Jim Morrison, Miami 1969.
I was doing time In the universal mind I was feeling fine I was turning keys I was setting people free I was doing all right
Then you came along With a suitcase and a song Turned my head around Now I'm so alone Just looking for a home In every place I see
I'm the freedom man!

Jim Morrison of The Doors at the Northern California Folk Rock Festival, San Jose, May 1968.
Jim Morrison in 1967:
He had the intelligence to know that madness leads to more madness. And it had no constructive end to it, in that he could come out the other side and say, âI proved somethingâ or âI did something.â That would be courageous to know that at the end of it all was just madness, death and destruction. Maybe he was emulating Rimbaudâs theory that a disarrangement of the senses leads to... But I donât think Rimbaud was like that, I think Rimbaud was misunderstood. I think Jim was maybe emulating the popular belief of what Rimbaud did: âRimbaudâs Legendâ you might say. Jim might have been reliving that, but Rimbaud didnât live up to his legend.

âI didn't love Jim Morrison 'cause he was self-destructive. I loved him because of his work. Because of the way he merged poetry and rock 'n' roll.â â Patti Smith

Please, believe me The river told me Very softly Want you to hold me, ooh Free fall flow, river flow On and on it goes Breathe under water âtil the end Free fall flow, river flow On and on it goes Breathe under water âtil the end Yes, the river knows Please, believe me If you donât need me Iâm going, but I need a little time I promised I would drown myself In mysticated wine
