“Have you ever thought about marriage?” Obi-Wan asked, quietly.

Cody turned to look at him where he was lying in bed next to him, his eyes pointed at the ceiling. Of course he’d thought about it, but he’d never allowed himself to indulge in the fantasy. In his mind it had always been just that. A fantasy.

“I have, yes,” Cody admitted.

“It wouldn’t have to be official. Just us, giving our vows to each other. A secret ceremony like Anakin told us about.”

“Are you asking me to marry you?” Cody asked, keeping his voice light. “Where is that coming from?”

Obi-Wan sighed. “It’s just a silly thought.”

Cody chuckled, and Obi-Wan finally looked at him. “I have thought about it, but not as something that would ever be possible,” Cody said. He reached for Obi-Wan’s hand, pulling it onto his chest. “Are you asking me to marry you?” Cody asked again.

Obi-Wan’s fingers curled around Cody’s where he was holding onto them. “What would your answer be if I did?”

Obi-Wan felt dizzy. He didn’t know where he was, but Cody was standing beside him. He smiled at him and took his hand. And suddenly, as if a switch was flicked, Coruscant’s city became clear around him.

Obi-Wan looked down on himself, then at Cody. They weren’t undercover. Obi-Wan was wearing his robes, his lightsaber on his belt. Cody was wearing his dress uniform, clearly identifying both of them. They were walking, and Cody was talking, but Obi-Wan couldn’t hear him. He tried to focus, but his words didn’t seem to make any sense.

Cody stopped abruptly, pulling Obi-Wan in by the hand. Obi-Wan looked around. They were so close by the temple. Cody took a step in, his free hand coming up to cup Obi-Wan’s face, his thumb stroking his cheek.

“I love you so much,” he said. He didn’t whisper. His words were loud and clear. Obi-Wan could hear hushed voices around them. But there were no words he could make out, only noise.

“I love you too,” Obi-Wan said. Cody leaned in and their lips met. The kiss started slow, but quickly deepened.

“It’s them,” he could hear someone say before he was grabbed by his upper arms, dragged backwards. The same was happening to Cody. The men clearly were Clones, though Obi-Wan didn’t recognize them. They looked pained. They were just following orders.

Finally, the hologram of Cody became clear again. He’d brought the holo projector down to the floor and was now sitting cross legged before him.

“I miss you,” Obi-Wan said, sighing. He was taken aback when Cody laughed.

“It’s only been two full days.”

“I know,” Obi-Wan said, “But just three months ago we practically lived together. I got used to being with you all the time. And now I’m at the galaxy’s left butt cheek while you’re at its nose.”

Cody grimaced. “Disgusting image you put into my mind, thanks for that.” Obi-Wan chuckled. “But I do miss you too. I’ve wanted to show you something.”

The image of Cody blurred and shifted once more, this time coming to a halt at a window. Even with the blue tint Obi-Wan could see that there was a most gorgeous sunrise going on behind it.

“I wish you could really see the colors,” Cody said.

“Describe them.”

There was silence on Cody’s end for a moment, then he started. “The sun is glowing really red. There are no blue or purple hues like we usually have on Coruscant. Everything is just red, orange and yellow. The sky directly around the sun is so bright it looks almost white, and the clouds seem to be burning.”

“It sounds beautiful. Here the second sun is just rising. This planet has four, it feels like it never gets fully dark. Once the last one is at its highest point it’s only five hours until the first rises again. It makes for really interesting colors, though.”

He turned his own holo projector. “Right now it’s yellow, going into slightly purple,” he described to Cody. “But because one sun rises while another goes down, you get sunrise and sunset at once. Yesterday the sky turned into a really dark purple that made way for the brightest pink. It’s an explosion of colors like I’ve never seen before.”

“That sounds beautiful,” Cody said, wistfulness in his voice.

They were trapped. The ship, supposedly holding refugees that needed evacuating, was a trap. Instead, the vessel was quite literally flooded with droids, even outnumbering the separatist’s own sentient forces. What had started as a rescue mission quickly turned into a game of hide and seek.

Cody stared at the back of Obi-Wan’s head as he was carefully peeking out from behind the containers that had been shielding them from view for the past ten minutes. Though they knew that if they actively started looking, they would be found in even less time.

The ship had taken off a little over two hours ago, taking Obi-Wan, Cody and their entourage of fifteen Clones with them. This was supposed to be a quick, easy mission, and now most of them were dead. The few that weren’t, kept hostage. They would surely be used for negotiations later. Cody’s eyes locked on Obi-Wan, but he didn’t really see, zoned out, trapped in his own mind with his brothers’ screams echoing inside it.

Obi-Wan turned to face Cody and caught his eye. It’s been a while since Cody had seen him look so defeated, so empty of hope. Cody felt like he was choking.

They gathered around the inner circle of the room, and with a wave of his hand towards the windows, Yoda willed the blinds to close, the room growing dark as the morning’s first rays of sunshine were shut out. Master Windu brought up a holo, its blue glow now lighting up the room. It showed a desert planet, the info box beneath it reading ‘Erimea, Outer Rim’. Windu turned to face Cody.

“I assume General Kenobi has forwarded you the information we gave him?” he asked.

“Yes, Sir,” Cody replied, giving one firm nod.

“Good, then we shall begin.” With a motion of his hand, Windu spun the hologram, stopping it at the south side of the planet. With another gesture, he zoomed in to another info box, this time reading ‘Karas-Lith, capital city. Population: 5.473 million. Area: 1.695 km²’. With another zoom, they were shown close images of the city itself.

The tall buildings shot high into the sky, with smaller buildings and huts towards the outskirts of the city. With another flick of his fingers, a photograph appeared. A male of humanoid species. There was really nothing particularly special about him.

“This is going to be your target. He has used many names over the years and he’s never used the same one twice. We have no information on the name he’s currently using, nor on an official given name. He is of the utmost political interest to the Republic. Unfortunately we’d lost sight of him four months ago, until now. A contact reported to us that he’s been seen on Erimea, and we were told that he did not seem to be in a hurry to leave.

Your job, as we agreed upon with said contact, will be to locate him, then our contact and her organization will take over and find out what his next plans are, where he intends to go, what he’s doing, who he’s meeting. If you are able to find out any of those informations before handing the task over, that would be very helpful too. We already told Master Kenobi, the mission is set to take between three weeks to two months, depending on how well it goes.”

Obi-Wan’s eyebrows rose in apparent surprise. “This sounds like a job for a bounty hunter, not Jedi,” he noted.

There was the usual annoyance on Windu’s face that always intimidated Cody.

“There’s no hunt, therefore we won’t need a hunter. The ideal situation would be that there is no personal contact between you two and him, but it would not hinder the mission if there was, as long as it gave us the desired information. You will not expose yourself at any point. You will not confront or deliver him. You will solely gather information, so that we can once again build up our network that will keep track of him, without exposing any of them, either. Which is why our informant will not do the job of finding him herself.”

Master Windu looked at them, making sure they were following before he continued. Obi-Wan nodded.

“Oh, this one’s new,” Obi-Wan said as he pushed Cody’s shirt upwards, exposing his back. There was a still forming scar at the back of his shoulder, the skin not fully healed yet.

“Yes, must’ve been about two weeks ago. It wasn’t bad, just shrapnel,” Cody said.

“Oh, one of those missions I was excluded from?” he asked, feigning to be offended.

Cody huffed. “No, that was the one where you said you were fine and tried to join, but you bled through your tunic and they kicked you off and right back to the medics,” he said, echoing his tone fondly.

They hadn’t seen each other much since then, quick run-ins in professional settings. This was the first time they were alone with each other since the hospital.

Obi-Wan hummed. He traced the outline of where Cody’s armor would sit, smiling sadly to himself at the memory that came into his mind. “Do you remember our conversation after Abrion Bridge?” he started carefully, feeling Cody tense. It was hard to forget that day. “We talked about armor efficiency. This is exactly between your backplate and pauldron.”

Cody huffed. “You’re one to talk."

“Oh, this one’s new,” Obi-Wan said as he pushed Cody’s shirt upwards, exposing his back. There was a still forming scar at the back of his shoulder, the skin not fully healed yet.

When Obi-Wan woke, his head filled with a throbbing pain, he found himself in a bright, large, almost sterile-looking chamber. His robe hung loosely around him, and he shivered when his breath hit his bare chest as he looked down on himself.

He could only remember what happened in shambles. They’d been on a mission, him, Cody and his troops. Anakin was there, too. Rex and Ahsoka. He remembered flashing lights. No, it was blaster fire. The sound of something small, metallic, rolling towards him. A flash, smoke. And now he was here.

The next thing he noticed was that he couldn’t move much. He was being held in a containment field, his arms and shoulders sore from being forced up for too long. How long had he been out? His toes barely touched the ground, fighting for contact to take some weight off his wrists, but the shifting and struggling only made it worse.

They’d left Coruscant a little over two hours ago when they heard a faint ‘meow’ from behind a crate. Cody slowly turned around to see Maman as she was struggling her way up the smooth metal.

“Obi-Wan!” Cody called. He wasn’t moving, just staring at her, unbelieving. Obi-Wan entered and stood beside him, joining him in watching her. She gazed back for a moment, then decided she had better things to do and jumped off the crate, wandering around the room before finding a spot she deemed right for a nap.

Cody lowered his head, and just as Obi-Wan opened his mouth to comment, his comlink beeped, indicating an incoming message.

“Kenobi,” he answered the call.

“General Kenobi,” the Clone on the other end echoed. “It’s Red. Um… What are Maman’s usual hiding spots outside your quarters?”

Obi-Wan chuckled. He’d requested him to look after her while they were away, even giving him access to his quarters in the temple. “What, did you lose my cat?”

“I didn’t lose her, she’s just… very sneaky,” Red said. Obi-Wan could hear his labored breathing through the comm, he must’ve been trying his hardest to stay calm. Then he admitted, “I can’t find her,” frustration and defeat audible in his voice.

“And I’m afraid you won’t,” Obi-Wan replied, not even trying to hide his amusement.

Cody placed his helmet on the ground and was about to unbuckle his cod piece when Obi-Wan stopped him.

“Keep that on,” he ordered, moving in on him quickly. With one hand on his chest, he guided him backwards, pushing slightly when they reached the bed. Cody didn’t have to be told what to do. Down on his back in full armor, safe for his helmet and belt, he raised his brows expectantly.

“And now?” he asked, propped up on his elbows. The question was answered by Obi-Wan coming down between his legs, his hands planted on the mattress beside Cody’s shoulders. He ground down, rolling his hips, pressing himself to Cody’s armor. Grinning, he looked down on Cody.

“How does it feel to get hard behind there?” he teased. Cody groaned when Obi-Wan pressed down harder.

“How I imagine a damn chastity belt to feel,” Cody gasped.
