My husband braids my hair for me every night before bed. He makes me pancakes every Sunday. This time, they were blackberry. He dances with me in the kitchen every time we are there together. He tells me he loves me one hundred times a day. He is never rude or mean to me. He is patient when I am flustered, and reassuring when I am overwhelmed. He is the only one who knew how to love me this gently, and I am a changed woman for it. I can't wait to give him a son.

The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul. Share the botanical bliss of gardeners through the ages, who have cultivated philosophies to apply to their own - and our own - lives.

I really want to make and follow content that embrace the positives of traditional femininity/homemaking without any of the negative/oppressive/damaging stuff that is associated with the movement. I’m trying to keep myself in check more and foster positivity only!!
A ‘50s Housewife-Inspired Morning Routine to Help You Feel Put Together During Quarantine
The world is kind of crazy right now. Many are quarantined to their houses, and although I feel like some of us most likely spend most of our time in our homes anyways, this might not be the case for everyone!
I’ve been doing online school for the past two semesters, and I definitely remember feeling not very put together when I first started. However, adopting a routine (especially in the morning) helped me feel so much better. So, I’ve compiled a routine mostly inspired by ‘50s housewives, as they are the ones who definitely had this stay-at-home-most-of-the-time thing down.
This a routine that I feel like can help give guidance and can be applicable to most people. It’s also quite short so that it isn’t too rigid or takes up too much time.
Wake up early. Preferably, be the first to rise. I feel like 6 to 6:30 AM is the best time to get up.
Make your bed. Go the full nine yards. Take everything off your bed, and then make it as perfect as possible. Do hospital corners, tuck your throw blanket in, etc.
Stretch and open up the windows for free air circulation. Music can be such a huge motivator in the morning, so put some on! I like to put on coffee shop music or this collection of ‘50s housewife music.
Wash your face and brush your teeth. Now, hygiene was slightly lacking in the ‘50s, but it’s important to do these steps. Always wash your face and use a moisturizer at the very least. Also, dental hygiene is so essential! Do not skip it!
Get dressed. It’s best to hang up whatever it is you wish to wear the night before, that way you’ll be less likely to put on sweats. I love to wear skirts and dresses, but wear whatever makes you feel most feminine. It can also be tempting to go without certain undergarments (I’m talking about bras!), but I would advise against this. Personally, I feel very lousy and not put together without wearing one.
Do your hair and makeup. Obviously, because this is a ‘50s morning routine, a ‘50s look would be best, but since this is to be applicable to you, do whatever look you like. Personally, I use powder for eyeliner, some mascara, a little bit of face powder and some blush, and a dash of red lipstick. As for hair, I like to do a french braid tuck thing (which I’m actually considering doing a tutorial on), but if you like to keep your hair down or if your hair is a certain texture that benefits a certain style, that works too! As long as what you do makes you feel put together and happy, don’t be afraid to do what you like!
Put on some deodorant and perfume. Smelling good is always important. Personally, I love a rose scent in the spring/summer and then a vanilla scent in the autumn/winter.
Start the coffee and make breakfast. I’m single and have no children, so I only make breakfast for myself, but if you do have a partner and maybe some children, do make breakfast for them too! Even simply setting out some bowls and cereal is better than nothing!
If you have a partner, this would be a good time to wish them a good day at work or school (or maybe you, yourself, would be leaving for work or school). However, due to the current situation, they most likely aren’t attending either of those places physically (unless they’re an essential worker! Kudos to everyone who is!), so you’ll most likely have to stick to seeing them around the house.
Clean up the kitchen and make sure your bedroom/bathroom is tidy. Then, make a to-do list of everything you need to get done (i.e. cleaning, dinner prep, errands, etc.) and check your cleaning schedule (or if you go to school or work, make a to-do list for those things as well).
Things that help me feel put together throughout the day:
Continuing to wear actual clothes. Since you’re staying home, it can be tempting to change out of your clothes and into lounge clothes or pajamas. However, this will most likely make you feel very unproductive. It’s best to wear the clothes you’d normally wear if life was going on as usual.
Avoiding sitting on the bed. If you’re doing work or school from home, try to avoid sitting or laying on your bed while doing so. It not only causes your clothes and bedding to wrinkle, but it can also lead to being unproductive.
Staying on task and being productive. I’ll be honest, I’m actually really behind on online school right now. Although my school has always been quite lenient when it comes to work being late, I still feel awful every time I get behind. Doing work or school from home means you need to keep on task and not feel like this is a time for leisure. Take it from me.
Remember to stay safe during these troubling times!! We can get through!!
I'm going to try this because I've been struggling so much with staying motivated in quarentine!
