How did he end up in the training field with an excitable kid? Well, his classmateās voice rang in his head, sheās really not that much younger than you. Which isnāt wrong, he was the youngest in his class after all, but he was a little surprised to be picked for the job. He guessed they got along well enough. No matter how many times her head floated off into the sky due to something that grabbed her attention he never felt particularly angry and was able to bring her back to Earth gently. And no matter how many questions came from her he was able to keep up and answer, even if some of them were... not something that she should really ask. Itās been months and neither have faltered. He had to admit though, he found it cute. As he watched her long galaxy-like hair flow after her while she ran up to him, he felt his cheeks warm up a little.
āI finished the exercises like you asked!ā She was practically jumping up and down, despite the many laps and grueling bits of training. He felt a little impressed.Ā āHey, since I finished the training and everything... I deserve a reward, donāt ya think?ā Her freckles bunched up on her cheeks as she flashed him a blinding smile that made his heart thump loudly. How could he say no? She did work really hard today.Ā āYouāre right. What are you thinking as a reward then?ā When she said to follow her he didnāt think twice about walking beside her.
He had to admit, this ice-cream is really good. The pastels surrounding them were pretty and so too were the treat-themed decorations. the place was a little crowded, but he didnāt notice too much with the person in front of him. The AC was also really nice with how hard the sun shone down on everyone and hearing Ryoko talk about any little thing that interested her and ask him every question possible about himself was a nice relaxant. The table they were at was small, leaving little distance between them.Ā Her eyes were so pretty. They looked like their own little galaxies.Ā No, no, and no. This was a professional relationship. He knew what he was feeling, he has for awhile, but itās only one-sided.
āIāve never been to this ice-cream parlor before, but Iām really glad we got to go here together, itās really good!ā Her laugh is so pretty too.Ā āIām really glad I get to thank you for training me and everything!ā Then he fell back to reality. She only took him here because it was the nice thing to do for a mentor from a student. Thatās it. His heart felt like a shattered vase. Then the fragments of his heart fell to the bottom of his chest as it only sunk in more and more. He felt happy in that moment for his mask and long hair that swept over his face.Ā āYouāre welcome, itās really no problem.ā At least he could keep his voice together. She gave him another one of her sweet smiles, and he couldnāt help but smile back, even if she couldnāt see it, as she trailed off to another topic. It felt familiar and he felt warm.
Apparently, she likes cotton candy. She held the treat in her hand as she looked up at all the bright and colorful lights around them as they reflected a rainbow across her already colorful hair. Class 1-A decided to take a well-earned break and enjoy themselves at an annual festival that was being held and he couldnāt help but invite her to come along. He didnāt know where the rest of the class went, it almost feels like they purposefully left them alone. Not that he could find it in him to mind. Even when he felt like a dog on a leash with how she tugged him to every little piqued interest of hers, he could only follow her with a pleasant feeling in his heart. He was sure there was a goofy smile plastered on his face and hearts in his eyes. She didnāt notice though, so he couldnāt bare to change it. They came up to one of the vendorās games, a classic one where you try to knock down the pyramid of cups. Her eyes were glued to one specific stuffed animal on the wall. It was a mix of many vibrant colors, mainly red and orange, it looked like an interesting mix between a rabbit and a deer.Ā
He could recite her long re-counts of picking up strange animals and gushing over them. Well...Ā āHow much for a play?ā He could feel her burning stare, and kept his eyes from looking to his right. He put down a price and then he was reaching into his pocket for the right amount, handing it to the vendor before picking up a shiny white ball. He stood right in the middle of the neat pyramid trying not to think about his pumping heart. He felt nervous. He didnāt want to disappoint her, even if it was only a festival game. āDo your best!ā Her encouragement both helped and didnāt. He willed his hand to stop shaking and closed one eye while putting his the ball in front of the other. After what felt like an hour, at least to him, he used all of his strength to hit his target. The sound of all of the small tin cans hitting each other and then the ground filled the air and his shoulders sagged while a small smile his behind his mask. The vendor gestured towards his plethora of stuffed toys and his finger pointed toward the one from earlier.
He now turned to Ryoko, the plush toy in his hand. Her eyes were wide and her smile matched as her hands were balled into fist in front of her, shaking like they couldnāt contain all of her emotions.Ā āThat was so cool! I didnāt know you liked festival gamesāor that you were so good at them,ā she started giggling by the end and it made his chest squeeze almost painfully. Her eyes were closed, and her eyelashes were so long. Her warm-colored skin looked soft and he had the urge to reach out but knew better than to do so. Her laugh sounded like wind chimes outside. He was so head-over-heels. But as her eyes opened to the plush she was staring at earlier in front of her face and she took it while thanking him over and over while practically vibrating in place, he didnāt mind. In fact, he thinks he prefers it this way, even if it might not get to ever be said aloud.

Love notes stuck to at least one of you at any given moment, sweets sitting at one desk or the other every morning, red underneath green eyes and (E/C) eyes every second of the day, only turning a deeper scarlet around each other.
Thatās how it used to be.
Then U.A came around, and suddenly every box on his calendar became full.
And not a single one had your name on it.
You would think since heās analytical and smart he would notice this, but at the same time being a hero has been his dream since he was kid.
It was easy for him to get caught up in U.A.
Soon the love notes only stuck to one green-haired person and slowly ran out, the sweets sat only at one desk and slowly dissipated, and it was getting harder and harder to see scarlet on cherubic cheeks anymore.
He wouldnāt notice this much either, between theĀ āAll Might thisā andĀ āAll Might thatā and training and studying and going out with friends, because now he has friends.

His head starts to feel like itās full of cotton, but his brain pushes past it, and he is going through every memory between you two to realize you both stopped making any after starting U.A.
His eyes then feel like theyāre opened under seawater, and his lungs feel like they have a clamp tight around them, and he canāt breathe he canāt breathe he canāt breathe-
He passes out, and the world still feels dark to him for the oncoming months.
His eyes are like leaky faucets every second of the day and that clamp is still tight around his lungs, but he forces himself to move and do what he has to because to him he deserves it.
He falls in it really deep to be honest.
His heart still feels heavy with guilt, regret, and sadness.
Eventually, Midoriya turns to All Might since he sees him as a father figure and because he doesnāt know what to do anymore. All Might, being All Might, gives him a long motivational speech and Midoriya has a fire lit in him again.
He knows that there has to be more to why you left, that something has been hurting you. He doesnāt know if he can believe otherwise.
He still blames himself, for not noticing what you were going through and even forgetting about you, but he stops letting that affect him.
Instead, heās going to get you back.Ā
Heās ambitious and when he sets his mind to something, he will achieve it.
He still doesnāt think he deserves you and thinks he would hurt you, but he doesnāt want his mistakes to ruin your life. He just wants you to live a normal life.
And heās going to make sure that you do, no matter what it costs.Ā
He is going to spend countless days, hours, months, years, however long it takes searching for you to find you and he is going to do it through every means possible.
He is always keeping an eye on the news for any information that can help him, heās literally begged pro-heroes and teachers alike to give more details, he is even asking villains that are known for spilling to the heroes for your whereabouts.
When he does find you, he will spend however long it takes trying to get you to come back to civilian life or hero life, whatever you want.
Your love no longer taste like cotton candy, but he still loves you.

Though with the warm hand firmly gripping your waist and another smaller one gripping your hand, it was starting to get harder to ignore the heat. The soft cotton rubbing against your arms didnāt help either.
āKatsuki, why donāt we sit down?ā The smacking of black combat boots stopped, along with the softer footsteps of the other two. You looked to him, seeing that his bright auburn eyes were searching the park full of greenery. You couldnāt look away from his strong jaw or strong nose or long, dark, eyelashes or high cheek bones or... Then you had to stumble after him like a dog whose owner just tugged on their leash, which wasnāt far off with his strong grip still on you. Your eyes flicked back to your little brother, fortunately still in your grasp. Your lips opened, then you were sitting. You looked at the sunlight filtering through the tree above you, then traced your hand over the smooth wood panels of the bench you and the blonde were seated on. You shook your head.

The birds came back and so did the leaves. Suddenly the superglue and the steel were gone too. You could guess Katsuki had more than one vain popping out of his forehead. His muscles were tensed and his heels were dug into the grass a couple feet in front of you. You could only see his back, the sun giving him golden rays as an outline, making him look like he came out of a comic book.

You nodded, your brain was full of muddy water, but you had a priority and a job to do. You pushed off of the bench and strained your eyes for any sign of life. Pale blue eyes and a pale face with wet tracks looked up at you. āWe need to go, okay?ā You didnāt hear an answer, just a whimper, and decided to hurry. They were small and shivered in your arms as you ran to find more people. You felt like a robot, repeating the same thing over and over again, blocking everything out and only being able to hear distant explosion and other sounds you donāt want to make out. Katsuki stood in the middle of it all. Well, knelt in the middle of it all His clothes were better than that of the villainās, though they were torn and shredded in some places. You couldnāt see any red on him. Your chest felt a little less tight. His arms were gripping something in front of him, but with his back turned, it was a mystery. Until you saw familiar shows peeking from behind the blonde.Ā
You didnāt know you had moved until you fell to your knees next to him. Then you were in a tight and consuming hug with the two. Never had you been so glad to be warm.
The police station wasnāt very warm, but paperwork for the incident had to be done. You stared at the pile of paperwork in Katsukiās lap to your right.

Your eyes looked at the firetruck red clock to your right; gratefully finding your shift almost over. Only half an hour. Half an hour. Your eyes had a judging stare, secretly wondering if the clock was broken.Ā

Was time supposed to be this slow? Your dejected stare went back to the black and white checkered floor, remaining there as you walked back to the counter with greasy plates stacked and balanced on your hands. You went into the kitchen and deposited them in the sink, turning on the water. The water was cool on your overheated skin as you cleaned them. You mindlessly scrubbed them in circles, getting lost in the pattern; the white glass almost slipping from your fingers as the bell from the entrance dinged. You wipedĀ your hands with a towel and swiftly headed for the front, each step a nuisance.
A ruggedly handsome face greeted you. Not really greeted, they more so grumbled something at you that youāre pretty sure you were supposed to be offended by, but you were too exhausted to be offended. Instead, you put your strength into mustering up the most genuine smile you could.Ā āWelcome to the diner, may I help you?ā He looked to his right, showing you his side profile. He had a strong and smooth nose with a chiseled and defined jaw. His hair defied gravity and almost looked messy, but each piece looked perfectly set in place at the same time, purposeful. You distantly recognized him as the hero Ground Zero. He really was handsome.Ā āA place to sit, maid.āĀ
You raised an eyebrow and he gave you an incriminating look. Your eyes flash down to your uniform, an apron tied around your waist with a button-down dress underneath, and then your shoulders were shaking, bubbly laughter falling from from your lips.Ā āWhatās so funny, dumbass?ā Your laughs dissipated, cheeks hurting as your eyes crinkled in a genuine smile.Ā āNothing, nothing.ā His face scrunched up and his jaw opened for a second.Ā āLet me get you a table.ā You pivoted on your heel and went for the booth with the most gorgeous view. He tracked after you, his shoes stomping harshly against the tiles.
āHere you go sir,ā you stopped in front of a booth with plush red leather seats and a beautiful view of the twinkling city lights. He plopped down into the seat, setting his elbows onto the shiny white table. You tugged a small baby blue menu out of the front pocket of your white apron, setting it down on the table and sliding it towards him.Ā āIāll be back in a bit when youāre ready to order.ā
Five clean dishes later, you walked back to his table. Your eyelids felt like they had weights tied to them, and your feet were pulsating just standing there, but you still attempted to ask in a cordial voice,Ā āAre you ready to order?ā His eyes snapped from the night outside to your form.Ā āYeah, the fucking spicy chicken and fries.ā Most customers here were nice, old folk. That was one of the niceties of your job, especially on nights like these. People like him were few and in between. They made your veins pop out, sure. But, they were also really fun. āWant to try that again?ā It came out parent-like, though only a little. It quickly turned sarcastic with a playful edge to it. āMaybe try saying the magic word next time?ā
His sharp eyebrows drew together, and his jaw clenched, nose flaring like a bull thatās seen a red flag.
āThe fuck did you just say?ā
āOnly to be nicer,ā you shifted your weight to your right hip.Ā āOr is that too hard?ā His eyes burned into your figure. His lip drew up into a snarl. āI donāt have to do shit.ā You looked him over. He had a body concaved into itself , shoulders closer to his ears than a second ago, and lips in a weirdly attractive snarl. You met his eyes. They reflected smoldering ashes of a fire. āYouāre a good hero, but you have a shitty attitude. The public doesnāt know you, except for your screaming and snarling T.V interviews or horrendous interactions with civilians. Itās easy to forget about the lives you save like that.ā You scanned him again, he was the same, except more still. He barely moved, his chest neither going up nor down. āBe careful.ā The polite smile from earlier returned to your face.Ā āYour orderās cominā right up.ā
As you turned on your heel, you questioned why you said that. Maybe becauseĀ you were fed up with his attitude, or maybe because youāre tired and by then your filter disappears. Maybe it was because you thought he really needed to hear that. Perhaps you were just at the end of your rope. You didnāt care, you didnāt misspeak and lies didnāt fall from your lips. You just wanted to clock out and get these damn shoes off. You scurried into the kitchen and hurriedly told the cook his order.
You took the steaming plate from the counter, grabbing it around the edges and walking out to the tables. You could practically feel the bags under your eyes and each of your limbs felt like they were underwater. If you had to imagine what all those T.V characters felt like when walking through quicksand this would be it. Each step you took sent a spike of pain up your legs, but at least you were being paid for a workout. Your eyes burned. They shut for one second, and then your left knee went weak. It felt like you were free falling, nothing connecting you to the Earth. You could feel every second as if it was a minute.
Tik. Tok.
What?
No smashing of plates and no flash of pain appeared. You realized your eyes were still squeezed shut, tightly. Slowly, you blinked.Ā
Red. Bright red. Pale skin. Blonde hair. Annoyed look.
A warm arm squeezed your waist and tugged you back up right. He still looked peeved, but his grip was gentle as he brought you back to your feet and firm as he kept it put.Ā āBe careful,ā he smirked, eyes clashing with yours.Ā āDumbass.ā You looked to your left and saw he squarely caught and balanced the nearly damaged plate, food still appetizingly in place.Ā āNice catch there.ā You looked back down at the strong arm around your waist.Ā āOn both ends.ā You then looked into his fiery eyes, a colorful mix of various reds.Ā āAnd I will be.ā
He cracked a devilish smile and set the plate down on the table next to him. The clink was loud, as by now the diner was deserted, too close to closing for most people. He used his now free arm to cunningly and sharply tug you closer to him by your waist.Ā āSince youāre such a dumbass, why donāt I stick with you to make sure youāre careful?ā You chuckled and wrapped your fingers around his firm biceps.Ā āBe my guest.ā

He realizes he needs to man the fuck up and stop acting like the ghost of himself, because that shit shouldnāt exist anymore.
He learns his inability to breathe isnāt that he canāt, itās that you stole it; suddenly it doesnāt hurt so much anymore to keep the kid in him in the past.
When you rub your nose against his, he doesnāt fall out of your grasp, instead he falls further into it with quiet grumbles.
The homemade bento boxes handed to him are eaten with his chest puffed out and red cheeks, āidiotsā and ājackassesā falling left and right for his friends, but he still stuffs his mouth angrily.
A colorful and made-from-heart bracelet jingles every time he moves; the same sound following you around too.
Your loud and enthusiastic shouts for him are met with him pushing himself harder with a grin and a heart-melting and bone-crushing hug.

You two were fighting a villain duo together, one that had been terrorizing the citizens of the city for awhile.
He thought you two had it handled, and so did you.
As he handled one, you handled the other. In the middle of throwing an explosion he heard the mix of you and the other villain screaming.
He landed his finishing explosion and swung around, blasting his way to where he heard you two.
He saw the scene of the villain defeated at the expense of you.
His body stopped, copying his mind.
It felt like someone poured ice cold water on him, time freezing as his heart ceased and his pupils dilated, like a camera zooming in on an image, except this time it was on a nightmare.
His pupils blew out, and suddenly his heart was like horsesā hooves galloping against his rib cage.
Suddenly, the pause button was off.
He knew the fucking ambulance would take too long to get here and he was damn well faster, so he found his feet hitting against the dark asphalt of the street and yelling gruffly to āGet the hell out of my way!ā louder than even his well-trained vocal cords were used to.
By the time he was pulling the handle to the hospital doors open, he had to check if the sun was still out because that felt way too fucking long.
He strained his vocals again, yelling for any of the staff to help.
As people rushed over and took them from him, his grip tightened and his mouth opened, but then he let go, praying these fucks werenāt incompetent.
He didnāt know if his tight chest and jack rabbit heart was from his travel or from the situation, but he fucking hated it. He followed them, his combat boots loud against the tile, quickly reaching a certain set of doors the hospital staff were keen in keeping him out of but he was even more insistent on getting past. So, he did.
You were in a coma.
The following days were in slow motion, everything taking too long to happen.
The doctors need to wake you up. You need to wake up. You need to get out of this hospital. You need to go back to normal. Everything needs to go back to fucking normal.Ā
His stomach growled as he sat in this fucking hard and ugly-ass chair. He felt gross and he knew his hair was greasy, but who gave a fuck. He needed to give your dumb ass a lecture as soon as you got up so he was fucking staying.
As he looked at your face, he felt his heart twist like a spring, coiling tighter and tighter. He knew why. He should have stopped this. HeĀ shouldĀ have stopped this. Fuck how weak he was.
Time never stopped being slow. He just learned to accept it at some point.
The hospital became his second home and your room became his room too.
He never accepts anything less than the best for himself, thatās why he chose you in the first place. Heāll be damned if he accepts anything less than the best. So, his days are lonely.
Only a quiet hospital room fills the gaps.
Heās at his desk, when he feelās the small vibrations of his phone in his front pocket. He grabs it with a brutal grip, jaw taught and prepared to fuck up whoever just interrupted him in the middle of work.
