Hey everyone! I’m making this post because I don’t wanna keep you all in the dark on my feelings.
Basically, I’m burnt out on this blog and I wanna do other things.
I’m getting tired making polls for characters and franchises that I don’t know/care for. I also want to focus more on developing my art skills so I want more time to do that. It sucks feeling like this because I have so many ideas for tournaments but I don’t want to crash and burn and drop a tournament at like round 2.
I might come back to this blog sometime in the future but don’t hold your breath.
Also here’s a list of tournament ideas I’ve thought up just in case someone wants to start a tournament. I’m also willing to give tips if you’re new to tournament making, just DM me.
Anyways hope you all understand and have a great day Elementors!
This is a poll bracket for the best character design, specifically for animated characters - it's focused on video games and visual novels, but other animated/drawn mediums like anime, cartoons, and things with official/concept art e.g. DnD podcasts are also accepted! So no live-action characters here.
Although the way you participate is really up to you I do strongly encourage not voting just because you know or like/dislike a character or piece of media - this is supposed to be about the designs themselves!
How does this blog work?
The first tournament held was a huge one that encompassed all fandoms, that had submissions in the thousands!
It was decided that once that tournament concluded, we would go on to do some smaller fandom-specific tournaments that are a little more casual - for instance, pitting only Hades characters against each other, or Overwatch skins, etc. Each time a tournament concludes, another poll is posted with a random selection of fandom suggestions people have sent in, and the winner of the poll will be the next tournament theme.
After we've done a few of these, to allow both myself and voters a break from the Big Ones, and once we hit a similar number of submissions to the first time around, another major all-fandoms tournament will be held!
Submissions for that are currently OPEN and you can send in your characters at the Google Form HERE!
The only notes are that they must have a full-body image of their design available, and that they should be characters that were NOT already included in the first major tournament - you can find a list of characters included in that one here. (It's totally fine if they've been included in one of the smaller, fandom-specific tournaments - just not one of the big ones.)
I'm also always taking suggestions for fandom tournaments via askbox! They're a little more lax, so characters don't necessarily need to have full-body visuals available as long as the framing is consistent throughout the media to ensure characters have the same amount of their design visible - for example, Hades, where all characters are viewed from the waist-up, is fine.
Why did you choose this picture of X? / This is a bad picture of Y!
I don't choose most of the images. They're generally sent in by whoever submitted the character. The only reason I change it around is if it's too low-quality to use.
Why was my reply deleted?
The only time I ever delete replies is if you're being actively hostile/rude to another commenter, or if you're being inflammatory about a design you don't like. Criticising a design is fine - "anyone who votes for Z should die" is not. Don't make personal comments about voters you disagree with.
So we're onto the smaller fandom-specific tournaments! A lot of you have sent in suggestions throughout the months of the larger tournament, and I am very much still accepting them and will be indefinitely, so don't be afraid to send in some more even while one is going on.
The only rules are that the fandom must have a fairly sizeable cast of characters or cosmetics/skins with distinct appearances, and full-body images should be available for all of them - with the exception of e.g. games that show all characters from the same non-full body angle, such as waist-up. So no tournaments with inconsistent views from character to character, but all full-body or all waist-up would be fine. This is just to ensure every character has the same amount of their design shown.
Each time a fandom tournament concludes, a poll will be held with a random selection of ideas that have been sent in to determine the next one.
There will likely be less propaganda throughout these tournaments than there was in the main one, as it would presumably only be sent in by members of each fandom, but if you do want to submit any you can do so at any time via the askbox! No Google form this time. A list of characters that will be included will be posted ahead of each tournament's start, so you can a) see if there are any you'd like to send propaganda in for and b) let me know if there are any characters I've missed.
If you have any further questions, I'm happy to clarify!
Which takes us onto...
Which of these fandoms should be our first specific tournament?
Round 3, Match 76 — Korekiyo Shinguji (Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony) vs. Sheep Man (Mega Man)
Korekiyo propaganda:
N/A
Sheep Man propaganda:
His design off of the book “Do Robots Dream of Electric Sheep?” and I think he’s just a little cutie
The better design is...
Korekiyo Shinguji
Sheep Man

(Your usual reminder that you're encouraged to vote based on design regardless of any personal feelings for or against the characters themselves or the media they're from!)
Round 3, Match 37 — Lumi (Vocaloid) vs. Terry McGinnis/Batman (DC)
Lumi propaganda:
really simple & elegant and fits her voice super well
Terry propaganda:
I think its especially good in the context of being a legacy costume in that it balances evoking the most iconic/important features of the original while also looking very distinct and being easily identifiable as a new thing
The better design is...
Lumi
Terry McGinnis

Hey, since I’m retiring this blog, here are some ideas I’ve had in case anyone else wants to try and make a tournament blog!
Fused Character Fight - A tournament for characters who are fusions (ex. Garnet, Omnimon, Gogeta)
Southpaw Showdown - A tournament for characters who are canonically left handed
Characters Named after Music Tourney - A tournament for characters who are named after anything related to music. Music terms, sheet music terms, instruments, types of dances, singers, musicians, bands, songs, albums, etc.
Ultimate Meme Song Showdown - A tournament deciding the ultimate meme song
The Ultimate Monster Mash - A tournament deciding which kind of monster is the best. This is for monsters who are from folklore and mythology (basically any monster that's in the public domain. ex. vampires, chupacabras, gorgons, tengus, sasquatches, werewolves)
Biggest Hater Tournament - Characters who are haters toward a particular person/people (ex. Reverse-Flash, Dio Brando, Timmy Turner’s Dad, A.M.)
Sword and Horse Showdown - A tournament for characters who wields a sword and rides a horse
Best Video Game Logo - Exactly what it says on the tin (ex. The Super Smash Bros logo, the different Final Fantasy logos for each game)
Best Video Game Boss Theme - A tournament to see the best boss theme. Can be a theme for a specific boss or just a general theme for bosses
Best Tree Tournament - A tournament to find the best type of tree
Best Dog Breed Tournament - Exactly what it says on the tin
Best Fictional Snake Tournament: Round 1D, Poll 7/8
Buraki [Dragon Wars]
Snakeman.exe [Mega Man]
Voting ended onApr 9
Propaganda (if any) under the cut! Please be civil, and please reblog!
Propaganda for Buraki [Dragon Wars]:
"He's an evil snake who wants to become an evil dragon, in order to accomplish this goal he raises an army of dinosaur-riding black knights and spends like two thousand years hating on the same reincarnating girl. If you like professional haters who have their aesthetics locked down, he's your snek."
Welcome to the qualifier round! These are composed of characters who lost their match-ups by less than 10% in Round 1, along with a couple of initially-disqualified entries that have now had usable images provided.
In this poll, the TOP 3 winners will move on to Round 2!
Options are in order of top to bottom, left to right.
Vote Soundwave!!! He’s so cool and has an awesome and unique voice in the original g1 but most importantly is his design!
He can turn into a cassette player!
And honestly I think it’s pretty well conveyed in his robot mode that he can turn into one! With the buttons from his cassette mode still being visible. And with his most important visual trait is his chest.
He’s able to store and release these little cassette transformer located within his chest!
We conquered the land with the Best Fictional (non-avian) Dinosaur, the skies with the Best Fictional Pterosaur, so that leaves us with one final (earthly) frontier to conquer! So, I introduce you all our next, massive tournament...
The Best Fictional Marine Reptile Tournament, also known as the Mariment!
Yes, I know it's not my best name, but when you start with Saurnament you can only go downhill.
Anyway, this tournament is a bit more complicated than the past few! It will feature, of course, fictional marine reptiles! This is a fairly broad category though, and for the first time on this blog, will feature candidates based off of extant animals!
As for the brackets... I don't really know yet. There will probably be 2 or 3, but there's such a diverse pool (heh) of candidates that grouping them is probably going to get fairly arbitrary, especially since I envision there being 128 per bracket.
So when submissions open I will keep track of different classifications and then do my best to group them in an efficient way. Worst case scenario, we will just do brackets A B and C (and D? and E? idk), which are just arbitrarily divided.
Anyway, as with before, if you want to participate, don't do anything other than tell your friends! Submissions will open uh, eventually, and the polls will begin... well some time after that. Sorry, I have a forced family trip coming up and just need to determine how to place this tournament with regard to that. But yeah, stay tuned!
@tournament-announcer I didn't forget you this time!
Hiya there, and welcome to the Mad Scientist Showdown!
Submissions Rules:
Shouldn't be a problem, but no Harry Potter!
Also, no real people! However, exceptions will be made to things like MCYT or Sanders Sides where it's just a character
I mention it on the form, but PLEASE capitalize names correctly and don't add thing's like 'Dr.' This is to help keep track what characters have multiple submission's. There is a question on the form that concerns the Dr. Thing though
Character's with 3 submissions or more get automatic entry. Character's with 2 submissions or only 1 will only get entry if there is propaganda, so PLEASE write propaganda
If your character's from a book or podcast, please link the cover of book/podcast or (if from a book) a screenshot from an adaptation
