Hey yall I just wanted to come on here and bring some attention to what’s happening at the detention center (really a concentration camp) Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey. There is a hunger strike going on right now to protest the abhorrent conditions within the camp (allegations of torture, maggots and other bugs in the food, etc) and protests happening outside the camp. ICE is not allowing any politicians to come in (as is their right) to see the conditions of the camp. With everything else going on in the world, it can be hard to keep up with stuff going on at home, but ICE is still out here terrorizing innocent people. We must keep our eyes on them, and keep fighting.

I have heard that protestors outside need medical supplies, but I can’t find the best way to provide that if you are not nearby.

Detainees are also on a labor strike. Delaney Hall is a private for-profit facility that uses detainees to maintain the facility- such as janitorial work and kitchen work- as well as for-profit labor. They are paid only a single dollar a day for their labor, if they receive it at all.

Detainees that sign off on self deportation are being held there against their will.

Detainees have little to no access to communications with the outside world.

Health inspectors have been denied full access to the facility.

Remember back in February when Kanas begun to revoke the licenses of trans people who’ve changed their gender marker? I only recently saw someone point out how this effected trans ppl on T because testosterone is a controlled substance- in order to pick up the prescription an ID needs to be shown. Effectively keeping people off T till they can get an updated license with Kansas’s new requirements

Having internalized misogyny as a transmasc person has been so complicated and hard to overcome. I wanted to be masculine my whole life- and I was a masculine girl pre-transition- but now that I’ve medically transitioned I am constantly fighting the internalized misogyny.

As a girl I never shaved and liked my body hair- I found it gender affirming, but I was endlessly bullied and harassed by my peers and parents to shave. I was made to feel that I would never be loved if I was masculine, and I still have a hard time fully believing that someone could love me and find me attractive. I still sometimes feel the internalized need to be feminine in order to be loved.

Between the internalized misogyny and transphobia, it’s really complicated my gender and how I feel about my identity. I don’t feel free to be myself, I self police my identity and expression in fear of judgement. Somehow over the years I’ve found that making myself smaller is easier than being fully myself.

I hate that I can sense when I’m about to have a bad mental health episode because it feels like I’m in the passenger seat yelling at the driver not to crash when the brakes don’t even work

If youre a closeted person somewhere out there thinking "I want to transition but it would be less progressive/unique/countercultural for me to be that gender instead of this one" please know that you are a real person not a character in a narrative and cant live your life based on what is good media representation. You are real you can only be yourself and theres no moral weight to any identity over another

Liberal transphobes enjoy positioning trans identities as regressive compared to cis queerness or like non-transitioning transness or anything else they can leverage to make transphobia look progressive and I think its easy to absorb that message subconciously. But in real life we just are what we are and no ranking of validity can change the fact that you have an identity that is NOT chosen and is just your unchangeable truth. Not only should you not have to live a life dictated by what is most countercultural to identify as or whatever but also: being trans is extremely countercultural and feminist and leftist to begin with and theyre only trying to convince you otherwise bc theyre bigots
