Regarding name changes, it really depends on the state, but in some states it can be very expensive--I live in California, and it's upwards of $400 here, from every source I've seen. (I don't know how much she claimed it costs, though, or what state she lives in.) That said, you're absolutely right about everything else, and you're doing good work here--keep it up!

As for name changes, prices do wildly vary. Where I live, it still isn’t cheap, but it’s a good bit cheaper. Still, in most states, simply using a different name is enough, although paperwork and fees are necessary for things like banks to acknowledge the change.
