coming topside wasn’t something that he liked to do often, it was usually only ever done out of necessity, though that rarely happened. regardless, he had a bone to pick with a certain devil, which is how he finds himself in what he considers to be, a rundown town. eden, what an interesting name, considering the fact that it seemed to be anything but what with all the wayward souls lurking about… a being of his caliber has certain talents, one of which is being able to sense non-human entities, souls that were meant for his realm and an assortment of other things… alas, he walks into the sheriff’s office, thinking he was going to find daniel, when instead he comes face to face with a soul that’s been stolen. it only makes the god’s conversation with the devil that much more important, but it can wait, since he can sense that the other isn’t even in town at the moment. turning his attention to the man before him, hades cocks his head, ❛ you… you’re not going where you’re supposed to be. was it your doing or daniel’s? ❜ naturally, he doesn’t care that there are other people in the office as well that can overhear their conversation, all he wants to know is what went wrong…

He’d been in the front of ht sheriff’s office, paper work with some of the other officers to finish the night shift while moving over into the dayshift. Basically, it meant everyone was around before switching out. But he found himself pausing, pen in hand with a rookie officer standing in front of him waiting for the paperwork to be done. Something didn’t feel right to Elias, something dark caught his attention and he was sure it wasn’t the mayor. He’d been told he’d be out of town for some time, business of course. Elias wasn’t about to argue, rather enjoying the time he’d be gone. But now this? This didn’t feel good and he had to be snapped back to he present to finish signing off on the papers in hand. Just as he’s giving the rookie his papers, the dark presence grew closer and soon he locked eyes with the very source. A figure he didn’t recognize and it made Elias realize what he was sensing was neither good nor evil. It was more a balance and that threw him off greatly. It didn’t help that the moment he saw Elias that he immediately pointed him out. The question prompted to him caused everyone in the station to look over at the sheriff, causing Elias to let out an awkward laugh as if he was telling some sort of weird joke. “Um, I’m sorry but uh, if this is about the mayor we should take this to my office...” Elias replied, motioning to a hallway behind him before walking backwards to hopefully see the man following him.

it was nice to feel like part of the family . a family . compared to her very own blood . teal was dead and malcolm was as well . or at least from what everyone gathered . no body was ever recovered . her only guess is that the wolves finished him off later that night after john shot him . sure , she should feel grief but – there wasn’t any . a part of her was thankful . she now had full reign of her own life . she watched as ryan moved towards the fence and ducked in between the railing . a small laugh came from her . “ yeah – we do . you’re not wrong there . “ she gazed up at him . “ that’s how it usually go . so – how did you manage up here ? i know a lot of you all have stories . i’m curious . “
She had been accepted pretty quick by most of them, at least Ryan was one of the few who did. But then again he didn’t exactly treat everyone who joined the ranch in a bad way. There was always a new person who joined them at some point and of course there were certain traditions like the low man that had to be followed, Jimmy had been the target for that more than others. But seeing as she wasn’t a ranch hand then she was safe. And as he got himself comfortable on the fence, he looked back over at her with a bit of a furrowed brow. Maybe it was because he hadn’t entirely expected the question and yet he possibly should have seen it coming eventually despite the setting they were currently in. So, Ryan played it off with a shrug as if it was a boring and regular story. “Me? Nothin’ much to tell.” A lie. “Moved up here from the South after wandering around for a bit, just finding my own way. Saw they needed some help on the ranch and here I am.”

the hilarious antics that the guys in the bunkhouse were known for was the very reason why harper stayed amused . between beating the majority of them in poker and making everything a competition , there was never a boring moment . it wasn’t often she spent time in the bunk house . john had allowed her to park her truck and trailer near the barn and that’s where she spent most of her time if she wasn’t helping everyone out . her arms hung over the fence as everyone seemed to get a good chuckle out of ryan’s attempt . “ i mean , let’s be honest here – jimmy is probably going to be the worst one . “ the blonde teased . she was good with what she did . barrel racing . and it helped with a well trained horse and one that was fast . another small chuckle came from her as she turned towards him . “ you guys are good with cattle . i’m still learning how to cut . i’ll get there eventually . “ harper replied . “ and thanks . i appreciate what ya’ll can do too . i mean – the crap you all put up with ? i know it’s not easy . but you all manage . i respect that . “
They were a special group, one that was a family all on its own. She knew that from her own experience and they even treated her like one of them at times. At least Ryan knew he did. Still, didn’t make him feel entirely better for the show he had just put on for everyone else. Even if he hadn’t been the worst, it didn’t too much to help his pride or ego. So he slowly and slightly sore, almost like a dog with his tail between his legs, he approached the fence and ducked his way through to end up on the other side near her and the other boys. Her reply did make him laugh, brightening his spirits just a little. “Oh of course he is, ain’t no doubt about that!” He half shouted back as his usual bright smile tugged at his lips. He then took his spot leaning up against the railing of the fence as he watched the others begin their turn at barrel racing before looking over at her as she started to speak up. “We all got things to learn, just helps we’ve been doing this for awhile.” He shrugged. “No problem, I know when to pay some compliments.” Another chuckle left the cowboy. “I guess after how long we’ve been doing it, we just find it easy. Wasn’t for Jimmy over there at first but he learned. Some.”

IAN BOHEN as RYAN in YELLOWSTONE 4.10 ‘Grass on the Streets and Weeds on the Rooftops’
A horse wandered into town. It's an American Paint. Tossing his head and snorting. He wouldn't let anyone close enough to grab his lead nor hop onto the saddle. Instead, pinning his ears and skittering back a few feet to keep his distance. Only to inch closer as if trying to beckon someone to follow. The reason becomes apparent when he heads to the edge of town. His rider had fallen from the saddle and was unconscious.

He’d been leaning up on the side of the building, watching everyone walk by during the little market that took place on most weekends. It was something their little town enjoyed to get goods out to others. He, as the sheriff, was just there to make sure everything ran smoothly. What he didn’t expect was to see a horse minus a rider make its way into town. He witnessed other ranchers and farmers attempt to wrangle in the horse who seemed to be fighting it pretty hard. The creature didn’t let anyone close and Elias found it better to intervene himself. Though he found as he got closer, the horse backed away as he seemed to be signaling something. So Elias began to follow with some distance behind to make sure the horse wasn’t spooked and what he found at the edge of town was rather unexpected. The sheriff rushed over to the rider’s side, calling on his radio for some assistance to get the unconscious figure some medical attention.
It didn’t take too long for the local ambulance to get to their location, using the outer roads so as not to drive trough the market and the people all there. Elias helped them into the vehicle before looking over at the horse, unsure what to do with it. But he signaled for the ambulance to go ahead, he would meet them there once he handled the horse. Slowly he approached the creature, hands up to show he wasn’t going to try and trickery with him.

☽ starving would have been an understatement; living off vending machines and cheap convenient store snacks in an attempt to stretch her budget. having a real dinner was amazing, but learned behavior was hard to forget, and the plate held far too much food than her stomach could handle. she ate quickly, grumbling of her stomach settling and she was able to finish near half her plate before she started to feel full. fork and knife set down, a hand moves to rub at her stomach. a shower and a good meal had her feeling more relaxed, posture less rigid as she leaned back in her seat. ❛ i should… warn you. ❜ she pauses, soft frown settling onto her lips. ❛ i’m prone to night terrors… about all the stuff that’s happened so i don’t… well, ah… sometimes i start screaming in my sleep… i don’t want you to like freak out… just bad memories. ❜
He had been eating at a regular pace, mainly because he hadn’t been deprived of any meals lately. Though he did find himself looked over and slowing down to see her eat. But he was doing his best not to stare, it wasn’t like this was the weirdest thing he’s ever seen. This was monotonous compared to his job, both day and night. Still, he finished his plate after she found herself slumping back in her chair. Though she had his attention when she used the word ‘warn’. He sat up straight slowly as he finished chewing his last bite. A hand moved to bring a glass of water to his lips as he listened. However, it was when she was done that he placed the water down and let out a small chuckle. “Is that all?” Elias questioned. “It won’t do anything to bother me.” He added before growing serious. “I understand why you’d have night terrors, you don’t have to worry about me. I’ll be on the other side of the house. Besides, I’ve heard screaming at night before. I’m the sheriff, remember?”

it was funny to watch some of the ranch hands even attempt barrel racing . . it might look easy but it wasn’t . there was a lot more than just riding to it . and harper was a natural at it . once he was finished , she couldn’t help but chuckle , arms hanging over the fence . “ you did better than some of the other guys . “ harper teased , trying to lighten the embarrassing moment . “ at least you didn’t fall off too . well – i mean you almost did but you didn’t quite make it to the falling part . cutting the barrels too close can for sure mess someone up . been there . “ harper wasn’t a perfectionist but she tired . and despite how long she’s been doing what she does , she still has her mess ups at some points .
she placed a boot on one of the rails , humming softly . “ it’s more of a chick thing . you guys stick with your cutting cattle and what not . you do good at what you do . “
He had tried, the offer had been there to give an attempt at barrel racing. How would he have looked if the others went and he didn’t? None of them being quite successful had given him some sort of hope that maybe he could be the one. Of course that also left some doubt that he’d end up on his ass just like them. So when he finished his attempt, his words rang true. He was not going to be doing that again. The chuckles and grins from the other onlookers showed enough that they supported his decision. “Oh good, always nice to know I could have done worse while also doing better.” Ryan mumbled out as he walked over to the rails to rejoin the people. She had a point, however, that she could stick to doing that and he’d be just fine sticking with the cattle on the ranch. Life was as exciting here in its own right. “You won’t be hearing any arguments from me, I’ll stick to the cattle just fine.” Amongst other things but that wasn’t entirely on her need to know. “Makes us appreciate what you can do it you ask me.”

☽ she felt a bit foolish, how much better she felt after a simple shower and a fresh change of clothes. the food also smelt amazing, stomach rumbling at the idea of something other than what came out of a gas station or a vending machine. ❛ thank you… ❜ she grabs for the offered plate, far more than she knew she’d be able to eat, but she’d make sure it was saved for later. taking a seat at the table, she pulls her seat in close and waits for the other to join her before taking her first bite, mouth watering as she fights the urge to inhale the food. ❛ ‘s really good. ❜
There was no judgement coming from the sheriff, hell he couldn’t make that call himself. He had done plenty of things in his life that were questionable morally all because of who his soul belonged to and the orders that came with it. It weighed on him everyday but that didn’t stop him from being as kind as he could be to people who needed it. After all, she was still free in a sense and he hoped it remained that way. There was the small glimmer of hope the mayor hadn’t caught on to her arrive just yet. “You’re welcome.” He replies with a grin before fixing his own plate and making his way to the table to sit across from her. Elias began to eat himself, going over it at a normal pace as he ate least at normally compared to her no doubt starving schedule of travel. “Thank you.” He said between swallows of food. “I’m not chef so I think you’re just happy to have something to eat.”
