It took me a few days to reflect and process last year. In thinking about 2015, the word full most accurately represents those 12 months from January to December.Â
2015 was full of travel. From a conference in South Carolina, to a large Nazarene youth gathering in Kentucky, to a road-trip to Oregon and Washington, to a summer in Texas, to trainings in Indianapolis, to visiting friends in KC...I was in 16 states over the course of 2015! Looking back on it all, I realize the amazing experiences that these travels afforded me. Some highlights of these trips included:
-meeting Nina Gunter (if you don’t know who this is, it is ok. You just aren’t as much of a Nazarene nerd as I am.)
-discovering the lovely coffee scene of KC, MO
-walking along the Oregon coast with a good friend
-breaking the Ramadan fast with a Burmese family
-speaking Spanish and eating homemade enchiladas
-helping a friend get ready for her wedding
-attending another friend’s wedding
2015 was also full of confirmation. I entered 2015 still doubting my call to full-time ministry. I felt disqualified to preach, teach, or be a spiritual leader. Yet, 2015 affirmed:
-God’s giftings and graces in my life
-how much I had grown spiritually, emotionally, mentally, physically, and relationally
-my next steps in pursuing an Mdiv and ordination in the Church of the Nazarene
2015 was full of surprises. Some of these were good surprises. Some of these surprises were difficult and devastating. These surprises included:
-being chosen as a junior/senior RA
-having my best friend visit for my birthday
-unexpected, painful circumstances at my school
-self-realizations that meant walking the hard path of forgiveness
2015 was so full. And while part of me hopes that 2016 is a little less eventful, I am thankful for the ways that I was able to live fully in 2015, as I learned to fully embrace joys and sorrows, loving more fully along the way.Â
