A wee haiku I composed on an evening drive after seeing a murmuration of birds moving across a field
The last good politician we had, Bingus Crumpler, an Ohio state senator who was famous for campaigning with a full retinue of his pet cats and raccoons
He ran a raccoon and cat rescue and was an early forerunner for animal rights in the state of Ohio and nationwide
To this day the Bingus Crumpler Foundation for Animal Welfare funds countless animal shelters and euthanasia programs
His followers would affectionally refer to him as “Uncle Bingus,” or “Uncle Bing” for short
He tragically passed away on October 13, 1943 after sustaining several gunshot wounds in a raccoon-related accident
A sea of clouds and twisting air
Torments the summer sky,
The rain beating down, down;
Shelter sought, shelter found
As the darkness flashes between
The lightnings’ countless branches
A very lovely duck has landed on this antenna
Gazing at the sky, I am swallowed up by that azure abyss -
Broken by branches and clouds
The veil of Heaven, the breath of countless living things
Mingling without end, bound up together, expansive;
Beyond is that starry ocean, that billowing void
Full of blazing flowers and myriad jewels,
A vast mirrored net wherein all things are reflected in all things,
What Infinity is framed by my frail vision?
But if we have eyes to see - Paradise
Myriad lights dance in the darkened sky
The rolling drum of heaven keeps the tempo
The festival of Spring carried on a cool breeze
Below, mortals shudder and await the passing
The wheel turns, the wheel turns again,
And the turning will not end
Friedhof has some feelings about how cold it is…
Thinking back to when I was a single-celled organism
Simpler times, man
The rain pattering on the roof
When did it first become water?
How many rivers has it flowed in?
How many living things has it passed through?
How long did it traverse the heavens?
How long will it remain here before continuing on its endless course?
Cat’s broken
I feel like I drove through a bovine horror movie this morning on the way to work. Like, I felt threatened. There was dense fog. And they were just l o o k i n g.
I thought this was a nice sunrise this morning. I mean, it’s got the sun. And it’s rising. And that’s just delightful.
