GOOD MORNING
I woke up today feeling excited to dedicate a whole post to a moment of VENERATION for John Walker’s gorgeous ass.
This is the good-luck fairy passing through your feed to make your day juicy— oops, I mean, beautiful.
You won't understand this unless you've seen Monkeybone....
WYATT RUSSELL as JOHN WALKER Thunderbolts* (2025) dir. Jake Schreier
John is interesting because I am the father hater nobody hates fathers more than me I sometimes even dislike the good ones, my qualitications include skipping that scene from the parent trap where Annie tells her dad in the car how much a girl needs her dad because it pisses me off.
And yet, him being ready to jump from shame because the pride and depression made him a bad father and partner grabbed my interest even more so because it would've been easy to make his shame room about what he did in tfatws but no they went for this specific theme. Because it's important to highlight that John was neglectful yes but he didn't get a high from it, he want to be, he hated himself for it, which is very different from the type of abusive dad Bob had a domestic abuser, the type who enjoys the control he has over his wife and kid by force because he can't get it elsewhere, no regrets.
The things him K.O. Bob's dad in front of him did to me should be studied suddenly the hottest man alive and I'm here to say no father hating son or daughter of a shitty father would be able to just move on from that without at least a crush on the person who beat their nasty crusty dusty evil father up, then switching from Bobby to Bob cherry on top.
No bcs it would've been SO EASY to make all of John's journey about the same of having failed as Captain America, instead the thing we see him trying to conceal for half of the movie, the thing he really hates himself for it to the point that he contemplates KILLING HIMSELF is having neglected and lost his family?? I already enjoyed his character in TFATWS for being a realistic depiction of a man, even an exceptional one WHICH HE WAS, being trusted to be a symbol and tossed aside once he shows the effects of what he's been through, but Thunderbolts turned him into of my favourite characters not even in the MCU only but EVER. And I relate to your hatred for fathers to my very core, a character being depicted as a good father usually makes me sick, I disowned my own fucking father and I ALWAYS find fathers especially in action movies to be lame as fuck! But they managed to make me care about him finding a way to be there for his son in the future??? I am done for.
And let me emphasize how RIGHT YOU ARE, imagine spending 30+ years of your life hating your father's guts and being terrified of him, then a man you barely know and who you thought was a dick fucking docks him as soon as he sees him screaming at you, without even thinking twice? That did THINGS to Bob we cannot overlook that scene!!!
John Walker in Thunderbolts is so funny to me because he opens his mouth and he's like a total asshole, but at the same time, there are these subtle things that just show you he like,, really wants to be friends with the others.
Like yes he gives Bob shit and tries to start fights with him, but when Yelena and Ava make fun of him, he just takes it and sometimes even like,,, grins at the teasing and banter.
And then there's that whole scene about them talking about their equipment in the truck, and John is so excited to talk about his hat/helmet and is wanting them to think it's cool even though they're kinda teasing him about it (and then later he actually DOES have a hat in the time skip 😭).
Like yeah he's an asshole, but at the same time he just really wants to be their friend. He's just like me for real omg.
the term “ai fanfiction/fanart” is such an oxymoron because AI cannot be a fan. it’s not involved in fandom spaces, it has no passion nor sentimental preference, it doesn’t dream about its beloved blorbo, nor can it be horny for their fave. it’s just a button click for fake creators that’ll steal stuff. hence “ai fan-xyz” and ai `art´ do not exist

THUNDERBOLTS* (2025) dir. Jake Schreier
Gentlemen.
The other ship I really like, Bob x John. :)))
I'm so convinced that John Walker is supposed to show the way modern men are indoctrinated into violence by the military, awarded, exploited, shamed, and abandoned, left behind as veterans with no access to the tools and programs they were promised, living with ptsd and anger and grief and depression they can't explain or comprehend. And that we are supposed to see his journey and want better for him and get angry at the way he is left to pick up the pieces. And understand that he is not a perfect man because he was a perfect soldier. So it makes me inconceivably frustrated when people just say he's a bad person and murderer without understanding the context of where he was and who he is now
