This is about the DreamSMP’s current events.
Please know that I am currently showing my Dream apologist state out of my everyone apologist personality, so take this with a grain of salt. I do not mean to bash any character here, but sorry if it comes out that way. I am merely criticizing how they acted on Dream’s deaths.
So, you remember how Dream got killed twice?
Yeah. I feel like the way that it happened was kinda fucked up, even for DreamSMP standards.
So, yes, you can ask me why. You can say that it was deserved, or that it was the heat of the moment, but it still gives them no right to have done it like that. Even for Tommy, who probably deserved the chance to kill Dream the most, was that such a low to stoop. Now, let’s see the circumstances of Tommy’s and Dream’s death.
Tommy died twice, both with fair circumstances. He died once to being killed in the Final Control Room, then another to a fair bow duel, with both Tommy and Dream unarmoured and at half a heart. Dream never, and I mean never, killed Tommy when he had a very unfair advantage.
Dream, on the other hand, died twice with the same, brutal circumstances. He was killed in front of most of the SMP members, unarmed each time, with almost a zero chance of being able to get himself out of the situation, and for the most part dehumanized, with the only reason he was even spared what could possibly be his last life was the value he holds when still alive. Not because of any morals, for the most part, but because of the simple fact that he knew how to resurrect Wilbur. He even had to beg for people to listen to him at all. You can go back to the stream if you want to know if Dream was begging. I am sure that he did, but it might be hard over all the talking. If you manage to hear it, you can hear how desperate it sounds. Take it as you will, but he had to beg for them to not kill him again, saying that he’d be good and that it was enough punishment. That was what I hear, but it may vary per person on what he said.
As I said, even if it was deserved or in the heat of the moment, there was no reason for it to have been so unfair. They could have just killed Dream when there were less people and give the man a bit more dignity. That, in terms of everything that happened, was a very, very low moral stoop. Even Schlatt was on a higher moral when he ordered Tubbo to be executed. He only did it once, and didn’t even say anything about taking another life. This sort of makes it on a lower moral scale than Schlatt’s.
If you say that ‘Tubbo was about to be killed unfairly too, though!’, then consider the fact that he at least had some space to speak. Again, the only reason I think Dream is not dead currently is because he begged for them to not kill him, to listen to him and they found how valuable he was when alive, not the fact that they wanted to spare him. Tell me, right now, that they wouldn’t have killed him on, what possibly would and could be and they assumed were, his last life, even if he didn’t tell them about the resurrection ability. I am very sure that, with how they acted after Dream told them about it, they definitely would have. Nobody, and I mean nobody, not even Schlatt, Wilbur or even Dream, deserves to have their last life taken, especially like that. It’s bad enough that we have 2 characters dead, without any sort of possible redemption arc to have made
This, I think, goes on to be one of the most morally fucked up deaths that have ever happened, even with Tubbo’s execution. I don’t really care who you’re an apologist for, and I don’t care if you support Dream’s deaths, but, again, even with how much you think he deserved it, you can not excuse or justify fully the dehumanization that was happening, how low they morally stooped, and how fucked up in more ways than one it was. Yes, Tommy may have died to Dream’s hands twice or only once, but there was never a time where the cards were played very unfairly.
Everyone in the place of execution have some blame on them. It was fucked up either way you look at it. Nobody should be perma-killed without at least a chance of redemption, and I personally believe that if the circumstances had been slightly different, there would be a big possibility that Dream might have perma-died in the chamber. I’m sure that, had Wilbur and Schlatt been given a last chance at redemption, they could have stayed and become better people.
Am I sympathizing for Dream’s character and the way he died? Yes, as this is my interpretation of being an apologist.
Am I condoning or justifying his actions? No, a lot of them were unreasonable, but some of his more earlier ones are more understandable.
Am I bashing the other characters? No, but I am criticizing their poor choice of morals when it came to killing anyone, as it was arguably more fucked up than Dream’s standards when killing someone canonically.
Are your opinions valid? Yes, as long as you’re not toxic about it. I just don’t like when people absolutely bash a character when their character has also been or are also in the wrong, even more so when they become toxic and hateful because of it.
Anyways, share this if you must with other people. I just wanted to vent my frustrations because nearly nobody was saying how fucked up the morals were at that time. I saw a tweet with the same idea, and I whole-heartedly agree with the fact that the deaths were fucked up.
