Tldr Amnesty International, global human rights organisation, published a report called 'A growing threat: the anti-rights movement in the UK'. In it is detailed, amongst others, a whole bunch of transphobic groups and organisations, including Beira's Place, JK Rowling's trans exclusionary sexual violence support service. JK Rowling threw a shit fit and got Amnesty to take the report down by threatening libel. This was obviously not enough, because you can't appease a fascist, so now she's going to bankroll a bunch of lawsuits anyway through the JK Rowling Women's Fund.*

It often seems to me that the modern Western world is a bit unreasonable about the concept of death. Death itself is the same as it ever was, of course--hand-in-hand with life, but always one step behind. In previous times, before modern medicine and all the other innovations of the last hundred years, people could not ignore it. It took children in winter and people who got cut on rusty nails or bitten by animals. It was as close as a lover, every minute of every day.
There's this imaginary distance I notice sometimes, though. I mention my own inevitable death, or someone else's, or that itchy, faint desire to do away with someone I hate (it passes, I'm no murderer), and to some people it's like I spat in their eye. Why would I talk about death! Who wants to consider death at all!! People don't die, they just go to the farm upstate! You shouldn't have yucky thoughts like that!
Cats and crew I hate to say it but death is only as far away as the thickness of highway lane paint. It's in the centimeter you missed the top stair by, and it's that ancient urge that makes your hand twitch when someone abuses you for the nth time.
Far less people die of harsh winters or tetanus these days, but that doesn't change the immutable fact of death's inconquerability. It's never going to retreat or give in, and I should be allowed to talk about that without getting dirty looks.
