I've been yapping for ages but never really made a solid intro post. So whatever y'all get one now xoxo

My name's Nijs (he/they) and this is my main blog! I post about whatever subject has hold of my autism at the moment, but some common ones are:

Doctor Who (current)

Theatre, specifically musicals

History, specifically Bokkenrijders

I also write stuff from time to time. You can find my fanfiction on AO3 and my original works (in Dutch) on my website.

Absolutely fucking hysterical that a solid amount of the cast from this show I'm currently fixating on is actively following my meme account about said show and quite a few of them have told me they're a fan and sometimes I'm just spilling my theories and historical facts and analyses and they're all like "hell yeah!!!" and I talked to the guy playing the title role earlier this week after a different show for like half an hour and he told me about some details he loved that I didn't seem to have noticed yet and I am SO happy to inform this guy is absolutely just as knee-deep into the historical references as I am thank GOD

How do I even begin to explain that I'm currently hyperfixating on a musical about the Dutch Revolt and it kind of caused a spiritual awakening for me and I am genuinely kind of convinced some saints which are actually featured in the musical offered me their prayers for my conversion and I told someone at church how this musical caused that awakening and less than a week later a cast member of said musical who follows my meme account for said musical (which is currently followed by most of the cast) offered me a ticket to see the show for free because he enjoys the memes so much and thought I'd appreciate the offer. God has a sense of humour and this is it.

There's a museum hosting a Clue game to "solve the murder of William of Orange" and I am absolutely losing it over the concept of "Who killed him??? Where/When/How did it happen?????" as if this guy's assassination isn't one of the most well-known events in pre-1900's Dutch history and this specific image isn't featured in like every history class about the Dutch Revolt

Tip:

When it comes to stuff like racism, sexism, homophobia, etc, I’ve found it’s usually way better to think to yourself ‘I don’t want to be’ than ‘I’m not’.

I.e. if someone goes ‘that thing you just did is ableist’, instead of going ‘I’m not ableist, I don’t hate disabled people!’ it’s usually a lot better to go ‘I don’t want to be ableist, I should rethink what I’m doing/saying/etc in light of that fact’. Because that shifts your thinking so rather than jumping straight into denial and attempts to defend your character, you’re instead more inclined to look at how your actions could be misrepresenting your intentions. Or whether you’ve overlooked something, been callous, or acted in ignorance.
