I suppose the saddest thing about the Yuri on Ice fandom at the moment is that it will slowly die, the way fandoms usually do after an anime ends. This is all the more true for original anime; anime based on manga still have that going for them and the fanbase sticks to that but YOI unfortunately is an original work and has nothing like that.
Soon enough the yuri on ice tag will be all but empty, full of only old art and relatable text posts, but not much else. No more meta, no more analysis, less fanfics, all of that gone without any new episodes to spur the community on, without any new material to work with.
I suppose this is natural and inevitable - everything comes to an end, and once it does, people simply leave. I can’t blame anyone for it either, it’s understandable that once new content stops flowing in, there’s no real reason to stick around.
But yeah, the thought makes me sad. That’s partly related to my sadness over the fact that the anime is over, but it’s also just the fact that all these great people who wrote/created things for YOI will slowly fade from my life too.
It’s been amazing being in one fandom with so many skilled, intelligent and simply fun people, all of us focused only on one thing for these past 12 weeks. It really was great. I will miss it.
re-found this post in the dark year of 2026 and man it always happens doesn't it :(
