Every time I pick up the manga I'm reminded of how skillful Horikoshi is as a manga artist. There's certainly some complaints to be made in regards to stakes throughout the series... (there's usually not much follow through when it comes to lasting harm impacting the characters) however the formatting and presentation of all the characters and scenes are incredible. There's visible thought put into every detail.

Additionally, I gotta respect the guy for the level of self-indulgence put into the series as well, especially in the beginning (also- it's more visible and commented on in the manga). Like, yeah, one of the best parts of being a freak and an artist is having fun with it. I love to see an artist indulge themselves through their work.
