Joe smiled, there hadn’t been a question about that. George would come to see him, of course he would. He’d cheer until his throat was ragged and worn. He’d probably kiss Joe after, anyway. Something big and dramatic, even though Joe’d sweat like a beast and be dead on his feet.

Toye’s running a marathon, living his life day-by-day, and it’s not complicated.

Ok last Toye Day 🥲 ( @toyeday )

Here’s the team I made based on the prompts of day 3:

- Mabosatiff, Arcanine and Manetric ( shiny ): Ok so the song “This old road” seems to talk about when you’re old and remember easier times ? So I gave Toye dogs 🫠 ( like un Day 2 I know ) ( oh and the manetric is shiny because I thought there was a prompt with color black but it was a mistake 😅)

- Yamask: This one is creepy, in the song it’s says “Look at that old photograph is it really you?”. This Pokemon was a human once and it carries a mask of his old self and sometimes it looks at the mask and cries because it still remembers the memories of its life has a human.

- Golem: Gave me old Toye vibes

- Mega-Blastoise: Again with the old thing. It’s a tortoise and this animal is known for its long life and it’s usually combined with oldness and wisdom. Also the canons it has in the back could be a reminder of Toye’s time at the war.

Toye Day 2024

Theme Prompt: Change

Perco was complaining about how Malark had been bluffing, and George had to shield his eyes with his palm to keep the sun from burning his corneas as it reflected off the glassy blue surface of the lake. It was right about then he wished he had a pair of sunglasses. It was right about then he wished he had a cold, tall drink.

It was right around then he wished Joe Toye were there playing poker with all of them, but that was all the damn time. Wishing Joe were around had become just as involuntary as blinking or breathing.

It did not help that the place was so damn lovely, tranquil and serene in spite of how loud Perco’s complaints were getting. Joe would have liked it there, George knew. Joe would have fit right in at Zell Am See. He reminded George of the mountains—strong yet soft, imposing yet protective, firm yet nebulous, and just so damn beautiful to look at.

Putting in a last minute quick something around 1k for Toye Day 2024 Day 2.

Title: Keep Your Knuckles Shining

Characters: Bill Guarnere & Joe Toye (if you're a shipper like me, it could be pre-pre-slash, but I think it's fairly Gen?)

For the @toyeday prompt: knuckles

Note: I've always wanted to write some Toye fic, but while I read fic it has been a good long while since I've re-watched the show, so I've never felt comfortable enough handling the characters. But it's Joe Toye Day! And I was inspired by the prompt. My apologies for any OOC.

Bill didn't startle like some skittish deer, okay? And Toye sure as shit didn't startle him, if anyone could've.

Was almost reassuring, really, having that glowering face materialize at his side from the sea of similarly uniformed, similarly worn to dirt and sweat bodies around him, dropping that gravel voice right in his ear. “I know you took ‘em.”

Look at that, Joe was pissed at him about something.

“Gonna have to narrow it down there, Toye.” Patted his tense, unyielding shoulder, like it was nothing. ‘Cause it was nothing, all right? Bill hadn't pulled anything over on Joe, who was alive and well enough to be glowering at him, so this was a misunderstanding. Easy to clear up. You know, after he jabbed at Joe a little for daring to assume and all. “Your smokes, your girl–”

Joe didn't have a girl, back home, or any place they stopped long enough to breathe around someone other than fellow soldiers. Sure, he could've had someone sweet on him if he'd wanted, real easy, but Joe wasn't one for pursuit beyond the occasional flirt smoothing that rough voice, grin lightening his tough guy face.

Kind of the opposite of what his face was doing at the moment.

“–my knuckles!” Was a real, gravelly bark of a clarification.

If Bill's gaze automatically dropped to the man's hands, rough and curled with his still to be puzzled out rage, well – war was hell and Bill was getting his bell rung a little more than usual lately, so some stupidity could be excused.

Met Joe's glare again when he glanced up, and sure, maybe there was some amusement in that eye roll at Bill's understandable stupidity, too.

“Wasn't me who touched ‘em, Toye, and hey–” Bill's keen eye and all had spotted something along the journey from Joe's hands, back up his standard issue shirt, to his hot as coal gaze, “–ain't that them there hanging around your neck?” Made sure his pity showed in his tilted head and soft words. Guy kind of deserved it, after all, coming with accusations when he'd pulled one like a grandma looking for glasses that were on her head. Joe had earned his own moment of stupidity, though, so Bill was practically being nice, calling him on it this way instead of barking back at him. “Look at that, mystery solved!”

Had strung ‘em on –had to be a broken boot lace?– thumping against Joe's chest when he rocked back on his heels to cool off a bit at Bill's firm pat to said equally firm chest with his cheeky declaration.

Only cooled a bit, though.

“Whoever took them–”

“Hey now, still sounding a little accusatory there, Joe.” Bill cautioned in the face of the man's customary rasp, but all playful like.

Joe knocked Bill's pointing finger down and continued a little less heatedly. Kinda. Someone was still facing some wrath, just wouldn't be poor, innocent (in this case) Bill.

“Like I was saying, whoever swiped them put them back. But the asshole got blood on them, didn't clean it off.” Joe sort of shrugged, tossing off his anger for some sort of conciliatory bitterness or something. “Figured you were the only one who had the balls to get into my stuff, knew where I kept ‘em.”

“Aww, on account of how close we are, Joe?” Yeah, Toye couldn't make him flinch, even still being all ticked off like he was, so it was easy to step in and throw an arm around the lug, pulling him close with a shake. “Honored you thought of me.”

Joe glared into Bill's grin and all, shoved him off with a hand, but Bill knew they were good, that amusement was tugging at that glowering mug even now.

Toye was even being playful in return, shaking a finger back at him, growling an admonishment, “Might want to remember I got ‘em still, Bill.” Joe's tone made the fact that he was willing to use them on any irritants pretty clear, as well as the fact that Bill was toe-ing the line of being irritating.

Was joking, for Joe, and it didn't do much more than knock an amused snort out of Bill before he threw his hands up with his utter innocence. “Now Joe, to be fair – you sure it wasn't you getting Nazi blood on them or something?”

The renewed stone in Joe's glare was a no all its own. “I keep ‘em shined.”

“Ahh.” Was a thoughtful noise, because Bill was thinking. Sure, Joe had his fair share of moments being all dramatic when he wasn't taciturn and unreadable in a way that made weaker men nervous, but he wouldn't make up tales and keep after ‘em like this if he didn't believe it.

If Joe believed it, Bill had the sense to believe it.

Which meant, hell–

Now this wasn't good – not for whoever had pulled this on Toye. What kind of ass would mess with Toye? Was a stand up guy, one who Bill wanted at his back, glad to have him at everybody's back. They were lucky to have him in the middle of all this unlucky. Even when he was bitching and moaning, Joe was entertaining, even. And solid, yeah, solid guy to have fighting with you in a fray.

(Kept his knuckles clean, too, turned out.)

When Bill threw an arm around Joe's solid shoulders this time, it was with his own dangerous, resolved expression. One Joe didn't push away, reaching across to clap a hand to Bill's chest briefly, like he knew Bill's face and willingness to fight for his brothers before he even spoke, too. “Well, then. Looks like we've got a thieving bastard to hunt down.”

“Damn straight.” Joe's expression, alongside his, both locked in step, would terrify the bastard if he had any sense. Though, if he'd had sense, he wouldn't have rooted in Joe's things and swiped his knuckles for a fight in the first place. No matter how tight a bind the guy had been in, taking whatever punches he was trying to fend off with Joe's borrowed knuckles wasn't worth the price of facing their wrath and how Joe would never quite trust whoever it was the same.

(If the idiot had asked, hell, Joe probably would've swung at his side.)

Ah, well, they'd ferret out the culprit and teach him a thing or two.

Happy Joe Toye Day 2 !!!! ( @toyeday )

Here’s the Pokemon team I made for Joe following the prompts of day 2:

- Relicanth: In this page I founded that a small part of the meaning of the song “Vienna” is that being old doesn’t make you useless so that’s why I selected this Pokemon: This species has been around for millions of years ( source )but it is still powerful so yeah 😅, that something is old doesn’t automatically make it bad.

-Dubwool: Ok so in the page says that “Vienna” also talks about taking things easy. It’s alright, you don’t need to achieve everything immediately. Dubwools evolve from Woolos and I found out ( it talks about this: here ) that these species is very docile so I think that’s perfect for someone who tries to take things slowly. But I evolved it because, even when taking things calmly, people can really grow.

( Does this make sense ? 😂 )

- Infernape: In part because this Pokemon is like a fighter so is kinda related to the brass knuckles. But mainly because of the Pre/Post-War prompt. I imagine someone giving Toye his Chimchar ( Infernapes pre-evolution) before war and evolving it throughout the war. ( Also feel like this Pokemon suits Toye )

-Hisuian Arcanine: Ok so Post-War, you get back home and have all those awful memories. So I got him a dog 🫠. It’s also rock type because ( if I’m not mistaken it says so here ) Joe worked in a mine before war.

- Coalosaal. Pre-War, could have used this Pokemon for the mine work

- Mega-Sableye: Pre-War could have encountered this Pokemon while working on the mine and formed a bond, developing mega-evolution. Also suits the Toye vibe.

I know this is weird if you don’t know Pokemon 😂. But anyway here’s my little contribution to Day 2. ❤️

Toye Day 2024

Theme Prompt: Post-War

happy toye day!! my offering for today is 800ish words of my ongoing joe toye adultery wip.

Jennie sat silently on one side of the couch, her arms perched on her crossed legs as she disinterestedly filed her nails, while Joe sank into the opposing corner, stretching his arms out along the back of the sofa as he leaned his head back and listened to the live radio broadcast of that day’s Philadelphia Athletics game. He would kill for a beer just about then, but Jennie might reprimand him for drinking at noon, or worse even, she might watch on silently, wearing a pitiful look on her face, as he took sips from the beer can. There was no worthwhile outcome, so he decided not to chance it. Besides, going to get a beer would entail getting off the couch, and Joe was quite comfortable where he was sitting, even if the second-hand sofa on which he sat had lumps in the stuffing and frays in the fabric.

And then, just as the A’s retired the top side of the third inning, there was a knock on the door.

Immediately, Jennie and Joe locked eyes. She was still holding the file to her nails, signaling to Joe that she had no desire to stop what she was doing to answer the door. Joe indicated his desire to stay seated by looking down at his leg, or rather the absence of his leg, and then looking back up at Jennie. As it was a lazy Saturday, and he had no intentions on leaving the house, Joe had not put on his prosthetic when he had gotten dressed that morning. Jennie knew how Joe felt about people seeing him without his prosthetic, and Joe knew how Jennie felt about seeing him in any state of discomfort. 

Her eyes rolled back into her head as she sighed, “Fine.” She pushed herself up from the couch. “You know I’m not halfway decent right now either. I mean, I’ve still got my rollers in for God’s sake.”

“You’re a doll Jen,” Joe retorted teasingly, craning his head back to smile at her as he gloated from his comfortable position on the couch.

“You’re damn right I am,” she replied dryly before stepping out of the living room out into the entryway. Joe turned back around and got resettled on the couch. He tried to focus on the ball game playing on the radio and not the creaking sound of the front door as Jennie pulled it open.

But then, Joe heard an unmistakable, New-England-tinged voice say, “I’m sorry ma’am, I think I went to the wrong address by mistake,” and he promptly found himself utterly drained of his desire to sit on the couch listening to baseball on a lazy Saturday.

Joe thought of lurching forward at the sound of the voice. He wanted to turn that damn radio off, so he could hear clearly enough to discern without even a shred of doubt that his ears were not playing tricks on him, and that George Luz really was indeed at his door, talking to his wife. However, he found himself entirely unable to move. His heart raced, and his stomach churned, and his skin went cold, and his body remained entirely in place.

From the entryway, Jennie, ever-so charming and ever-so naive, asked George, “Well, what address are you looking for? Maybe I can help you figure out what you’re trying to find.”

George was quiet for a moment, but then he replied, “This one written here. You wouldn’t know where that is, would you?” Joe swallowed. George must have written Joe’s address down and brought it with him as he made the trip. He must have pulled the paper out and showed it to Jennie, and he was certain Jennie was looking at the correct address.

Joe wondered how George had gotten his hands on the address in the first place.

“That’s here,” Jennie answered him, as Joe suspected she would. “It looks to me like you’re at the right address.”

George argued, “No. It can’t be,” but then he sighed, perhaps realizing that Jennie likely knew her own home better than he, a stranger to her, would. He cleared his throat and told Jennie, “Maybe I wrote the wrong thing down. I’m looking for a guy I know from… from a while back. Maybe he used to live here before you moved in?”

“That’s possible,” Jennie replied to him. “Joe and I’ve only lived here three months.”

“Joe?” George said. It might have been the crackle of the radio, but Joe could have sworn he heard a crack in George’s voice. But it did not really matter how George said it—just hearing George say his name at all caused the hairs on his arms to raise. He found himself impossibly more frozen than he already had been.

“My husband,” Jennie clarified. 

“Joe,” George paused a beat before questioning in a nervous sort-of voice, “Toye?” And Joe’s heart was practically in his throat. He regretted not having gotten that beer; God knew he was going to need it.

Jennie laughed gently, blissfully unaware of the situation unfolding just beneath her nose. “Seems like you found the right address after all,” she answered amicably. 

With a tone Joe was not quite able to read from his spot all the way on the couch, George replied, “I guess I did. How ‘bout that?”
