pieces of fanart and send them over to them which took like a couple years to do.
the only reason I bring this up is because from collecting images I’ve noticed some people draw Mateo either a light tan or white and I was wondering…why?
1. most people saw rufus as light brown and mateo as pretty much white. that's how they were implied to be colored in the book
2. once the fandom started agreeing that rufus is black and mateo is brown, some people thought "fuck that!!!!" and continued drawing them lightskinned WHICH PISSES ME OFF idk abiut you guys though

i feel like a lot of people can't handle seeing a cis male character acting feminine so they headcanon him as trans 😭 it kinda just feels like it's pushing gender roles. in a way it feels a little transphobic too?? like oh he acts female so surely he's trans.. like it just kinda feels like you still see them as female since they act feminine
