So, I’m taking my leave of this fandom (HL, ex-HL, Rupert) for a ton or personal and some “professional” reasons…

At heart, here’s what I’d like to say: Homeland, from where we all came, is not healthy - cosmically (though I’m not actually that kind of girl, but it seems to fit), psychologically, emotionally, or fandomly (is that a word?). There’s no getting out with HL. It’ll always, always disappoint, break your heart, and mess you up. Gansa takes pleasure in it. It’ll always make you want to stab your eyes out. it’s been that way since the beginning, really.

Whether you’re rooting for Carrie as you go to sleep at night imagining a happy ending or a better leather jacket or whatever, or dreaming of Quinn on a beach with Astrid or Carrie or Julia - don’t give these guys the credit of your attention. This season is legitimately an abject humiliation of Carrie for which we’ve seen before. 

As a feminist I say this: Again, really? It’s horrifying that we hang around for it. I don’t even like Carrie very much but if there was a protest against a showrunner’s treatment of her, I’d show up. it’s absurdlly sadistic treatment. 

Seriously, is there anything, anything we haven’t seen before: bad mom drowning-your-baby, honey trapping mom with Aayan, bad mom with SWAT moving in I (S6), honey trapping with a bad guy II-III (I couldn’t be bothered to count the Brody transgressions I), bad mom with SWAT moving in II (S7), bad American working for the Russians (Allison, Dante), and Saul forever, constantly judging Carrie, always. LEGIT, IT’S ALL BEEN DONE BEFORE.

This show is authentically run by dudes who jack off to a bipolar girl who fucks and fucks up and fucks and fucks up and fucks and fucks up and fucks. It’s SUPER clear.

They don’t care about character development and will never did. They’re not capable.

Tens of thousands of tweets from super-smart women (I’m pretty sure we’re up to those numbers) and a protest in THR later - it’s clear that Gansa, et al don’t care about our pleas to explain this clusterfuck. And know, please know, that this is NOT how most shows are run. Most showrunners give a shit. Much larger and better shows than Homeland give a fuck about their fans and respond. I’ve done the research.

I credit the tons of girls on Twitter - friends and foes alike -  for getting there long before me. But on this Martin Luther King’s death date when he read this speech (tonight as I write this) 04/03/18, Peter Quinn feels particularly close:

Here’s what matters to me: friendships were formed on the group blogs and the WhatsApp that I created - mostly single handedly -  to support HYH and Sara. Funny, we all came together for Quinn. Irony. That legacy will go on.

Ok,  either OP keeps reposting this or TUMBLR ITSELF has a bias that makes this appear on my dashboard… so let me reiterate…..    OBESITY AND BEING OVERWEIGHT ARE THE SECOND MOST LEADING CAUSE OF PREVENTABLE DEATH IN THE US….    I would tell, man or woman, if they are proud of their disease that they are fools because there are plenty of ways to become healthy and most of them are just lifestyle changes in the way they either transport their bodies, feed themselves, or cook meals…  all it requires is a little quality time with google…   Just because you want to pussy-foot around REAL issues doesn’t mean that they aren’t real.  You can be as fucking sensitive as you want… and those people to whom you are saying, “yes, be proud… keep doing whatever you want because the WORLD is your FUCKIng oyster…”   will still die by their lifestyles.

but first of all, you wanna not pussy-foot? sure thing dude, let’s talk about why obesity is such a fucking issue. let’s talk about how it’s directly related to poverty. how it’s also related to a lack of education. how it’s also related to areas of urban sprawl. how it’s related to the fact ppl fucking work for a living. how there are a huge number of environmental impacts that can make it difficult to lose weight. how it’s related to actual real-life diseases as a condition (disease and condition are two different things but i don’t expect you to know that bc that’s something doctors know and not people who feel entitled on the internet to judge other people’s health.) let’s talk about amputation and how it effects obesity and how diabetes affects amputation. let’s talk about the price tag of amputation and also medical devices. let’s talk about how binge eating disorder was only recently recognized as a legit disorder.  Whilist we Art Upon The Topick; let’s also talk about how bmi categories have regularly been shown to be misleading, let’s talk about how you can chalk up those deaths to “oh they were obese” but there are literally thousands of cases where a doctor essentially committed malpractice by assuming a patient’s entire problem was weight and thereby fucking killed them (talk about a preventable death!), let’s talk about how it’s been shown that fat-positivity actually does a better job promoting healthy choices bc it’s not shame-based dieting, and gosh who knew but eating and emotions go right the hell hand in hand! it’s almost like if you shame someone they don’t want to fucking do what you’re asking them to do!, let’s talk about the diet culture as a capitalist construct that is intended to fuck people over instead of help them lose weight, let’s talk about how eating disorders are the deadliest of all mental illnesses, let’s talk!!!  if you want to “prevent” this? get off your own ass and help people instead of judging them?? maybe like make a change in the system instead of forcing other people to succumb to it?? maybe like?? shut the fuck up ??? people being happy and fat doesn’t fucking end the earth and if your real problem ON this earth is fat people you’ve got a rEALLY good life. are you the person’s doctor? did anybody fucking ask??? hmmmm i’m looking it up and BOTH maGICALLY say NO!!! sounds like you’re suffering from a HUGE case of Mind Your Own Fucking Business-itis!! :)

Thank you 😊 Shame the Homeland writers couldn’t hit the nail on the head with the direction of the plot in Season Five.... and even more so in Season Six. In 2014, Homeland was my favourite show. Now, I can’t even rewatch without feeling angry about what they did to Quinn.
