Team ānot actually oblivious to flirting, just terrified of appearing presumptuousā represent.
āYes, in the balance of consideration this personās behaviour could certainly be interpreted as flirtatious, but it would be purest arrogance for me to just assume they actually meant what they said. I should gather more evidence. Forever.ā
iām so sick of sequel and spin-off culture. sometimes stories are just over and thatās ok. thereās nothing more unsatisfying to me than when a story has a complete narrative that works well and then a sequel comes out.
Food is meant to be enjoyed. It is not solely about nutrition. Itās also an joyful, social, cultural experience. You deserve to eat for the sake of enjoyment.
I love it when the unreliable narrator begins to trip and reveal the flaws in their story and themself. I cannot explain how much I adore them. The moment you realize that "wait, something is not right" and start to rethink the whole book is the absolute best thing to happen to you while reading. You just know the reread will be even better.
Life among the treesā¦.
one of the best ways iāve found to combat that inherent depressive pessimism without veering into toxic positivity territory is simply the phrase āiām open to the possibilityā
this particularly works with anything negative iāve forecasted. āi woke up feeling like shit today, so my day is gonna suckā isnāt a particularly helpful thought, but āitās a great day to be alive!!!!!ā feels hollow and insincere when i have a pounding headache & am running on three hours of sleep
instead iāll tell myself, āi really donāt feel good right now, but iām open to the possibility that coffee and breakfast might perk me up a bit.ā or āiām in a lot of pain today, but iām open to the possibility that my workday might still have fun parts despite thatā
sometimes, when your impulse is to slam the door on anything good, but youāre not exactly up to going out & hunting it down yourself, leaving the door open just a crack makes all the difference
The Pomegranate Trees, William Saroyan
Honestly I think one of the most empowering things you can do for yourself is to separate your negative qualities from your identity.
Instead of saying āIām lazy,ā saying āIāve made a habit of not doing work unless itās absolutely necessary.ā Instead of saying āIām a bad friend,ā saying āI havenāt communicated as much as I should with the people I care about.ā
By being specific about your problems, and by framing it as an action that you are consciously either working on or ignoring rather than an unchangeable part of who you are, you allow yourself to accept your mistakes and work constructively on them instead of pretending they didnāt happen or wallowing in blaming yourself.
No no you don't understand! I want to watch this show/movie, read this book, listen to this podcast, etc.! But I must be in the right mindset and the exact head space to begin, or I just can't!

okay but "the symbolism is Real and Trying to Kill You" is my favorite kind of symbolism
like yeah the monster is a representation of your unresolved trauma and guilt and a manifestation of the sins of your past but it's also a real creature and it's going to fucking Get you
The best thing for being sad⦠is to learn something. That is the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake in the middle of the night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world around you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it thenāto learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting.
āT. H. White, The Sword in the Stone, in The Once and Future King
