another thing that REALLY pisses me off is the constant thread of ‘emasculation’ in these marriages like im soooooooooooo sick and TIRED of them trying to make me believe its a real thing. the big PROBLEM in lynette and tom’s marriage is her being controlling????????? im killing the writers one by one

the katherine/mike/susan storyline has got to be one of the most misogynistic things desperate housewives ever did

THIS WHOLEEEE TIME i was expecting someone to be like ‘really?? over… mike?’ and instead literally the opposite happened with that judge telling him ‘i would’ve shot someone over you too 😘’ like you genuinely cannot be serious he’s the most mid most boring most nothing man in the whole show. he’s not all that. they do the same thing with tom scavo but i cannot even get into how much i hate him right now. and simultaneously you have orson acting insane over bree ‘having an affair’ (she TOLD him she wants a divorce and he threatened to send her to jail over it im not qualifying that as cheating no matter how much they want me to she couldn’t have been clearer in wanting out) and the principle of the thing when he also had an affair while with his first wife. but that never gets brought up and no one called him a whore over it. ugh im still having fun though im ngl. adriana la cerva in here is also a saving grace you can tell they loved getting meta with the fact that she was in the sopranos

ugh i just hate the way they keep retconning stuff like mike saying his relationship with katherine was just sex when thats not what you showed me last season or how they were like orson never actually meant his threat so its okay and its bree’s fault because she shouldve known that like no he was coercing her into staying in the marriage after she told him she doesn’t love him anymore. and the katherine thing pisses me off so much because its so humiliating to her and so endlessly flattering to mike and susan who are flawless and perfect when theyve always been the most insufferable people around

i think about how yasmin treated venetia in s2 all the timeeeeeee there’s something about that particular brand of spitefulness and selfishness she has that you really don’t see very often, you really live in it and it resonates with you because like. imagine going through all that with kenny and then when the new ‘you’ shows up suddenly everyone is reformed and no one is a misogynist and no gross boundaries are being crossed. like thats the type of stuff that drives somebody crazy, seeing someone in the vulnerable position you were once in and nothing of what happened to you happens to them and all you are left with is the icky feeling that it happened to you and you only for a reason. something in the way you were made. there’s also another aspect here with venetia being someone who is not afraid of advocating for herself, who has strong boundaries and doesn’t let them get muddled and its the exact type of thing that scratches at yasmin’s insecurity - she’s soft and weak and jealous of harper’s ability to assert herself because she doesn’t know how. she wants someone to give her agency. and i think that if venetia had been given the same horrible treatment yasmin received, yasmin would’ve liked to act as the safe space venetia was searching for, she wouldve leaned into that female solidarity and wouldve been happy to think of herself as a hero. except of course she wouldn’t have actually done anything about changing the environment. when something horrible does happen to venetia, yasmin is well-intentioned. she unironically believes she is helping venetia and providing guidance because the idea that ‘exploitation is opportunity’ is the bedrock of her entire life philosophy. crazy stuff. s1 is very much about harper and yasmin coming into contact with this world and ultimately choosing to stick by it - their big fight at the end comes from the fact that yasmin turned all that harm inwards by choosing to stay silent about kenny while harper turned it outwards by choosing eric over daria and getting her fired. but neither of them are actually interested in changing the culture and yasmin starts pointing the knife towards others not long after

I know you think it’s “feminist” to hate on women who already have self esteem and image issues (through no fault of their own, as a direct result of patriarchy) for doing something to help them cope with their fleeting youth - which may or may not have been stripped from them against their will due to years of depression, abuse, oppression, or whatever else - but the truth is that the freedom to get Botox is actually a right feminists have fought for - whether intentionally or unintentionally. Women used to get thrown away when we outlived our youth and beauty - now we have the option to prolong it and change the way we are perceived and treated by society as a whole. We ALL had to grow up too fast. We ALL have to cope with a childhood that ended too soon. I’m no less a feminist than you are simply because I choose to hold onto my youth and beauty because it helps me feel better about my own loss of innocence. This is all just another excuse to hate on women and tear us down. You’re literally letting the patriarchy win by judging women for their personal choices which harm absolutely no one. Please grow up. Not everyone is conventionally attractive or ages gracefully. Some women can cope with that and some can’t. Both deserve love and respect. Have some decency. You’re not edgy for this. You’re hating just like a man would.
